Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable and welcoming. Good place to stay to view Felixtoe. Would definitely go back.
Elegant Edwardian public rooms and areas. Our evening meal in The Buttery was enjoyable and very reasonably priced. Breakfast in the main dining room offered a good choice, including waitress served hot dishes.
Lack of extractor fan in the bathroom.
Room clean & comfortable. Bathroom clean. Staff pleasant, polite & friendly. Good service in bar & dining room. Food good. Parking good.
It is a lovely old building
I stayed there last year and the standard is dropping drastically. The phone in our room did not work and they were not able to repair it in the 5 days we were there. The front desk suggested we use the public phone down the road. That was typical of the staffs attitude.
Spacious room, efficient and welcoming staff
Rickety lift; very dated decor; blind in bathroom was shabby and gave little privacy
Breakfasts very good.
The room needed modernising, especially the bathroom.
Friendly receptionist. We were upgraded as our room that we had booked had a leak. They was no fuss they just simply upgraded us to best room :-)
We had a posh free standing bath but the water pressure was rubbish to took a long time to half fill.
We stayed at the Orwell on way to catch ferry staff were very helpful hotel very good
Friendly staff, when you could find them!
Bar unattended at busy times had to search for bar staff to get a drink and meal. Breakfast in morning not organised, people not getting tea, coffee and toast until after they had finished their breakfast.
The staff were friendly!
Bedroom was very hot and uncomfortable! Breakfast was a buffet, very tasty; however we had to ask for knives & forks, salt & pepper side plates, table napkins we had to ask for everything including coffee, milk & sugar!
Service and breakfast
The suite did not live up to expectations as imposed by the booking description. All this and a horrendous view.
Superb value...we have paid twice as much for hotels that were not half as good as the Orwell
We liked the peace and quiet of the lounges/dining room/public places with just right amount of really good background music - not intrusive at all. The friendly welcome we always receive from staff, and also the dining room staff - although rushed off their feet (just 2 girls) with so many guests on Sunday they remained cheerful, polite, helpful and unflappable!! We also like it if there is a wedding when we stay because it's fascinating to see all the outfits.
Has Chef got shares in market garden selling ONE variety of lettuce? It appeared on fish and chips - that IS going a bit far! What happened to "salad" with sandwiches? It was always dreary "frilly" lettuce! We didn't approve of misbehaved children in dining room, parents should make offspring behave, it was dreadful.
Free room upgrade. Restaurant Plenty of parking.
Lower floor Victorian rooms are beautiful. Dinner and breakfast were wonderful
bedrooms were shabby and bed springs could be felt while sleeping
The walls were paper thin. Kept up all night by wedding music. Service at reception appalling. Food worse. Service at dinner horrific. Kitchen should be ashamed of the food it served to us. Bedrooms very tired.
Convenient location Nice breakfast
We arrived at 13.30 - the hotel wanted to charge £20 surcharge because we arrived before 2pm We paid for a suite - a suite is not a normal bedroom with a 2 seater sofa crammed in it Seats in dining room and library all worn out and collapsed We had to leave one day early due to urgent business elsewhere - hotel insisted on charging for the unused night even though this was the height of the season and we heard them turning away bookings every day
The staff and the catering
The bed was hard
The staff and food was great
The decor and service
Car park was open for everyone and residents parking was full at times.
Most things but difficulty with parking during early evening resulting in having to move my car twice.
Lack of staff in the bar area during the evening even though there was a wedding reception it shouldn't need us to go to reception frequently to get someone to serve as paying guests
The position of the hotel was good. The decor of the restaurant and bar was very authentic. Food good. Online booking good.
The bed could have been bigger. The trouser press did not work. The remote control needed a new battery. The bath surround needed replacing. Press and remote were reported to reception when we checked out.
The restaurant was excellent as were the staff. The room although a little tired was spacious and good value.
The notices dotted around saying how much extra you would be charged if you arrived early, left late etc - the sort of thing you would expect in a holiday camp not a hotel.
Staff very good and attentive, facilities very good, excellent value
