Score from 582 reviews Good
Perfect for what we wanted which was a bed for the night after the races
No shower curtain, rusty chrome in bathroom
Excellent value for money considering location and breakfast included
Chosen for proximity to the railway station it is a reasonable option for rail travellers. Canalside location gives access to a good selection of pubs and restaurants.
The whole place was rather down at heel and it is surprising that it rates a 2 star classification. The first room we were offered didn't have working lights in the bathroom and the replacement was small and cramped. Windows were painted shut so not possible to open to get air overnight. Wi-Fi didn't reach the 2nd floor.
Perfectly place for the city centre and walking distance to the racecourse. Breakfast was really good and the staff were very friendly and polite.
very small room, and hard to find (nr. 12 through 3 doors and 2 staircases)
The bath wouldn't fit an adult in. It was half the size of a normal bath. There was pubic hair all over the mattress under the sheets. The whole place had a strange, rancid smell.
I stayed there for a stag weekend next time I'm bringing my wife to stay there
The breakfast could be a little bit big
Unfussy - fine for the price
Bathroom light problem but not sure who to tell
the breakfast was good and there was plenty of tea and milk in the room.
the room smelled seriously of damp and clearly there had been a leak in the room as some point judging by the staining on the carpet. the mattress was old and lumpy and the bathroom was not very clean - dust and dirt all along the skirting, radiator and around the sink cupboard. Couldn't work the TV
reception staff even though we complained about the cleanliness of the bathroom they still remained professional although I don't think they passed on our complaint because nothing was said about when we checked out. As we only there one night we didn't mention again.
I booked a room for 3 adults, the room was cramped, dark and split into two (which I know is a perfect family layout), on booking I thought the room was ground level with a patio onto the canal as in the booking.com website, the bathroom was dirty, the toilet was dirty, it needed a very good clean and maybe re-grouted, we went out to buy bleach before we used these facilities, we didn't have breakfast which was included we decided to eat out.
Staff very helpful
Beds very uncomfortable would not recommend staying on a Saturday night as very loud music until early hours of the morning from club opposite.
staff were pleasant. Good location to train station and city centre.
Bathroom had no light only shaver light now and then. Reported this but it was not fixed. Only 1 plug in room and aerial plus was hanging off the wall. We chose it because of the Restaurant Bar and Grill and outside terrace but this was closed for refurbishment but we were not informed on website or when we booked. Window almost impossible to open or close. Would have found it difficult to stay for more than one night otherwise we would have had to consider moving.
Shower Rail broken. No downstairs bar open as advertised on Web.
staff very helpful and friendly .room very comfortable. Food was lovely highly recommend this hotel
not so much dislike as it was obvious that this hotel was in transition fro m an old load of rubish to a smart canal side hotel They seem to be managing quite well.
Great location, close to station, canal side walk, short walk to Grosvenor Park and town centre. Nice room, very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good. Couldn't ask for more! Absolute great value!
Location was excellent, cheap prices, nice breakfast, good hosts, clean room
Bed too small, bar was closed for renovation which isn't advertised online we have stayed before and the bar and entertainment was excellent please reopen ASAP
Mainly clean, friendly staff, close to the city centre.Plenty of towels.Good value for money.Ok for a very short stay.
Grouting grubby in the bathroom, television mounted at awkward angle, hard bed, fixtures and fittings hanging off e.g wobbly tap and towel rail held on with tape!Given front room so it was incredibly noisy late at night/early morning as hotel is set on the main road.Wouldn't recommend this particular room. Stated parking available but this is owned by the council not the hotel and is only available between 6pm and 8am.
Position great local to all shops and bars
Canal side bar closed.room windows didn't work properly
The ladies at breakfast were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you.
The very small twin room, where we could not open the windows and it was so hot we could not sleep. In addition the noise was unbearable. We stayed here exactly a year ago, enjoyed it and decided to stay again. Unfortunately the downstairs bar was also closed and nothing seemed the same
Downstairs bar and location of the hotel.
Nothing negative to say
Location was good handy near train station, and city center, food was good
could be slightly noisy at night due to bathroom fans coming on all hours because they auto detect the guests, but i guess they have too so they save power
good value for money. staff were very helpfull. nice selection for breakfast.
The location is good. There are pleasant bars and restaurants nearby and the city centre is only 10 minutes walk away.
This hotel was grubby and in need of much maintenance, not at all the impression one gets from the photos. The management wish you to report problems in order for you to enjoy your stay. I did but no action was taken. The bathroom light did not work.(It had no natural light with the door closed). A repair was promised but it wasn't even attempted. In the end I fixed it myself but the light was still malfunctioning when we left. On the other hand our money was taken within 5 minutes of our arrival. The room was small, stuffy and in need of repainting. The windows were v dirty and difficult to open : (secondary glazing tracks clogged with dirt). There were cracked tiles in the bathroom, badly applied filler and the cover for the TV aerial was falling away from the wall. The carpet had not been well cleaned. A bag of rubbish was left in the lift for the first 12 hours of our stay. At breakfast my shirt stuck to the table and the gloomy breakfast room appeared to be undergoing a refurbishment which had ground to a halt. The breakfast, the furniture in the room and the bed were OK. There were other signs of neglect e.g. the cracked floor tiles in the hotel entrance and the badly chipped milk jug. I don't like complaining but I stay in a lot of budget accommodation and this compares badly.
