Clean Nickel and dimed for various things - luggage storage (1.50 per hour!!) and Internet was not free. Not a fan of SYHA hostels. Will not stay at YHA again.

10 min walk from Waverley station. Room 2 situated on main street, so expect to be kept awake by noisy late night drunks passing by.

such a clean, well appointed hostel, fresh and modern with quality fittings. Really ipressed with the bathroom facilities in the dorm. Nice cafe on ground floor. Also easy to find and not too far from Princes St/bus/train stations. Plus there was no rowdiness from other guests. I highly rate this hostel there was nothing I didnt like about my stay

Hostel was clean, staff were friendly Poor value. More expensive than other hostels and it seemed to try and make money out of you at every chance. I've travelled around the world and the add-on costs were more expensive than in Australia and New Zealand (which I thought at the time were expensive) For example Extras for WiFi Paying for luggage room. The latter I felt quite angry about. 50p per hour is alot, particularly as checkout time is 10am. Most hotels in the UK don't charge for this service, and none of the many hostels I've been to charge anywhere near this (infact almost all had luggage charges for free). I had 10 hours before my flight so this would have meant paying an extra 1/3 of my room price just to leave my bag - I didn't because of this and it left me with a pretty bad view of the hostel because of it.

Really nice bed :) And after my long day I could find a cup of tee on the 1st floor :) Three old ladies in my room were snoring all night long :( Was exhausted on the next day of my trip. Next time I will just ask - is there any old lady in the room that I'm going to stay in? If yes, it's probably no hope for a good rest...

Area suited us. It was clean, staff very friendly and helpful lack of discipline where a party of school children were running up & down the corridors, jumping off beds and were extremely noisy. I don't blame the staff, but the adults accompanying them left them to their own devises. Floor below where fellow companions were, stated it was totally different on the 2nd floor and all quiet. In the morning the children were lined up and quietly walked to the dining room==not the 3rd floor! We did complain and it was dealt with. Can you please fix the venetian blinds?

All mentioned on section 2 As I was put on room 7 in the basement there was a constant noises of furnitures being moved around and footsteps from people walking about in the restaurant area - I am not sure what would be the best solution from the management point of view - but it would be fair to mention that to any would be guest to occupy such facility. I was too tired to ask for another room. That apart, otherwise everything else was excellent.

First time in a hostel and really enjoyed it. Clean room, comfortable bed, close to the city-center and the Royal Mile! Awesome! Paying £1 for 20 mins of Wi-Fi is quite expensive... This is actually the only negative remark I have.

The room was very comfortable and clean. The hostel is conveniently located about 20 minutes from the center. The kitchen is well equipped. Wifi costs £1 an hour and is not reliable or fast. I found the staff to be very unfriendly and unhelpful. I had the continental breakfast, which was expensive and not worth the money, especially considering you can go down the road and pay half the price for twice the quality. Finally, and perhaps the worst, you are charged for luggage storage, per hour! Never in my life have I had to pay for luggage storage, in either a hotel or a hostel. Considering this is a hostel and not a hotel, it is not exactly backpacker friendly.

Stayed in room 221 on 6th March, there was a mark on the steps to top bunk, over where i slept.........was it blood? Also the plug under the bed was falling apart!
