nothing to like about this hostel not worth your money
this is not hostel its prison
That I got to stay in my 4 bunk female dorm room alone most of the time then with an awesome roomie. Watching sunrise from my room window was pretty awesome and I guess i got pretty much what I paid for.
Service(young staff are lovely but they are mostly busy at the pub),cleanliness, the fact that you have to go through the pub to get to your room.
staying for six weeks while working in the area was a real pleasure
just booked in for another 3 nights then i go working elsewere thanks to jason and michelle ,top couple, i can recommend the hostel to you all out there,
i have been staying here for six weeks and everyone has been nothing but friendly
value for money, friendly staff and locals in the bar, cheap drinks and all the football you want to watch
The Hostel Rooms where spacious and clean , the pub at the hostel downstairs has a great contemporary vibe to it!
Sometimes it feels the focus of the staff is so much on the pub that they neglect the hostel occupants also there was no house keeping on a daily basis to ensure rooms remain clean
The room and shower were clean, no complaint about that.
The reception is "only" available at 2 o'clock basically, if you get any problem when the bar down stair is not open, no body can help you. I was waiting one hour at the front door when I arrived at 11, and when the bar opened at 12, they refused to help their guests. They run the hostel without any computer system, so they just give room randomly, doesn't matter if you book or not. No common room or public area, shower in the room but not in the bathroom, it would be a big trouble for women if they stay in mixed room. No body ever control the hostel after you get in, no key, only pin at the bedroom doors. Also, it takes 15 minutes to walk to tube, and 40 minutes more to get to the city center.
Room was warm; staff was ok;
Seriously, this was the worst hostel, facilities-wise, I have *ever* stayed in. Cleanness: -10; it looks like it was cleaned last before my birth (i'm over 25, fyi): stains on carpets, on walls, on toilets, on sinks, on the floor, so basically everywhere. Facilities: toilets were definitely placed there during the WW2 and never renovated since: dirty, noisy, inconvenient and the bathrooms were cold! There was no toilet paper for days and only 1 day prior to my departure a very pleasant cleaning lady brought it. She was exceptionally pleasant to talk to, btw. Shower: right in the room, can you imagine that? And it was a "power-shower" which worked very sporadically either giving ice-cold or boiling-hot water. Only once have I managed to have a decent shower. Windows covered with stains, beds were ok-ish but the linen was again kinda my age. The kitchen was something I would never enter even if I am paid for it. I was surprised not to see elephants there, let alone cockroaches. The window in one of the toilets was broken and those pieces of broken glass remained on the floor until the day of my departure (I spent 4 nights there). And the worst thing: they never gave us keys. So... imagine it: the pub has one entrance, you go through, then they open another door for you and that's it. In order to get out, you use another door which leads you right to the street and if you want to go to the pub, then you have to go round and enter the pub's entrance. And the pub starts working at 12:00 and there is no-one in the morning. So if you want to leave at 7 and return at 10, you kinda have no choice: should wait till 12:00 and the staff that might let you in. Might, because some of them were unaware of where their keys were. Location: around 10-15 min walk from the tube and you pass the cemetery on your way... Never again will I stay here.
The heating was ok.
You cannot get into the hostel when the pub downstairs is closed as you do not get a key to the door to the street (only access btw 1pm and 1am) No staff in the hostel, only when you check in. No toiletpaper No cleaning at all, the kitchen is discusting. Not cutlery, cups, plates etc. in the kitchen. Only 4 lockers for 4 rooms with 16 beds in total. Windows broken at one toilet (they first noticed after 3 days) – No light at the other toilet. Door to fire escape locked – only one exit. The pictures are misleading – proberbly taken the day before opening. Please check earlier reviews, a lot is for the pub downstairs and not for the hostel.
Michelle and Tashie Ried we're welcoming me with their warmth welcome, smiles and assistance in many ways, besides, their bubbly characters made me feel like home and definitely I will be back if I've ever returned and will introduce all my friends from Malaysia about this cool and historical building which I love so much. Hope the room fare could be cheaper!!?? Was it too much? Lol
Nothing at all!
cheap clean and good pub with friendly locals and all the football on sky
it was all fine just remember what you are paying
The pub below has wonderful friendly staff, a good customer base and is very cheap, I had a fantastic night in there on the Friday and intend to go back again soon
It is a shame that there is no tv upstairs in the hostel but you can watch all the sports you want in the pub dowmstairs
Maybe it is not very far away from the underground, about 10 minutes' walk
I don't think it is a properly managed hostel. Hosteling does not seem to be their concern b/c everything does not seem to be taken care of. No light in washroom, no curtain on the window...
the position was just about right for what i needed at the time and close to local amenities
most of it, floor really noisy, no hot water in some room, kitchen and rooms not clean although they pretended to be cleaning once a week, some room didn't have curtains, smelly bed sheets, no emergency exit, one of the toilet with no light, the price for less than a week was the same of getting a private double room for a whole week. i really hope not all the Irish are like the owner. i could carry on but let's stop here. overall judgement i wouldn't suggest this place not even to an enemy (or maybe yes but just someone that i really hate) vote: -5/10 (minus 5 on 10)
Good price. Good Wifi. The two girls at the bar were really nice and helpful.
Shower being inside the room is a bit weird, I'm glad I didn't book a mixed room. No common room so all eating and relaxing done outside or in bedroom.
helpful staff and budget friendly
A bit noisy in the evening.
The facilities were wonderful.
I stayed in this hostel for a few months during the week. The reason for this was its close location to temporary work. It was generally quite quiet for a hostel and in the main, I got a reasonable night's sleep. It is more noisy at weekends.
Whilst cheap for London the place is very run down compared to competition elsewhere in outer London and really needs a facelift, in terms of cleanliness and security (keys return is a problem as our room locks. I think that sorting this out would be of benefit to the Hostel as it would mean more people stay for longer and they could make more profit, and charge more per night. There is no common room or place to eat food, although the pub is welcoming. It really needs to be cleaned more often - bins and toilets in particular. A dedicated receptionist is also needed as at times you may have to wait a long time to gain access to the get your room. Please note that if you arrive late on a weekday (e.g. after 11pm) you cannot access the hostel when the pub is closed as there is no reception. Fire exits and safety need to be improved. Security around keys and locks needs to be improved and keys are not always available. Still, it was a convenient base for me in a part of London where there a few other budget accommodation options available.
The manager of the hostel, the dirt everywhere, no light in the toilet, broken shower.
