I am a frequent business traveller to bournemouth and the Elmstead is by far the best hotel (in its range) I have stayed (and will continue to stay) in. Charming friendly staff - including the helpful night porter. Highly recommended.

The hotel had a nice atmosphere & the staff were very friendly. It was about a 10 minute walk into town/beach or you could get a cab which wasn't overly expensive. We only had breakfast at the hotel which was very good.

We had dinner for two for £38 at the hotels restaurant. Great food. Great service! (An Italian lady) and great value. The pool, sauna, and jacuzzi was cold. The steam room needs refurbishing and reconditioning.

Even though we only paid for a standard room (with travel cot for our young child) the hotel staff gave us a very spacious family room, which normally can take up to 4 people, so that was very nice. The room and the whole hotel was very quiet at night and we had no problems at all, all absolutely fine. Perfect service, nice breakfast, nice staff, nice swimming pool. Lovely quiet road. The hotel is sort of oldish now, as many others in Bournemouth, but it was still very comfortable and I would definitely use it again.

Love this place! We do always book the cheapest room, and they tend to be a little small and tired, however, for the price this hotel is great value for money! Breakfast is really good, and the bar menu is spot on. And there's a pool and gym, which can't be bad, for the money. Always stay here when I visit Bournemouth, which is 3-7 times a year. When I used the hairdrier, the heat(?) set off the smoke alarm. It was only on for about 15 seconds. I think there may have been some dust(?) in the hairdrier which probably burnt. Still, pleased that the smoke alarm is so sensitive!

Booked the Elstead because of the Spa facilities, was very disappointed with that as the pool was cold and the steam room had plastic patio chairs in it. The lift could only take 2 at a time and was very old. Overall it was ok for a one night or weekend break but wouldn't stay any longer.

Good breakfast served by willing staff. Staff generally all helpful and happy. Bedroom and bathroom clean and well equipped. The hotel felt under invested especially in the public areas. The artwork in the restaurant was particularly awful. The leisure club felt tired too. The main lift was malfunctioning while we were there, and the second lift was tiny. The evening restaurant menu was an extraordinary throwback to the 1970's with orange juice as a starter ! Generally an ok hotel, but lacking in design imagination or any modern touches. The location is a bit of a hike from the centre of town and from the beaches.

Gym facilities were good. Breakfast - great choices. Reception and bar staff helpful and ensured we got to watch the rugby world cup match! Proximity to beach and access to New Forest area. The central heating was set too high so the rooms were too hot and the water pressure in the showers was weak. Coffee was not of expected standard.

A lovely, homely B&B, with that old-fashioned decor that makes a guesthouse especially comfortable - like going to the home of an old aunt. Good breakfast choices, including kippers and porridge cooked to order; well-located between the beach and the railway station; and a great cast of characters on staff.

The room was very comfortable even for a single. Very clean and tidy. Breakfast was perfect, poached haddock (large fillet) with poached eggs. So much other choice for breakfast. Nice swimming pool with sauna and steam room to relax in. For those with fitness in mind a very well equiped gym. Reception staff were very helpful. Overall a nice hotel would probably stay again. Used for a weekend visit to see daughter at uni.The site will show I booked a single room, I also booked a double which was also excellent. Floors are very creaky but then the building is abit older so what should you expect
