Eaton Hotel Non Smoking  

Great food and public areas and great location

Although the bedroom was fairly clean, the wardrobe area was dusty and I had to wipe it down before I put my clothes in. There was a terrible smell from all of the drains and the toilet in the bathroom which spread into the bedroom.

the staff are lovely and very helpfull, location is great, right on the canal.

The room was not ready on our arival, when we did get in a man wanted to carry out some bathroom repairs, which happened to be re sealing the shower, which left an awfull chemical smell in the room and the shower was left very dity, i had to clean it before i used it. However i have stayed at the eaton before and had a lovely experience, i would use again!

Very close to train station and city centre, room was really nice, bar and restaurant available, entertainment available, good price, breakfast was good, felt welcome

No plug in bath so couldn't have a bath, could hear the live music really loud from our room although it didn't bother us at all it could be a problem for others however we were in the room directly above the bar so it probably isn't as loud from other rooms.

Close to the city centre, within easy walking distance of all we needed

It was very noisy We requested a quiet room but were on the main road. The outer window did not close properly nor did the secondary glazing so we were awake most of the night.

Very clean, staff are very friendly and cordial. Breakfasts are good in quality and portion. Excellent position for downtown Chester and the canal. Lots of restaurant choice besides the Hotel itself.

Great location, next to canal. Also close to train station, so easy to get to. Price was good.

Dark and unwelcoming atmosphere. State of decoration was the worse I've seen. Tap was dripping and could not be shut off Windows could not be closed, so noisy at night. Lift to basement would not work in morning.

We where looked after very proffesionaly by the receptionist, who was also trying to run the bar at the same time as booking us and other guests in to the hotel.

Our first allocated room was totaly unusable due to the amount of residual cigarette smoke when we opened the door, it was difficult to breath. This can only have come from somebody being in the room after the previous guests had departed, as the room was clean, bed made etc! and it was 4 hours after the allocated booking in time. Considering the KEY words in the title are Eaton Hotel 'NON SMOKING' This awas discusting, and had we had time to look elsewhere, we most certainly would have done so.

Downstairs bar served craft beer from their own brewery onsite. Bar was friendly, staff were good. Barfood was good and reasonably priced. Rooms were adequate considering price for B&B was better than most hotels in the city. Canalside location, convenience to city and railway station was excellent, just a short walk. Reception staff were more than helpful in the lead up to the stay as we made a couple of changes to our booking.

We stayed 3 nights and breakfast was not consistent ranging from excellent to vergeing on poor on one morning. If the hotel has different breakfast staff on different mornings it may be worth examining why the inconsistency takes place. Coffee quality is an achilles heel of many hotels. I have made comments on booking.com many many times as I travel a lot. It is difficult to find good coffee in hotels in the mornings, they seem to fail to commission their bean to cup fresh coffee system and use a poor self service cheap instant coffee maching. The Eaton was no exception, coffee was very poor quality from their breakfast service. I will emphasise again my dissapointment with this as I believe it is easy to supply fresh coffee if only from a filter canister that sits on top of a cup available from supermarket for 20 pence each, otherwise a filter jug would suffice. An instant-coffee machine just dosnt do the job. All that said the hotel was a pleasant experience hence I rated it 8 out of 10.

I was very surprised at some of the comments i read on my return. We had two rooms number 1 and 3, with canel views, they where on the ground floor just off the entrance, they looked newly done up and where very comfortable. The staff where very nice, and the breakfast was excellent. this is billed as a two star, i dont know why its not three star! The location was a short walk straight up from the train station and about the same again into the centre of the town, there are lots of resturands and bars about although we used our own hotel bar at night. there is an exit from the bar to the canel which is a beautiful walk and very popular. there was also a beer garden which would be fab in the hot weather looking out onto the water.

may be a problem with the heating the radiator in my own room was only look warm, however this was fine for me, my friends room was the same and the staff gave them a heater so no problem, if the weather had been colder it might have been a different story. In saying that the hallways and bar where always warm, so not a problem all over

We would have welcomeed a duvet as bedding rather old fashioned and very heavy

Hotel staff very friendly and helpful .rooms very clean and tidy. Great Location only a short walk into town .great value for money .

Room was very hot the first night unable to turn down radiator

Reception, bar, eating areas nicely decorated, stylish, contemporary. Good location. Staff friendly, knowledgeable of local informaton and helpful. Late check out time (11am). Warm Price

Room was dated (nothing like photos advertised) No running hot water, unable to shower or wash. (Staff on reception did try to address problem & offered some reimbursement as couldnt be fixed during our stay)
