Score from 77 reviews Excellent
lovely setting, comfortable bed, attractive room.
Would not have booked had we known there were 2 wedding receptions going on - inevitably lots of noisy high spirits in the bar! Service in restaurant slow.
Good hotel in lovely grounds, good facilities and food in restaurant was excellent. The staff were really helpful and friendly.
We were staying here to meet up with friends and their young son. Unfortunately there was a wedding on which meant lot's of rowdy guests coming to bed at 3am & 4am with no consideration for other guests in the hotel. This obviously wasn't the hotel's fault but something to bear in mind if you want a peaceful stay on a weekend.
We did not use any facilities because we were at a family celebration
The breakfast! No problems with the staff. The food was not very hot and the plates that you had to use were COLD so our breakfast was not agood experience. On reflection this had not improved since our last visit
Breakfast Reception manager Zoe when complained she sorted the room service bill!
Room service...cold soup, horrid fish, burnt burger. Tv! so old and bad reception and 5 channels No internet free for 4 star thats bad
Facilities, Room Rates
general efficiency and welcoming staff.
only 1 comfortable chair in bedroom. Difficult to put lace curtain back to look at the trees low chairs in dining room
The room was clean and relatively comfortable
The reception desk was quite a walk from the hotel rooms I thought that the rooms were in Eastwood Hall and not a modern annex which was unexpected We had very noisy guests which meant that neither my husband nor I got a full nights sleep
Set in extensive grounds, lovely views, no road or town noise. Breakfast really good, including coffee.
One of our nights clashed with a wedding and college reunion so there was much noise in the corridor outside our room around 1am.
Rooms were a good size Great for conferences Price was reasonable for stay Location is great Well maintained grounds Plenty of car parking space Easy to reach from main transport links
Room seemed tired with a big crack along the top of the shower Basically a travelodge bolted onto a lovely old house Food in restaurant was claiming to be something more Than it was Uninspired menu with bland tastes Child portion was ridiculous, three sausages, half a plate of unseasoned mash and gravy for a five year old Service was terribly slow took 25 minutes to clear our dinner plates away. Having to keep my five year old entertained whilst she waited 35 minutes for her 'cake' which turned out to be two profiteroles covered in chocolate sauce. Wifi is free as long as you can work in one hour bursts and then wait two hours to log back on again
location with lovely grounds easy to find lovely place for a wedding really good buffet style breakfast lots of choice for every taste faultless
bar prices very expensive can be a little confusing in finding out where to go we travelled with elderly frail parents it was a long walk to the rooms from the disabled parking bay
Location was good, handy for major roads and on secluded private land. Use of gym and pool very easy and straightforward. Staff very friendly and helpful.
The porridge - made with water and very few oats - absolutely disgusting and very disappointing after a workout in the gym. A long walk to the room from the reception. Breakfast finished rather early - we were on our holidays - don't want to finish breakfast by 9!!!
Comfortable bed, quiet, with no road noise. Parking near to room in a courtyard. Lovely landscape grass and trees.
Barrier entrance and exit to hotel. High noise levels from other guests. Swimming pool always full of people when we wanted to use it. No atmosphere. New accommodation block quite basic in décor and facilities. e.g. one bedside lamp for a double bed. Room grubby, needed a thorough clean. Room far away from reception, bar and hotel facilities, even though advised of walking with a stick because of disability, when booking.
Your picture on booking.com but was not a part of the hotel we even went into very misleading Location
Very pricey restaurant and not even very good 2 glasses of wine £18. !!!!
Convenient, clean, value for money
'Commercial', paper not delivered, breakfast chaotic - no large plates, milk, sugar. Unable to contact hotel via phone and email not answered
I asked for a quiet room and was given one right at the back of the hotel which was ideal. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Room wasn't all that clean, quite dusty and needed hoovering. This might have been because they'd accommodated my request to be away from the action, and it might be a room not used for a while. Restaurant was fine but not a huge choice. No a/c in room which might have been a problem on a hotter night. Wifi wasn't free.
We were a bit apprehensive about booking this hotel due to all the negative reviews about the noise from weddings and unhelpful staff. But I am glad we went ahead and booked it as it was a last minute plan and we were getting a very good price and we had a very pleasant stay. The check in was really smooth and the staff extremely helpful when we requested for our room to be changed to first floor. There were weddings on two out of the three nights we stayed there but except for some distant sound of music when the windows were open, you couldn't really hear much (and our room was right behind the wedding hall). There is a superstore is right next to the hotel which was quite helpful. We would definitely go back to this place if we plan another holiday to peak district.
The beds were a little uncomfortable
cows in field nearby, Zumba instructor was good, very comfy sofas in bar area, excellent coffee serving pots
room smelt of cigarettes, surley staff member at breakfast reception
Breakfast was excellent, staff very pleasant, good setting for where we were visiting.
Corridors are a bit of a maze and a reasonable walk away from reception. Annoying that free wifi is limited to an hour and then you have to wait for 3 hours to log on again.
no air conditioning or fan - room very stuffy bed uncomfortable room looks tired premier inn - better maintained and much fresher and generally have air con or at least a fan. room service waited for an hour for a sandwich charged at £6.00 - cheap sandwich / no imagination - very unsatisfactory
I liked the leisure facilities, very good club, the friendly staff and the dining room. Also the bedrooms were quiet.
I didn't like the size of the bedrooms being small for 2 adults, and a very old fashioned television which was not a very good picture. The breakfast could go on until at least 9.30, far too early finishing at 9.am.
The Prices of the food and drink
Location was good
Twin room supplied when we had booked a double. Receptionist shrugged her shoulders and said there wasn't anything she could do. Had requested extra bed for our young son, not in room when we arrived. Waited about an hour for it to arrive. Swimming pool was roped off so only 1/3rd available to guests due to children's swimming lessons. Wedding guests running up and down hallway in early hours of morning, shouting, swearing and waking us up on several occasions during the night.
Food was brilliant Room with an upgrade for £14 was really superb Grounds and staff were good too
Expensive drinks prices!
Grounds & food were good. Staff friendly, service good
Rooms we're of a very poor standard. Looked like they hadn't been refurbished since the 1970's! Bath also not clean! Disappointing for a 4 star hotel!
wedding party noisy early hours of the morning
