Score from 172 reviews Good
In the small village of Great Clifton, on the west coast of the Cumbrian Lake District, this charming inn was converted from a 17th-century farmstead and offers comfortable, characteristic...

Nice room, shower, bed all excellent. Room was nice and warm with a quiet location. Great breakfast. Friendly owners, very helpful and made us feel very welcome.
nothing loved it.
Clean, comfy and friendly. What more do you need.
So used to "corporate" hotels it was a very pleasant change. I liked the flexibility in arrival time, friendly and welcoming hosts. Excellent room and en-suite, fabulous breakfast. Definitely staying again
Everything was spotless. John and Mandy very accommodating. I had to make emergency phone calls to the US--no problem. Really fun to have fresh duck & chicken eggs for breakfast, the price to pay --the rooster crowing.
The rooster crowing
Location, comfortable bed friendly and helpf hosts and excellent breakfast
Living room downstairs Breakfast was fantastic!!!!!!
very friendly hosts .suggested places to visit.good breakfast.
we had the same towels for six days ,one hand towel between two people.
Everything. John and Mandy were so helpful with everything from suggesting places to go/see/eat (and every one was brilliant) to even offering to give us a lift to the nearest town so we could both have a drink. It fulfilled pretty much everything what we wanted and it had my ultimate arbiter of a great breakfast - they used good quality sausages, not the cheap, frozen ones you get so often in hotel breakfasts. The bed was comfy and big and the rooms were well equipped and had a good shower. It's also well-placed to get to other parts of the Lake District - 20 minutes to Ravenglass and only an hour to Keswick. If you're looking for a relaxing place for a country holiday, with great surroundings and lovely people, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place than this.
Really not an awful lot wrong (and I'm being *VERY* picky to get my 200 characters). WiFi could be a little patchy, but was perfectly good enough to stream Bake Off (although didn't like Doctor Who). Not an issue for me, but there was a cockerel in the yard that was crowing from 4am (wasn't that loud, but you were aware of it) - if you're a very light sleeper, that may be a problem. It's also about 1.5 miles from St Bees and the nearest pub - not the greatest problem in the history of the world for us, but something to consider if you all want 4 pints of an evening.
The owners were so accommodating and helpful. Not only did they carry our bags upstairs, they drove us in to town and to the start of our Coast to Coast walk the next day. They were very knowledgable about the area and were entertaining.
We did not have a car and it was not a safe walk in the dark if we had to do that (which we did not)
Friendly place good food and comfortable
Bit far out to walk into town for a beer and food later in the evening Thought the lounge area was private when we booked not shared with other rooms
Spacious, comfortable rooms; attention to detail- eg face cloths, iron & ironing board, fridge; cleanliness; breakfast; friendliness of hosts
Lovely and welcoming. Fabulous breakfast!
Great welcome and helpful. Suggested places to visit and where to eat. A lovely home and great rocking horses! A very good breakfast.
Nothing to dislike.
It was ideal for us to get to St.Bees. Also a lovely breakfast to get us on our way.
Large clean room with good en suite, excellent breakfasts and friendly hosts.
Excellent room & breakfast set in a tranquil rural location run by a very nice couple.
Good location, helpful , very comfortable and fantastic breakfast.
? Could not find fault
Everything was great, it was a short stay and the owners were first class. The rooms were very comfortable. We requested an early breakfast and this was brilliant. Everyone was really pleased.
Look of the place ie barn conversion, finishing of the room and common areas, woodwork, use of a small lounge, location, nice welcome.
Small issue but you did ask! Bathroom a bit cramped.
The countryside location and surroundings. The hosts and the accomodation.
Nothing to dislike.
Lovely bed, especially after 55 miles cycling
Lack of bath
Great hospitality- very friendly, helpful hosts who offered lifts and advice. Lovely breakfast. Very clean too.
I liked everything from beautiful location, the hospitality, the facilities and home like feel to the place, Beautiful cooked breakfast and close to town and lovely places to eat.
Very friendly and helpful owners who went out of their way to make our stay agreeable.
The location is a little way out of St Bees which could make it a bit problematic for walkers, but the owners were very kind in providing transport.
