I booked the Durrant on the view of the internet advert. I made a mistake on the booking date and called Booking.com customer services, a very professional man named Ray assisted me with my booking and commented on the hotel as looking very nice. On arrival at the Durrant Hotel the first impressions is that the Hotel is "very tired" and in need of modernisation. However it appeared to have a clientele of coach trips for elderly people. We checked in and was disappointed as the hotel corridor's and bedrooms 2 of which were located on 2 different floors, smelt of mould and bad cabbage !! This was a very unpleasant stay for our group of four. We had arrived after 6pm and attempted to find alternative accommodation, without success we returned to the Hotel Durrant to find the reception closed !! We ordered 2 Calypso coffees , 1 beer and 1 Brandy & coke. We could not drink any as the coffee's had not been made properly and were like tar! The beer and coke was flat, we assumed the pumps need cleaning. !! !! We left all 4 drinks. The beds had No mattress protectors, we sleep with the window wide open because of the smell of mouldy carpets We could not wait to get up and check out ! The cost was £80 per twin room including breakfast. There is No Way we would eat in the hotel. A very expensive bad experience. The Durrant Hotel should not be rated a 4 star. We late checked into a fauloud 3 star Devon Hotel which was spotlessly clean for £ 69 I would recommend the hotel !! Very disappointed regarding our stay at the Durrant Hotel Please see above as. I would like to make a complaint regarding our stay at The Durrant Hotel I would not recommend this hotel as a 4 star Hotel. We wasted £160.00

It looked good on-line but some reviews were critical so I was sceptical. But is was excellent. We had a dog and I ensured the hotel were aware of this before booking; no problems encountered. Great value, cheaper than Travelodge and far superior. Staff helpful and alert; can't praise enough. Walked to Appledore from Hotel along estuary; can also walk into Bideford. Good location all round.

The staff were very helpful and attentive . The reception, bar and dining room were well appointed , tastefully furnished and attractive. The only meals I sampled were the breakfasts which were very good in quality and quantity with a varied menu. The hotel's enforcement of the law/policy on smoking is strict. The fire alarm sounded at 5 A.M. one morning and I was pleased to discover that the guest, who had been smoking in his room, was fined and asked to leave immediately. Well done! Whilst the public rooms appear to have been re-furbished, my bedroom and, I understand, others were rather tired and in need of renovation. My room was on the ground floor and initially smelled damp until aired by opening door and window for a while. The bath was chipped and there was no fridge. The outside of the hotel is in need of decoration with discoloured paintwork and unattractive planters.

The Bedroom had been refurbished and was a very good size, with nice modern fixtures and fittings. Full English breakfast was very nice and cooked to a high standard. The hotel in general was rather dated in appearance plus some times it was difficult to communicate with some of the staff as English was not their first language !

We booked the durrant hotel based on the pictures and words used to describe the hotel on its website. I was dissapointed on lots of different points, the rooms especially our friends was in need of some repair and tlc, the restaurant was very dark at all times and very dated generally through out. The hotel receptionist on the couple of occassions we needed some assistance I felt was not very friendly. The hotel we felt was not good value for money.

Our room was excellent. We had lunch and dinner in the bar. The food was well cooked and plentiful. The staff were uniformly helpful. Excellent tv reception in our room.. It was clear that the hotel caters for the coach trade. The notices around the hotel, starting with the entrance door, were nearly all abrupt. E.G.'use other door.' Hardly any of them said 'please'. The notes about the hotel in the rooms also tended to be of a 'must' and 'must not' tone and referred to penalties for this and that. It made it sound like a corrective establishment.

The hotel is a good example of an older traditional English semi rural 4 star, and thats not at all a criticism. It does everything very well, and we very much enjoyed our long weekend there. The food was excellent as were the rooms. The staff were always courteous and helpful and efficient. We will stay there again on any visit to the area.

They provided a good breakfast The hotel classed itself as dog friendley, it isn'T. You can have your dog in your room for a small charge but you can't take it anywhere else in the hotel. We had to eat our breakfast on our own or pay a £5 room service and take all other meals away from the hotel, we couldn't even have a drink there as you couldn't sit with your dog in the bar or even the lobby area. Not suitable at all for dog lovers>

Proximity to area. Did not like the decour and poor functionality i.e. lift not working properly. Pool table on landing floor 2. Irrelevent piped music in corridors. Poor welcome from reception staff and poor knowledge of basics like transport links. The room maintenance (bathroom) was poor and shoddy looking in places. Not sure what this hotel is trying to be but needs to keep a theme running throughout it felt like a corner shop and supplied by only fools and horses geezers with dispensing machines etc in the foyer.

Room was spacious & clean. Bathroom was modern. Food was good and well priced. The hotel had an unpleasant smell throughout and the building was extremely tired. The handles etc on the doors had been replaced & everything looked a mess. The fire alarm went off at 4am & apparently this was the 2nd time in 2 weeks.

Convenient for wedding we were going to, beach and Bideford. Staff kind and tried hard. Noisy especially early in the morning. Rooms ok but smell of stale old smoke where previously smoking rooms and lots of cobwebs. Breakfast was terrible for an apparently 3 * hotel,
