a weekend away without the children is a treat and we picked the perfect place to stay. A short walking distance into the city the Elgano is beautifully presented and is blessed with truly amazing staff. Thank you so very much
I liked that there were no time restrictions to when you'd have to arrive back at the hotel in the evening. We also enjoyed how peaceful and quiet it was, and the location was perfect. The price for what we got was outstanding and we'd definitely recommend Elgano Hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Cardiff!
Staff were very welcoming and hospitable. Room was excellant for our needs and not far from the centre of Cardiff.
Good location. Helpful staff
Carpark bit of a nightmare to get in and out of and were parked bumper to bumper so difficult to come and go. Bed hard. No bedside cabinets to put stuff on. No hot water....were told about this at breakast by which time it was too late.
This was our first visit to Cardiff ever and also to this hotel. We were very pleased by the warm welcome received from member of staff Petra who was also very helpful. The wifi worked very well, the triple room was clean, it was also very quiet and was perfect for our needs. We enjoyed our cooked breakfast in the morning and headed off to the open day at the Uni which was a 5 minute drive. It have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
We had a room in the coach house at the back of the main house - a fabulous experience. It couldn't be any better when you are a tourist experiencing Wales. The staff were very helpful and nice and made us feel very welcome. The location is also perfect. It's within walking distance to the castle.
There was nothing we didn't like. It was a perfect place.
over very good would use then again
missed out on a full English- so they made us a sausage sandwich it could of been a bit better - but on the other hand they made us something which was great .
Clean and comfortable Nice to have bigger rooms for bigger groups
Not the cheapest but booked last minute
This was the perfect hotel for me. Nothing super fancy, but a wonderfully historical building close to Cardiff Castle, shopping, and the train station. I really enjoyed my stay.
The only negative for me was cosmetic. The carpet needs replacing on the stairway, but that's not anything that would deter me from staying again.
What we liked most was how responsive to needs and friendly the owner was. We felt welcomed. The location was good for us as we did not want to be on a busy street in center city.
Sleep was only fair as our back room was across the road from a stadium practice field and the lights and noise went on until after 10. No one's fault that there were 9,000 armed police roaming the city-the NATO meeting.
Breakfast was good quality and plentiful. Staff/owners friendly. Convenient location, short walk to the centre of Cardiff.
stayed in the coach house in the hotel grounds, would probably prefer the main house.
Good breakfast in a pleasant dining room. Good service from the only member of staff we ever saw. Young girl rushed off her feet doing breakfast/reception. En suite bathroom good with a powerful shower.
Very small bedroom, would expect larger room if staying longer. No room for bedside units, very small shelves provided instead. Mattress dipped at both sides so there was a tendency to roll off!
LocationGood, staff helpful and cheerful. Good value breakfast
Very small twin bedded room, extremenly basic. Overlooked a very noisy road. Would not stay there again
Friendly, helpful staff
room - breakfast - communal areas
Comfortable and lovely staff
Very noisy kept me awake. Were located out in coach house ( not the main house) walls were very thin. Could hear every movement
Walking distance to town centre, staff very attentive. Coach house was very nice, had everything u needed, shower was nice and powerful too. Would stay again :)
the entrance (from a narrow alleyway) is so small that I scraped the car door after almost 3 attempts to get in.
The friendly welcome. The very reasonable rates. The convenient location - a very pleasant riverside walk through the castle grounds takes you into the centre of Cardiff in 15 minutes. There is also a bus stop outside if you don't want to walk.
Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Great selection of food at breakfast!
felt very comfortable
Location excellent for city centre and Sophia Gardens , home of Glamorgan County Cricket ground. Lovely staff, good breakfast. Room and facilities clean and comfortable, Parking available.Nice flat screen TV.
Although parking availability was a plus, the access was very difficult and exiting (not through any fault of the hotel) was nearly impossible because some inconsiderate parking in the access lane which made manoeuvring nearly impossible. Light kept flicking on and off in the bathroom while I was in the shower (didn't really bother me too much). Noise from adjoining rooms were quite loud, I could even here what they were saying on the TV in the neighbouring room when trying to get to sleep. However, again, didn't really bother me as I was very tired and went off to sleep with no problems.
Excellent location near Cardiff's beautiful parkland and magnificent castle. Plenty of food options that are relatively cheap as well. The castle is stop number one for the hop-on hop -off buses so easy to " launch" into Cardiff from here. Accommodation clean and for two people in a room, more than adequate. One of the best shower / bath room water pressure wise that we have experienced in our six weeks of touring :) breakfast was adequate. Very friendly staff.
Rooms only big enough for two which was fine for us but noticed that some rooms were being used for families of three and four.
On my first trip to Cardiff I could not have picked a better hotel! Ms Hazel was the Perfect Host upon our arrival (as was her assistant). They both gave us excellent directions in touring the city and with this location of the hotel walking thru Sophia Gardens into the city center was just that added bonus!! Do not expect to be disappointed in eating breakfast...She will not disappoint in loading you up....fresh and filling; having eaten quite a few English Breakfasts; Ms' Hazel's Breakfast certainly soared to number 1. I will book with her and the Elgano Hotel "only" from here on out whenever I return.....
Location, nice staff, good wifi service, excellent breakfast
The room was designed for 2 people rather than for 3. The car park had a too narrow gate.
