Ellerthwaite Lodge is perfectly situated for travelling by public transport or by car to other towns and within a short walking distance to the beautiful Bowness on Windermere. There are plenty of shops and good restaurants nearby and the Elerthwaite Lodge gives a grand full English breakfast with lots of alternative options for those with a lesser appetite. The staff are very friendly and warmly interested in its clients. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the interior is really elegant, with a lovely little piece of history that makes one feel that you have stepped back in times long ago to witness the sumptuous lifestyle of the wealthy. We would like to know more of the history of this fabulous lodge. We would recommend this place particularly for the location and the ambiance of the staff. The room we stayed in was number 11 and it was a climb for me being elderly and not good with stairs, but that is no fault of the proprietors and I should have checked beforehand. We would have liked it more if there had been a bar to relax in at the Lodge after a full day sightseeing, as we are a more mature couple and the bars around are full of younger folks, alas, we feel out of place in them. We have stayed in much smaller guest houses in the area where there have been full bar facilities. We found ourselves in our room (which was a tad small) much earlier than we would have liked. It is not the same when you have to order from a limited source and with no atmosphere it seems that the lovely lounge area is wasted in the evenings. I would also recommend a bigger TV screen in rooms for those who have to retire early, yet, not ready for sleep. All in all minor complaints and we would not normally watch T.V if a friendly bar had been in place. Even at the age of 74 it is too early to be tucked up at 9-30 pm.

It is very nice here. The staff are really nice, the location is superb. It is a 2 minute walk to Windermere and a 10 minute walk to Bowness. The lake is close. I only stayed there for 2 nights but it was very enjoyable and if I ever go to Lake Windermere again (not likely after my car broke down!) I'd stay here. The breakfast was a bit stingy but considering it was included in the price, you can't moan really. Also, you can just pick something up from the nearby towns anyway if you're still hungry. It also chucked it down whilst I was there!

Staff were all friendly and welcoming. Rooms were clean, tidy and well maintained with memory foam mattresses. Common areas were lovely with period features and a grandfather clock in reception giving the place a luxury hotel feel. Off road parking at back of property which was very helpful although did fill up quick at the weekend. Hotel location ideal for people wanting to explore the lakes as central location and easy walking distance into Windermere town (about two mins!) would stay again and recommend to others.

The hotel is lovely and we paid for an upgrade which was definitely worth the money - the superior room we had was very nice and comfortable with everything we needed, including a well stocked tea tray! There were a few marks on the bathroom floor and a grape down the side of the bed, so maybe a little more attention to detail was needed when cleaning, but overall it looked and felt clean, nothing worth complaining about. Breakfast was tasty and the staff helpful and friendly - if a little over-run on the Sunday morning. I would recommend to others and definitely use this hotel again. Thank you :)

The staff were warm, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was always delicious and there was plenty of it. The rooms were spotless - lovely pillows! Lovely sleeps after days walking in the spectacular countryside. Also an easy location for the train, Windermere and Bowness - all walking distance. We will return!
