I stayed there with my daughter on a weekend shopping trip. After a day shopping and eating out, the lounge with leather sofas, log effect fire, christmas tree and decorations was warm, welcoming and festive. We enjoyed a relaxing drink before retiring to our comfortable beds and had a good night's sleep. We checked out in the morning having had a pleasant and enjoyable stay. |

I loved the location, the lounge and ambience downstairs. There was a beautiful fireplace etc. It set a good standard and I thought the room would be as gorgeous as the building, but it was not. The staff met every request we asked for, although it was touch and go at one point whether we were going to be allowed to leave our bags. The beds were stained and the bed stand that the mattress sat on was ripped and unsightly. The room smelled of smoke when we arrived. The towels were rough to the skin. There were sheets and a blanket which meant that we were cold through the night as the heating was turned off at 11 pm. We were brought blankets but they were old and rough to the skin. |

The hotel was warm and comfortable. I aksed for an taxi at 5.50am on the day of departure and the hotel staff were happy to arrange this for me. There was always someone on duty at reception to deal with any problems or requests. |

the elmbank is just over the mount outside york, far enough from the city but do-able to the micklegate in a fifteen minute stroll there didn't appear to be any evening meal service (but in fairness we didn't ask) |

It's within walking distance to York City's tourist spots and high streets. It is also reasonably priced. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room we got was clean, comfortable and cozy. The checkout time was at 11.00am which I find is a bit too early, and late checkout is subject to fee. |

The location was good. Just a 20 minute walk from the main shopping area. The hotel has the potential to be magnificent, and probably was once upon a time, but is in dire need of a facelift. The cleanliness of the room, particularly the bathroom, was not up to a standard I would have expected. Parking is also limited. |

The location was good and gave easy access to the city centre. The bathroom was modern and recently re-fitted.Receptionist was helpful on arrival. The hotel has an apearance of being tired and dated. This was quite off putting, the public areas were not clean. Staff 'dress' was too informal. The TV was on top of the ward-robe and the ariel had a long trailing lead from the window. It was necessary therefore to stand on a chair to reach and plug in the ariel as it was un-plugged on our arrival. I have no intention of returning or recommending this hotel to friends.Breakfast was poor quality - e.g. tinned fruit |

Breakfast and location. And price! Have stayed there before and the room assigned on that occasion was much better. Therefore I know that the room I had this time is not necessarily typical. The room is was assigned was very small (single room no. 251). The decoration was tired. Shower poor. Bathroom very small. Hotel is being refurbished (I think), so hopefully will improve! |

The hotel was fine, staff were polite without being intrusive. The people in the rooms either side came back drunk and noisy in the early hours one night - but I guess that's not the hotel's fault! |

The hotel staff were lovely, but this was where the good stopped. We were there for a wedding, the food was awful, everyone on our table left their meals. Our room smelt musty and unclean, white towels were stained yellow. The room was freezing and with only a sheet and top sheet there were no extra blankets. There was no bath and this was not mentioned when booking the room. Always use booking.com but very disappointed with this trip. |

I needed to be close to York station, and this was not only close, but in a pleasant area (next to a famous school, very quiet once the school-day was over) and the online booking rate was good. I absolutely loved the decor of the public rooms, and the historical information provided which explained its architectural importance. The receptionist was very helpful and informative. The staff are happy to do tasks, such as clearing away tea from the lounge, that may not be in their job description, but which contribute to guests' comfort. The online rate was good, but booking online was difficult. The heating in the bedroom was adequate, but a little stingy. The shower was very good, but the bathroom itself was very cold. The pillows also gave an impression of economy, being on the small and hard side. The cleaner had missed a man's beard-hair in the sink, but had otherwise done a good job, and I felt comfortable using the facilities. |
