The Orwell HotelHamilton Rd, IP11 7DX Felixstowe (Show map) Good, Score from 117 reviews“It is a well priced luxury Hotel well placed for many needs.”
Kevin,
Suffolk
Close to the center of town and just yards from Felixstowe Train Station, this impressive Victorian hotel is rich in original charm and traditional character, with free parking for guests. Originally dating back to 1898, the Orwell Hotel is a traditional, old-fashioned hotel, which underwent a major refurbishment during the fall of 2003. The property was initially built for Lord Tollemarch. Today, the spacious public areas are wood-paneled and traditionally decorated with a wealth of charm and elegance. There are 58 rooms with private bathrooms, all of which are tastefully furnished. A full English Breakfast is included in the price. Westerfield’s Restaurant has an elegant atmosphere and offers both a fixed price menu and dining menu. Felixstowe is an Edwardian resort and, like the hotel itself, it still retains much of its original charm. The town features beautiful south-facing grounds, many attractions, safe beaches and a paved promenade. The hotel is just a mile (one mile) from the town’s port. Hotel Rooms: 60

Well positioned for shopping and acess to railway and bus facilities. The lounges and His Lordships Library were maintained as original and very comfortable and relaxing. Outside, the gardens were well kept and the car park large and adequate We felt that the room did not match the quality of the rest of the hotel the beds were very hard and uncomfortable and the bathroom although not in anyway dirty was a bit tired looking and the shower and taps were difficult to operate easily.

Made welcome from the moment we entered the hotel, the car park was near the entrance and the room was warm and cosy. Dining is exquisite. The Location is ideal for the Beach and it is a short 5 minutes walk to the shops. The shower was poor due to low water pressure.

The traditional Edwardian/Victorian opulence in the public part of the hotel. The fixtures and fittings were stained and old fashioned. It was very cold because the double glazing window that opened was missing a latch and didn't quite close properly. The shower was feeble; they were redecorating just outside our room which meant it smelled badly of gloss paint.

We had stayed there before, 14 years ago. Not a lot has changed and the ambience is pleasant. Has a touch of faded elegance which we quite enjoyed. Excellent dining a good 'English' breakfast. Definitely stay there again.

It looks like it had a lot of work done on it since the last time we stayed two years ago. the bedroom in particular was very nice. It is right opposite the train station which makes it very convenient.

Clean. Elegant.Grand. Excellent food. Friendly efficient staff. The price of the wine I thought was over the top. £25 for sparkling wine you can get in a shop for about £6. Obviously you'd expect to pay more but 4 to 5 times as much? But I felt compelled to order it because I was celebrating.

Good position close to Felixstowe town centre but little or no traffic noise. Staff very helpful even when we returned and ordered coffees at 11.45pm. Hotel has character but tariff we paid was very reasonable. Would stay again if we visited the area again. Tap mixer on bath was very wobbly and took a while to work out how to operate.

The Orwell is a fabulous and luxurious hotel, set in beatiful 'surrounding' grounds. It's right in the town centre across from the rail station with the sea just a short walk away... A perfect hotel with helpful/knowledgable staff - I would 'certainly' recomend it to al... L! Roger James (singer&songwriter) Watford, England, uk.

The relaxed old fashon atmosphere where you could quietly sit without the staff pestering you, the resteraunt and the pianist at dinner where exelent. The disply cabinets where also interesting to look at. There was nothing we didn't like but a bit of a referbishment of some areas wouldn't go amiss
