Spacy room for 2 adults and 1 child. Beautiful view from windows. Great breakfast. Convenient parking. Clean.
No elevator and many steep steps. Problem with shower facet and so was difficult to enjoy the shower. Great location for people who want the west coast of the Lake District.
The setting for the hotel Good breakfast Staff helpful Cleanliness in rooms was good
The hotel needs an injection of life. We were there when the hotel was fully booked hardly saw a soul ,seems to be missing it's spark. Such a shame for such beautiful hotel.
The staff were really friendly and attentive. The food was excellent too. Love this part of the world. The hotel fully deserves better occupancy.
Nothing at all everything was to our expectation
The evening meal was excellent and the surroundings very quiet.
The food and the staff
Lack of furniture in the room ie only one easy chair , the shower pressure very a disapointing
The building was nice and old. Location was good.
There didn't seem to be much people staying at the hotel but we were put next door to another couple and it was very noisy at times with the paper thin walls. The water pressure in the shower was poor and the bathroom smelt like gas. The floor was also carpeted which added to the of our.
The house was lovely, surroundings were peaceful great for a bit of peace and quiet.
the toliet lid was broken in the room.
Games room with snooker table a real bonus. Liked the stained glass and decorated ceilings.
Good friendly service by both staff members, nice place have only good things to say, would have no problem recommending to any friends
We were the only two people in the hotel so no heating which is ok in summer, how ever because it was just me and my daughter I can understand this
Breakfast and location
Well the fact that we was told on arrival that the late key was for after 11pm and when we got back at 10.15 pm the hole hotel was totally shut down and the key did not open the main door and the fact that there was no one there at all was a joke what if there was a fire or anythink there should always be a member of staff on site in a hotel of this size .
The owners have a huge problem making a poor building attractive and as far as internally they have clean well decorated bedroom. But single room small
Drab building. Building not attractive. Ancient carpets.
No lift, microwaved dinners and restricted wifi in public places
It was in an excellent location for our needs, we had a friends wedding to attend in maryport. The staff were all vey friendly and helpful. The tea making facilities in the room with biscuits was good, and the room was lovely and warm. overall, it was a lovely old country house, and we would definetly stay there again.
Our mattress on the bed was very lumpy, and the shower fell off the wall quite easily and it would have benefited from an extra shelf in the bathroom to put our toiletries on, and also the light over the mirrors in the bathroom and bedroom didnt work.
The friendly staff and the ambience of the old building.
No bedside table.
Food staff location friendliness nothing too much trouble
no lift to bedrooms not suitable for disabled people who find it difficult to walk & climb stairs
The hotel has original features going back quite some time, lots to do with shipping. A real find if anyone is into history. Staff friendly and extremely helpful, food good, scenery fabulous, very relaxing. A lovely place. will stay again if in that area.
Decor needs renewing but not so much as to detract from the age of the place, just replacing, like with like.
breakfast good and served piping hot. hotel tidy and clean
bedroom facilities basic,no bedside locker on one side and other side had locker but lead on light was too short to have beside bed
good food, friendly and near our destination
Clean comfortable bedroom good food
very quiet, haphazard service in the bar
Location was ideal for our business trip but equally good if we were just visiting the Lake District. The decor was fresh and in keeping and much appreciated. Staff were very friendly and efficient and we would stay there again.
No literature available or card to take to refer to again. Conversation overheard was 'If the owners are not concerned why should the staff be?' which was rather suprising to say the least and what was being referred to was not known but this sort of talk should not be within the hearing of any visitors.
it was a lovely old building in lovely location. plenty of parking. food was good when service was. i think if rooms redecorated and less chaos at mealtimes would be lovely.
the room was very drab old bathroom with carpet and damp all round window which got smelly at times. poor service sometimes at mealtimes..with it being old building thought rooms would reflect the property but very 80's
Ellenbank hotel is a beautiful building, the main building itself is stunning the annex, functional. However, I think it is in desperate need of some tlc and modernisation, it was shabby and not in a chic way. The staff were friendly and helpful when available! However on the second night at 9:45pm no staff were present, no one responded to the reception bell, which made us feel alone and vulnerable in case of emergency. I understand was due to the low occupancy, but that made us feel unimportant? The room (18) was clean and adequate as a base, but not furnished well, a single bedside table and extremely dated bedside lamp. The facilities were fine, tea/coffee and tv which had the main freeview channels. The shower was weak and took a while to warm up, the bathroom was badly arranged making the shower difficult to use as the bath was fitted back to front and a soap basket/tray placed poorly so as to hinder when trying to shower. The breakfast room was clean on the whole but on the second day we used the same table and the linen table cloth still had a stain from the previous morning. But it was stocked with cereals, condiments, fresh orange juice and milk. As for the cooked breakfast, it became a story of two mornings. On the first morning it was overcooked and very poor, the second morning, after asking who was cooking and it proving not to be the same person as the previous day, it was a marked improvement and satisfactory. The restruant menu was very basic but I am sure acceptable. Parking was plentiful and there seemed to be ample space.
The restaurant /bar closed ridiculously early on the second night (9pm) I was informed this was due to lack of patrons, we were only one of two rooms occupied The Games room was closed, on asking if it were accessible to guests I was informed that it was now used as storage! Wifi was unavailable as far as I could tell, I never found an available network which would be helpful but not necessary and could easily be made available in the whole hotel.
