Elmbank Hotel And LodgeThe Mount, YO24 1GE York (Show map) Good, Score from 388 reviews“The hotel is a wonderful example of art noveau architecture - and in some ways is worth seeing just for that - the rooms are reasonably comfortable and the breakfasts fair value for money (though a new brand of coffee would be appreciated) - it is ideal for York city centre and is just off a main thoroughfare into York as fairly easy to get in and out of. Reasonable value for money”
Howard,
Penarth, Vale Of Glamorgan
Less than a mile from York’s historic center, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are affordable rooms and a restaurant and bar. The Elmbank Hotel and Lodge’s rooms each have a TV, telephone, tea/coffee-making facilities and a work area. A private bathroom in every bedroom has complimentary toiletries. The elegant restaurant and separate bar reflect the hotel’s Victorian character. There is an extensive wine list and tea and coffee can be taken in the comfortable lounge. York’s ancient city walls can be reached in just a 10-minute walk, with a further 5 to 10 minutes taking guests to the historic attractions, including the spectacular York Minster. York Train station is just a 10-minute walk or few minutes by car, and the Elmbank has free parking. There is also a bus stop near the hotel, with sightseeing tours going in to town. Hotel Rooms: 72, Hotel Chain: Cairn Hotels.

The hotel was not too far outside of city centre, in walking distance, which was why it was selected. The hotel itself needs a deep clean, we thought it needed more thorough cleaning, much evidence of dust around edges. We were unable to open the window, probably to do with the vegetation on the outside. The modern bathroom was beginning to show signs of not being cleaned correctly which is sad, since such investments are not cheap. We would not stay at this hotel again and certainly would not recommend it to anybody.

Only really saw the bedroom although the lounge and staircase was beautiful. Bedrooms didn't live up to the first impression. In need of updating. The bathroom was basically a closet

We stayed in the little lodges at the back so it was quiet. The dining room staff were very polite. Handy for the city. The bathroom was dirty and needs a complete refurbishment. The pillows were stained and did not have any pillow protectors under the actual pillow case. The receptionist was adequately polite but not warm and welcoming or particularly friendly. I'd suggest some further training for her.

Hotel was nice, lodge was not. Hotel was nice, but we were allocated a room in the run down lodge, opposite the hotel, so we had a very good comparison of the difference between the two. The lodge had a musty smell, we had a room, which was obviously the basement, no security over the window, easy access from outside, & we had a water leak in our bedroom. Breakfast was not included, & having been placed in the rundown lodge, we decided not to use the facilities in the hotel. Very disappointed as we could have stayed at a travelodge for less than we paid.

Very relaxing, comfortable and unique decor, in a stately home style. Staff were all pleasant and helpful, restaurant meals were excellent, although limited menu. We will definitely go back.

I was in need of a relaxing and short break away from my busy work schedule. The quiet and relaxing atmosphere of the Elmbank lodge was perfect and was just what I needed. I would have no hesitation in booking your hotel again on our next visit to York which I hope will be in the not to distant future.

Location was good for what we required. The hotel had a good atmosphere. Some of the staff could have been a little friendlier.

The Elmbank is wonderfully located. Unfortunately the hotel is not being maintained as well as it could be - investment is required particularly to the exterior. Furthermore, there is absolutely no sound proofing I may as well have been in a dorm with the people next door, above me and across the hall as I could hear every word they said, plus could follow their tv programmes.

How close it was to the race course The room was very dated and in need of a complete refurb. The bathroom & shower were of very poor quality. The main hotel appeared to be much better but we seemed to be given their worst rooms which was probably due to us booking the hotel late on a busy race weekend!?

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The decor of the rooms resembled that of a 70's porn set! The shower was also temperamental!

Reasonably convenient for the rail station. Interesting hallway. 1) Staff rather off-hand. 2) No control of radiatior in bedroom - either full blast (far too hot) or off (rather cold). 3) We were put in an annex that necessitated walking outside (in the rain).

Elmbank had poor reviews - ignore them you get a good hotel with good facilities albiet a little dated but clean. Staff are friendly give it a try. Entrance could have done with a sweep after the smokers failed to find the bins.

Its a bit of a "one off". Beautiful Arts & Crafts building. Unlike so many cheaper end deals its roomy and the individual rooms -at least the one I had- are fine. I even managed to work theTV! A slightly eccentric place but preferable to the standard Premier Inn type of arrangements with a degree of character which is lacking so much at the cheap budget end of the market . It also has a pleasant bar and all the staff were very helpful . I did not add on the breakfast this time which I remember was about £8 , nor have I eaten here in the evening. Must try next time Very convenient for Town and Racecourse too. 5P each for extra teabags and milk in the rooms seemed unnecesarily cheapscate , but perhaps some guests have taken the piss.

The room and the whole design of the hotel in which we saw. One member of reception (the blonde, yorkshire one) was very very rude for supposedly welcoming us to stay at the hotel, however the rest were very kind in making us feel at home. Also the shower was quite cold at one point, this was when the rooms around the same area were using theirs too we were told.
