The porters are really nice & helpful. Don't stay here unless you like uncomfortable beds, rude receptionists and lack of information. We were not told about breakfast facilities if required, wake up call, how to check out or the bar opening times, which are not as we were eventually told. Beware they don't just take a deposit for any extras they take an extra 50quid per night, which you will discover afterwards this is not information they volunteer but as the manager stated when we complained, they don't tell the guests everything they need to know!!

Some members of staff were rude, unhelpful and not really interested in their jobs.Booking.com clients beware, the reception staff will ask Booking.com guests to settle the account for accomodation on arrival,I have stayed at many hotels reserved through the Booking.com website and this was a first.I could not believe this and the manner this was conveyed to me by the lady at reception at the time.I did alert the hotel general manager to my complaints on departure and he was polite, courteous and did listen to the issues I raised.

Polite staff, great location, room was smart and clean Only issue was no table available at breakfast, we had to sit at the bar, but not their fault we all wanted to eat at the same time!

Very suitable for the purpose of our visit to London. We were only two or three streets away from our appointment destination. All members of staff were courteous and helpful. We will use the hotel again if we need to return to London at another time and will recommend the hotel to our friends in the uk and abroad. The decor of the hotel was much appreciated. The business mans club atmosphere was exactly as we expected. The location was perfect as we were attending a function at the Wallace Collection during the evening of check in. Decoration was functional and pleasing to the eye and the serving staff in all capacities were pleasant and helpful. We only ate Breakfast but it was well prepared and presented and did not have one of those abominal buffets that we are told is for the benefit of the customer, so well done for that. The room was very small for two and the bathroom was tired, we could not get the television to work in spite of complaining (not a big issue) The breakfast Maitre D was not the most accommadating individual ( a dutchman I believe. His idea of service was to look at you on entering the restaurant and very reluctant to come forward and show one to a table. Thereafter as we were seated oposite the kitchen entrance we were party to numerous verabl attacks on the staff as to there performance and how they should all be replaced!!!! in my opinion the staff new there roles well and executed them professionaly. To lambast staff in front of guests lack professionalisim and somewhat remaniescent of Faulty Towers

Location is very good. Staff were fine and friendly. Good value (for London). Very tired in places. Rooms are quite old fashioned. My room, 301, had a view of a brick wall.

Unique, timeless comfort, old fashioned values, escape back in time but to a very comfortable place. I have consistently praised this hotel. It's not for people looking for cutting edge design or the anonimity of some of the chain hotels but is ideal for people looking for charm, individualism and something a bit more personal. I have stayed several times before. This time I booked via bookings.com because the rate that was being offered was so much better than the hotel direct. However, this time the room was on the third floor and was smaller than usual, but still comfortable, had no view and was quite noisy (hotel extractor fan, people bottling up etc.). If I had paid full price I would not have been happy! Being the weekend the hotel was half empty and it's a pity they still had to use rooms that are at the bottom end of their offer. I hope these rooms aren't reserved for those booking via web agents. Only real complaint is the addition of 15% service charge on drinks. Bit naughty when there is no service I.nvolved as such. Still a nice hotel though.

Lovely country house feel right in the heart of London, delightful cosy little bar with log fire and we had a pleasant comfortable bedroom. Very poor food, the soup tasted of flour and water, the beef sandwich was very poorly presented and piled full of horseradish on both sides of the beef. The breakfast porridge was very thin, the fruit salad was just cubed apple and melon without any exotic fruits and the toast was cheap sliced bread and soggy.

It is very respectable, with a good , quiet clientele, mainly mature people, seemingly mostly English who have come from the country, comfortable middle class,And well dressed Europeans. You rarely see noisy kids there. The decoration is tasteful, the hotel has a lovely, old world atmosphere. And is reminiscent of a country house hotel. The dining room is panelled. With 200 year old portraits. The toilets are clean. The location is amazing, close to the shops of Oxford street, behind a major museum. A haven in busy London. We always end up staying there, because its value for money. We find its a good place to have friends come visit for tea. The staff are cold and distant, except the young porters who are wonderful. I have never seen anyone else smile. The staff in the dining room, are not helpful. We had prepaid for breakfast, were presented with an a la carte menu, but were not told what food and drink was included, in the price. So we had eggs, toast, and were afraid to ask for a second cup of coffee .Also, on two occasions, I have had to ask to change rooms. I paid for a superior room, asked for a quiet one, and was given a tiny dark room at the back. Because we had stayed there before, we knew they had better rooms, so we were given a big room on the 3rd floor. On the side street. We always get rooms on the 3rd floor, regardless of the price. They have low ceilings. Each room of this hotel is different, so its pot luck where you end up .They are , however, pretty.

The hotel is very quaint and old style with a lot of wood paneling and antique furniture. I like the small private dining as well as the main restaurant. The bar was very nice as well. The room we were put in was old and shabby. No air on and we could not turn of the heating. The bathroom was old and falling apart. If they are refurbishing then why do they put you in the old rooms and not the new ones?????????? This was our first visit to this hotel and unfortunately our last. Shame as the rest of the hotel has such character and charm

The atmosphere - slightly 'faded' in the best possible sense. Very welcoming 'feel' about the building; room comfortable; bathroom up to the minute. Breakfast excellent, if rather costly. The fact that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom.

Good but quiet situation, short walk to shops & small international restaurants. Friendly staff. Taxis in front of hotel and also plenty of public transport nearby. A small suggestion: a tv channel in another language as not everyone can understand English too well. Also a magnifying mirror in bathroom would be useful for the short-sighted!!
