The rooms and decor were very shabby and old
The cozy foyer with roaring fire and chesterfield sofas
free parking. walking distance into York.
lovely old building staff very helpfull breakfast eccellent
The only issue we had during our stay was the wife very poor connection, also a fan or air conditioning would be helpful in the rooms.
Overall the staff were very polite and very helpful, when I had an issue with the wife they sorted it out very quickly without any issues. The rooms were very clean and tidy. We would definitely go back there.
Great location - 10 mins walk into centre of York. Lovely hotel very, very clean and warm - lovely buffet breakfast and good price. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will stay again.
Hotel wasn't as nice as expected, carpet tape in some areas, so not to trip up smelt damp in areas, some walls in freinds bedroom was damp, windows blown in both rooms, hotel needs up grading. Staff extremely helpful, but this is not a good enough reason to return.
good service, excellent hotel, very clean and comfortable. beautiful inside and outside
view from my room ? over grown fern trees.old building stones dump outside room.
very peace full and quite
We arrived two hours before check in time and waited, fair enough, but rooms were not ready even at check in time. We had to wait further 45 minutes. The hotel lobby is nice and maintained but I cannot say the same for the rooms. They are in a desperate need of a redecoration. Hotel is good 30 minutes walk from the city centre and there is nothing around, restaurant opens for breakfast but we never saw it open at any other time during our short stay.
Staff definitely very polite and helpful.
Bedroom poor - no headboard on bed, carpet very dirty and heard next door conversations as walls very thin and room very small.
Good location, staff helpful and nice food.
Bad housekeeping experience and failure to make teas in a pot - a pot of hot water and a teabag you dunk yourself is NOT a pot of tea!
Comfortable bed; good food.
The pillows were awful I should have requested different ones but thought all would be the same . The bathroom was very dated but it's an old building
Made sure we were away from the young loud group staying . The room was spacious with two big windows
Dirty towels and toilet roll in the hallway, and an overall grubby appearance.
The staff was rude and we needed a cork screw and they didnt't have one even if there was a bar there? The man was quite rude when I asked for one
Rooms were clean and warm. The shower head fell into my hand. The tv and wifi was good though
staff seemed stretched trying to do too many jobs The bed was rock hard and windows very badly shut on roadside very noisey Breakfast was terrible and was going to refuse to pay for it but my wife made me Bad vibes in breakfast room More staff would have probably sorted this for a busy period
The entrance sitting area and bar areas fab The old style gallery and fireplace were superb
Lack of parking - but realise that this is a difficult issue and cannot be resolved easily. Room - too warm at night - a difficult one to manage so not a complaint.
Location; - close to York centre
Our room210 was right next to the staff entrance so quite noisy .
The hotel is a lovely building and loved the coal fire in the lobby .
Bathroom toiletries not enough. No direction from Reception to room. Had to locate ourselves
The hotel surroundings and character
Due to the paper thin walls and badly creaking floorboards we were weakened between 5 and 6 am every day as the person in the next room was up for work.didn't get a nights sleep during our stay.WiFi in room abysmal had to go downstairs to check emails.room decor old and dour bathroom smelt of damp due to a dirty shower curtain.we booked a double room but our bed was 2 singled pushed together all in all a very big disappointment would not stay there again for free,or recommend it to anyone
Location was good as was the city of york and the friendly shops york is a very nice pleasant city very clean
We booked through Booking.com, and breakfast was charged @ £8.50 each, but the hotel said if we booked direct and stayed 3 days or more we would get 20% discount on the stay and also get breakfast @£3.00 each day, we were going to eat dinner at the hotel but when we looked at the menu, it seemed to be the same each day?? , I think a little more choice would be better?. And an outside area was there to sit in the sun but diden't seem to be accessible ? .
Bed was very comfy, room spotless, and staff really friendly and helpful . And the hotel is in a nice walking distance from York centre,if you have a car it's fine if your not too good on your feet, will book again.
Noisy people in the next room.
Location, room, value!
Would definitely stay again. No faults at all.
Car parking for guests is woefully inadequate. Staff response time in the hotel bar was lengthy as they also coveted the reception desk in the evening. Tea/coffee facilities in the room were very basic and in short supply.
Fairly convenient to the the city.
Bar Service was absolutley terrible. No Wi Fi ! No atmosphere. Very little interaction between staff and clients/customers. Really poor service and limited staff.
The look of the building from the outside and hotels very 'gentleman club' feel. 3 course meal £15 good value but small choice with supplements for steak or lamb!!!
