We stayed for one night on a trip to York and the hotel was lovely! Very friendly staff, lovely open fire in the lounge, nice room, perfect location :) we will definitely be back!
comfortable big room. Electric Kettle. Highly recommended.
wifi doesn't work in our room. poor location, quite far from attractions.
lovely building good staff. good sized room comfortable. would stay again
booked over internet..bedrooms looked very impressive...given room in modern wing..looked nothing like photos on net..main light in room did not work..shaving light did not work..room quite dark..staff told
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We all had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely go back.
Very historic hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, rooms were very clean, well worth the price we paid
Was about a mile from the city centre, not really a gripe...
Lovely room, very comfy, lovely shower, great location, felt relaxed and at ease
Staff at reception were a bit vague with bookings at times, ie couldn't find paperwork to start with
Location was excellent with just a ten minute walk into town. Hotel in itself was ok. We were on ground floor, room was ok but definitely damp - on returning home my clothes definitely felt damp. Had evening meal too and it was great. Staff were very nice. Overall a nice wee stay.
the hotel and room was very nice was let down by the bathroom
The smell in the room gave me a headache the only thing we could think was the bathroom was damp there was signs on the ceiling
Value for money, place was clean,
We were on ground floor, when guests above us walked around or i believe turned in bed we heard it. Very creaky stairway and floorboards.
Really nice location and room was good standard
It may be considered trivial but there were a couple of lights in the room that did not work / were faulty. Although this had no impact directly on me - for the price you pay there should not be minor issues like this
Loved the atmosphere and character of the hotel .. Was a very homely feeling .. Would definatly recommend this hotel to my family and friends
I would have liked something more at the bathroom window ! .. The curtain was to short and I really think there should be something more there .. Maybe a blind would be better ? And frosted window .. Didn't like the curtain idea
The location The hotel building (although we did not experience it first hand, except to check-in)
When booking we believed we would be staying in either the hotel or lodge. Instead we were sent to an unmentioned annexe which resembled a garden shed from the outside and inside was not the standard we expected from the marketing info. I wrote to Elmbank (post and email) on 26 September 2014 and am still awaiting a response (or even an acknowledgement).
We thought the location was very good and the Hotel building is impressive.
Only a minor detail but we felt a bit assembly line guests, just comparing it with other places we've stayed. Poor Garson was run off his feet in the breakfast room and my cooked breakfast was eaten in parts as food became available. The pillows were almost flat.
Good location. Lovely main building and dining areas and very convenient for City.
Room in the courtyard was much nicer/larger than some of those I've been allocated on previous stays at the hotel. Will try for the same again on next visit.
Would have been nice to have a bit of warmth in the bathroom (heated towel rail perhaps?)
Three couples stayed in a block of three rooms which was great
Staff friendly, clean laundry.
Bathroom, poor grubby gouting, seals, etc.
Great location, comfortable room and more widely the Hotel.
Room good size, good shower
Quite a walk from hotel into centre of York. Breakfast not included so didn't eat there.
Atractive hotel for price
Very comfortable bed. Easy access to city center by bus. Reasonable price for what it is.
Very poor lighting in room. Need brighter bulbs & more lighting. Bathroom, while clean had mold on ceiling. Also, rather difficult to get into & out of tub/shower & very slippery. Could be a danger especially to the elderly.
We had two rooms in lodge accommodation with one main entrance
Rooms had musty smell dated decor We had young children other guests in lodges near by seemed to be outside in the court yard talking loudly for quite a bit of time after 10pm when children were asleep
Rooms can be small. No temperature control. Dated.
The entrance hall and staircase are impressive. We had a nice room with a view.
There was a problem with the shower but they gave us the key to the room next door so we could use that bathroom. The staff were apologetic for the inconvenience.
