It looked good on-line but some reviews were critical so I was sceptical. But is was excellent. We had a dog and I ensured the hotel were aware of this before booking; no problems encountered. Great value, cheaper than Travelodge and far superior. Staff helpful and alert; can't praise enough. Walked to Appledore from Hotel along estuary; can also walk into Bideford. Good location all round.

I booked the Durrant on the view of the internet advert. I made a mistake on the booking date and called Booking.com customer services, a very professional man named Ray assisted me with my booking and commented on the hotel as looking very nice. On arrival at the Durrant Hotel the first impressions is that the Hotel is "very tired" and in need of modernisation. However it appeared to have a clientele of coach trips for elderly people. We checked in and was disappointed as the hotel corridor's and bedrooms 2 of which were located on 2 different floors, smelt of mould and bad cabbage !! This was a very unpleasant stay for our group of four. We had arrived after 6pm and attempted to find alternative accommodation, without success we returned to the Hotel Durrant to find the reception closed !! We ordered 2 Calypso coffees , 1 beer and 1 Brandy & coke. We could not drink any as the coffee's had not been made properly and were like tar! The beer and coke was flat, we assumed the pumps need cleaning. !! !! We left all 4 drinks. The beds had No mattress protectors, we sleep with the window wide open because of the smell of mouldy carpets We could not wait to get up and check out ! The cost was £80 per twin room including breakfast. There is No Way we would eat in the hotel. A very expensive bad experience. The Durrant Hotel should not be rated a 4 star. We late checked into a fauloud 3 star Devon Hotel which was spotlessly clean for £ 69 I would recommend the hotel !! Very disappointed regarding our stay at the Durrant Hotel Please see above as. I would like to make a complaint regarding our stay at The Durrant Hotel I would not recommend this hotel as a 4 star Hotel. We wasted £160.00

Have stayed at this hotel before, but standards have definitely slipped. Room not as clean as before. Our room had previous tenants sequins on floor and hair on table. elderly mother-in-law had to make tea on floor.

Convenient for our purpose. Bar food good. Reception greeting was not encouraging. Receptionist could not smile and make us feel welcome. Amateurish restaurant service with serious traing for manager and staff required as it lets down the basic quality of the hotel

Staff are the best aspect of this hotel as they are friendly, quick, and direct. I liked the location and enjoyed a very comfortable bed. The Breakfast buffet range was a little lacking and left me as a person with a wheat allergy being given little choice.

I have vast experience of staying in many hotels for over 30 years (ranging from 2 star to 5 star) and this is without doubt the worst hotel I have stayed in! To summarise: - Our hotel room smelled and our 2nd floor landing smelled of the food being cooked in the kitchens - One of the main reasons I booked this hotel was for the gym / spa / billiards advertised. The gym was very poor. Most of the cardio/running machines were broken, and the few that did work were very old/wobbly. The 2 weight machines didnt have seats on whish is very dangerous! I told the receptionist and she said she had never even been up to the Gym! The Billiards is actually a pool table located on the 2nd floor landing very close to our hotel room - thank god no one used it as it would have disturbed us and the other people in their hotel rooms close to this table! We didn't even want to venture in to the Spa after this experience! - The full english breakfast was poor and must have been microwaved as every item was red hot - not in a cooked way - it was definitely heated up! - The outside of the hotel is very run down and desperately in need of painting. The pool / garden was in a very poor / messy state too - I understanding it is winter, but we were all overlooking the pool / garden and there were sun beds scattered all messy over the place and the pool was filthy (the pool water was green, and the water feature above had black water!) - The waiter in the bar was miserable. - Shower continuously turning from hot and cold - The web site is very misleading - the reception area / dining room / bar looks great on the web - but the whole area is covered in billboards/posters/signs and nothing like the real thing A shocking experience and in my opinion the hotel should be downgraded to 1 or 2 star!

Nothing. Wi-fi was useless, so could not do any work in my bedroom, although it siad on there website it was through out the hotel. Range of food in resturant was poor, so had to take a taxi into town. Its location is useless. One of the worst hotels ive stayed in for years . def not going back, although I will have business in the area next year.

Everything we needed was in room. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast very well cooked and the staff very helpful. Excellent views Very convenient for Bideford and beaches. The lift was so slow. It was quicker to walk up the stairs. No light over the pool table.

The Bedroom had been refurbished and was a very good size, with nice modern fixtures and fittings. Full English breakfast was very nice and cooked to a high standard. The hotel in general was rather dated in appearance plus some times it was difficult to communicate with some of the staff as English was not their first language !

Chose as pet freindly and wifi available, upon arrival given a pet adivce form which stated that pets allowed in the bedroom and the reception area, then told not permitted in the reception area as food could be eaten? Wifi was not available despite reporting this to the reception staff.

The room was nothing like we expected. They clearly only show pictures of their best rooms. When we booked it said there would be a hot tub in our room. There was not. Also we booked a double room but got a pokey and overcrowded family room. (Double bed and single bed). It looed modern in the photos but the reality was a hotel used mainly for the elderly on coach trips. Also the room and hotel in general was far too hot and stuffy. Although we opened the window the room was too hot and uncomfortable. The only plus were the staff who were helpful and polite.

We booked the durrant hotel based on the pictures and words used to describe the hotel on its website. I was dissapointed on lots of different points, the rooms especially our friends was in need of some repair and tlc, the restaurant was very dark at all times and very dated generally through out. The hotel receptionist on the couple of occassions we needed some assistance I felt was not very friendly. The hotel we felt was not good value for money.

Welcoming staff. However, bathroom awful - shower did not work - no hot water getting through from the tap set up, mould around the bath and in much of the tile grouting. Other issues in bedroom. No comment from staff when given the feedback about the shower not working and other issues. Overall poor.

The hotel is a good example of an older traditional English semi rural 4 star, and thats not at all a criticism. It does everything very well, and we very much enjoyed our long weekend there. The food was excellent as were the rooms. The staff were always courteous and helpful and efficient. We will stay there again on any visit to the area.

Nice light room---could see to read! Barman was very helpful No handles for bath/shower----safety considerations The towel rail and hooks for any clothes were directly above the toilet, making it impossible to hang anything up
