Good Breakfast Staff friendly Old apperance of hotel with lots of charater Warm rooms
Bathroom needs updating odd taps Bath panel very poor Smell from bathroom which needed water in bath and sink to cure
Lovely clean sheets. Clean room and bathroom. Tea/coffee making facilities. Basic toiletries in the bathroom. Friendly staff once they know you. Lounge full of character.
A very long 10 minute walk city centre. Better to get a taxi or a bus. Room was not ready for check in time. Not enough staff to man reception and tend the bar (long wait at bar). Poor parking facilities (way not enough!). Room really small. Bath towels really small. Chipped sink. Cracked window pane. Dirty windows (outside). Although the old building is really quaint and the lounge areas lovely, the room was noisy until about 3 in the morning.
Great location, clean room, friendly staff & good value for money. The room was nice and warm.Fresh towels were provided each day... We would stay again.
The shower wasn't great, but it was okay..
Comfortable beds. Helpful staff
Room not ready when we arrived. Was ready 1 hour after time advertised we could check in. Choice at breakfast was limited. Décor needed updating
the room itself was quite comfortable but this particular room was quite cold could have done with a much larger radiator for the size of the room we had the thermostat turned up full and it still seemed cold
Shower - either blistering hot or freezing cold. Appalling. Extremely creaky floors even when just standing brushing hair. Bland and lifeless room.
price staff olde world look of hotel
distance to town was over estimated?
The rooms were clean and I enjoyed looking out the window
When I checked in the girl was extremely unhelpful. I had a lot of luggage and a child. She watched me on her camera monitor as I wandered the halls with all my bags unable to find the room from the back entrance. Eventually I ended up back at reception. She could clearly see I had a large bag, a small bag, a carrier bag, 2 coats and a child. She directed me up a huge staircase, offering no assistance with the bags whatsoever. I find it hard to believe there was no other staff member she could call to help us. I'm sure she had a good laugh as she watched me lug the whole lot up the giant staircase from her camera monitor. It really really annoyed me and by the time I got to the room I was extremely irritated, hot and out of breath.
We always stay here, so we like everything, clean room, nice staff, great decor, love the big fire, the xmas decs, and the self service breakfast is excellent. Also easy to park.
This is my 3rd stay at this hotel and each to time the staff have always been helpful, the rooms clean with everything needed and the hotel itself is beautiful with the added bonus with the added bonus of being close to the city centre
The down side is the lack of parking facilities for the size of the hotel
It was good value for what you got and its location
The lobby and lounge area have real character and charm. It was very nice to sit there by the fire in the evening. Wifi worked well in the rooms. Room was quiet. Desk staff friendly and helpful but room cleaning staff did very poor job. Apart from showers, bathrooms very clean and bed linen clean.
Mould in shower recess, toilet not flushing well, then door lock stuck. Had to request shower be cleaned properly which it was. There was a staircase going through the room above the bed so that could not sit up in bed without hitting the ceiling. 2nd day staff struggled for 30 minutes to open door to let me into room so they then shifted me to much better room. However even more mould in shower. Requested this be cleaned but after 1 more day, this was not done. Beds in both rooms did not have mattress protectors, only single sheet so could feel buttons etc on mattress
You could not find a more stunning hotel. Reception and dinning room were stylish.
Nice location to walk into town and an impressive building, nice entrance area. There is parking if you are quick and lucky enough to grab a space!
Nothing to dislike as such, just quite basic, but what you would expect from a 3* hotel. Baby's travel cot was dirty so we used our own. Also external lights which light up hotel shone right into our window.
room was a good size, in a court yard, night staff very friendly and helpful
couldn't lock the bedroom door! bathroom had no heater but bedroom was very warm bathroom floor got wet even pulling the shower curtain across
CLEANINESS. COMFORT OF THE BED. ROOM WAS COLD. DRAUGHTS BLOWNING THROUGH THE GAPS IN THE WINDOWS.
Bathroom was a good standard. Location was walking distance to the city centre. On a regular bus route. Friendly bar. The lounge was impressive.
There was no lift. Decoration throughout needs improving. I appreciate the fact that as a grade 3 listed building there is little that the hotel can do about the lift.
Walking distance to centre of town & in a good position
It was strange being placed at the back of the accommodation as I was travelling alone.
External appearance and wood panel reception rooms
A surly reception welcome on arrival and no acknowledgement by receptionist of key deposit on departure. Musty smelling room which took 24 hours to clear by leaving window open all night. Tired and shabby hotel throughout. Our room had a bath/sink outlet pipe from other rooms right outside our window which sounded as though water was gushing into our room. Very disconcerting in the darkness at night!
Location was good, clean neat room although decoration from 80's
Staff wasn't that friendly and yes the hotel is outdated but I expected that.
Location to city centre Helpfullness & fast response to a problem with a broken heater in room. Cheerfull friendly staff.
Duvets on beds too small.Kept sliding off bed during night.
BEAUTIFUL OLDE WORLDE HOTEL, AND OLDE WORLDE FIREPLACE (LOOKED REAL) - BUT WISH IT WAS A REAL FIRE - LOVED SITTING IN FRONT OF IT! THE LOCATION WAS NOT FAR FROM THE MAIN SHOPPING AREAS & YORK MARKETS. STAFF WERE VERY NICE. ROOM NICE AND CLEAN .
THE BAR PRICES - A PINT WAS AROUND £3.50 (NOTHING SPECIAL BEER) - THIS DID NOT ENCOURAGE US TO DRINK IN THE HOTEL. THE STOPPED WORKING (NO WATER ON OUR LAST 2 DAY STAY). YOU COULD HEAR THE NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOURS SPEAKING VERY CLEARLY.
Staff very friendly. Location good.
Booked 3rooms one of these the towel rail fell of bathroom light didn't work. Very creaky floorboards in bedrooms above. No milk provided in one of bedrooms. Bedrooms extremely hot impacting on nights sleep.
