This historic building was once visited by Charles Dickens for his public readings. It offers a Dickens-themed restaurant, light, modern rooms with private bathrooms, and a themed bar.
Score from 417 reviews Good
With a superb central location, 2 minutes' walk from Reading Railway Station and the pubs on Friar Street, the hotel offers clean, comfortable rooms with air cooling.
Score from 829 reviews Very good
Less than 5 minutes’ drive from Reading town centre, The Lawn Hotel offers free private parking. Reading’s main shopping street, Broad Street, is just 1.5 miles away.
Score from 150 reviews Good
The breakfast was very good.
There was a mistake with the booking and I was given a room of a poor standard to the one I had originally booked
Not very clean
The hotel is really dirty and smells if damp. Certainly NO value for money at the price I was charged!
The hotel offers all the basics: cheap accommodation, wi-fi, basic facilities. Some of the staff were friendly.
the room was cleaned only superficially. Shower cabinet contained inside pieces of hair and marks of mould on tab. Bed cover did not look like it was washed for a long time, although bed sheet and pillow covers were okay.
Large car park.
Old and tired. Could do with a refurb.
Good breakfast and service
Handy for a cheap, no frills stay for business. Breakfast included in the price was adequate, rooms were clean enough and plenty of free parking. For the price you pay no complaints.
Only thing I can think of is the Wi-Fi had did drop out on occasions.
food was fantastic for the price
The waiters & waitress were helpful and friendly serving us during our breakfast. splendid menu of breakfast!
the receptionist staff were a bit unfriendly especially during our time to check out.
It's a bit of a dump. They are taking advantage of the fact there is not enough budget priced accommodation in Reading. The whole place is like something from the TV show Rising Damp Shower in room was either too hot or cold nothing in the middle.
Friendly staff, good breakfast
Wi-Fi did not work smoothly
My single room was small but clean. Fine to sleep in - I wouldn't want to spend the evening relaxing there. Bathroom compact, but a surprisingly powerful shower.
Nice members of staff and breakfast was quick. Well cooked. Rooms were big and lots of space for clothes.
Toilet was too close to the shower. Bathroom door didn't lock and there was no toilet roll holder.
Very friendly staff, comfortable rooms, Ideal location.
The food was excellent, and plenty of it, could not fault the hotel and staff, a very pleasant stay, for a 3star rating I would definitely recommend
35 quid per night
The staff was nice and the breakfast was good. Was also near a bus stop which made it easy to get to the town centre. Everything was clean and basic.
The wifi was average and only worked in specific spots in the room and the facilities were also average.
Free parking Leaving in the morning
Dirty smelly room Old knackered bed, nasty matress noisey doors slamming all night Felt like a prison cell Did not dare to eat the breakfast Did not use the shared shower - dirty
Plenty of parking. Good water pressure in the shower. Great breakfast choice. Clean sheets and towel.
The walls were so thin, other guests could be heard breathing. The shower cubicle had a previous occupant's hair trapped in the corner of the door. The room smelled so badly of cheesy feet, that the "cleaners" had to leave the window open all day, which was very insecure, as my belongings were in there, and the room was easily accessible via the fire escape. The staff didn't seem to like the guests very much, and were quite contemptuous of us.
Staff were friendly and very helpful, helped me out when I had questions. Breakfast included every day Wifi!
There were huge spiders in the washroom windows It was cold, but that probably won't be a problem for most people, just me since I'm always cold everywhere.
Decent hotel for festival breakfast was good
The room was good value, the staff seemed friendly and i enjoyed the breakfast.
Having to always leave the key when going out.
Cooked breakfast was cooked quite nicely
No curtain up at the bathroom window, no information given on arrival or in the room. Floor had been hoovered but was dirty looking. Tablecloths dirty from day before. waitress at breakfast did not explain how breakfast worked. Too many other things to write here. Would never go back, not a pleasant experience.
