We booked at the last min for New Yrs Eve....we did enquire before and they said no entertainment ,,,,but we thought have a nice chill out pool, steam room ,etc....nice meal ....the staff at reception were lovely as was the night porter.....the hotel was lovely ,nice and clean etc..Beautifull old Hotel with beautifull views and character... To our dissapointment and other guests the pool closed at 4.00pm I know it was New Yrs Eve but the people that went there went to chill and I think to close at 4.00pm was not good we were not the only ones to complain ...6.00pm fine so no pool or spa...ok next a nice meal then we were told the restaurant was full and it wasnt, but they said we could have a meal in the Bar ...which is not quite the same it was New Yrs Eve ....nothing on ,so a meal was all we could do we went to our room got changed...and waited for the nxt table only to be told we couldnt use the rest.....not very good...so we had our meal in the Bar as we had no choice....very disappointing but we were not going to let in spoil our evening ..we chatted to fellow travellers and brought in the New Yr ...I think the hotel could have made a bit more effort on New Yrs Eve ,,,the staff very lovely it wasnt there fault ...

I stay in hotels most weeks and this is one of the best! From a friendly welcome through to speedy checkout the experience was great! The bar meal I had was well cooked and quickly served - and there was plenty of light and space in my room for working. Leisure facilities looked good - one of these days I'll go back with enough time to enjoy them. The hotel is set in beautiful countryside too!

Majority of the staff were very good. The setting of the hotel is lovely and the bedrooms are very spacious and clean. The staff are very pleasant although i did find that the trainers in the gym were a bit off and seemed to concentrate on people they knew....not helpful at all. At breakfast no-one there to seat me, so i sat at an empty table and it took several minutues before the waitress came over.

It was great to have good leisure facilities on site after a long drive. The pool is very good and the gym looked well equipped. They even have 2 squash courts! The free wi-fi worked in the bar and my room which was useful. The room was a little run down and spartan. The general state of decor in the public areas was in need of a revamp, though it did appear this was under way with several areas in the process of at least being painted. The bar had 3 real ales though all were out of stock.

This is a typical golfing hotel located in its own very rural location on the outskirts of Plymouth. It would make a very good base for visiting local attractions. Very reasonably priced when I stayed (a Tuesday night in August). The general public areas are very good. The bar has several large screen TV's showing sky sport and typical bar food. The leisure facilities were excellent with well equipped gym, good sized pool and sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Squash courts also. The room I stayed in (Lincoln - they have names) was a bit on the small size, had thin walls (I could hear the guest in the next room) and overlooked the outside seating areas for the bar. Despite this I had a quiet night with no disturbances. This could be different if there was a function going on. Watch out for the rooms on the back side of the hotel. There is a large kitchen extractor system which could cause some background noise. Overall I would stay again. Smallish room - ok for one night. Thin walls - can hear next door accupants luckily quiet during my stay. Room directly above bar so could be noisy if a function on

The location and view from the room over the golf course and surrounding hills was lovely. It was a quiet relaxing place to stay. the pool and gym were easy to access. The hotel breakfast choices were excellent and the withdrawing area with sofas to sit and have coffee or read the papers was a great space. The Brasserie meals and drinks were excellent value, with again a good range on offer, the atnmosphere in the bar at both lunch and evening was calm and relaxed. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and all spoke as they passed. The decor in some rooms is starting to look a little tired, (threadbare carpet in the bay of one room and a hole in the wall where the door closer had smashed through. other than that the hotel was of excellent standard. A bottle of water in the rooms would be a nice alternative to tea and coffee

A hotel with a view on the golfcourse. (Vieuw of the room) The shower in the bathroom had a very good waterbeam. The Spa facilities The quietness / silence at night. Good breakfast. The brasserie, not very attractive and the food was not very good. The room was not very cosy, we stayed 5 nights.

The country house setting, grounds and golf course. Saturday night was very noisy as our room was above the reception and a wedding reception was in progress. Wedding guests were celebrating into the early hours. If staying at this Hotel during a weekend when a wedding reception is in progress, be prepared for some noise and possible disturbance of sleep. Golfers also teed off at 7am on a Sunday outside the front of the hotel...so again be prepared to be woken early if you have your bedroom window open.
