Good price for single room. Bathroom not too bad, use of kitchen. Other than noise at night/early morning, walking distance to main tourist streets, train station.
The room is cheap, the hostel's location is great and the staff is very friendly.
There was no heating as it was broken and I felt cold during the whole night.
Cheap Central Free Wifi
Poor Wifi connection Dated decor
Very central location.
There are rooms with big noise from the pub downstairs at night. I stayed 8 nights there and my room was never cleaned! The toilets never had soap!! It should be cheaper for the facilities it provided.
The location of this hostel is great! The staff were friendly and helpful. The room were ok and the showers were clean and had warm water (once you knew where the hot water switch was).
The room we had (twin in an apartment of 6) was quite smelly. It smelled a bit of wet socks. Unfortunately opening the window did not help too much. It was a bit of a shame since otherwise the rooms were fine.
Good location, just 5 min to the Royal Mile
Everything else is sixpenny. Impossible to sleep if your room faces the street (a couple of bars nest door open till 5 am, music and cheerful youngsters shouting in the street all night). Moreover you hear every sound your neigbours produce. Bad door locks everywhere. Twice I just could not get out of the bathroom and had to shout for help. The whole list of misfortunes is too long to be written here.
The hostel, University students accomodation is in the centre of Edinburgh Royal Mile festival activity. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The room is private, clean, simple and adequate. There is a single toilet and a separate shower/toilet. These facilities are shared. All is very clean. The dining room/kitchenette is equipped with microwave, kettle,as cooker, fridge etc...pleasant for sitting. (with wifi) The hostel was entirely suitable for me, a "senior" traveller.
Quite a lot of noise through the night from nearby pubs.
I loved being able to stay just a few minutes' walk from the Royal Mile for such a reasonable price. We could make our own meals too. It is very budget-friendly.
That the hostel is only available in the summer when the university is closed.
Location, kitchen facilities, quiet room
Small shared bathrooms
Location was excellent for festival, staff very helpful, accommodation was good size and clean.
Didn't sleep that well with noise but that is mentioned and is to be expected.
Good kitchen, great staff and wifi, on site laundry, and good central location.
Loud. Doors and floors squeaked and slammed making it very difficult to sleep.
the rooms the family room is not fit for a family
The location and friendly staff.
The cleanness of the shared bathroom has lots to improve. Also, the offered towels had a strong bleach smell.
The bedding and room were clean.
Right next to fringe festival venue with lots of street noise, yelling etc right outside my window. The bed was very hard. The toilet blocked up and water all over the floor. The need for four pages of information to log onto wifi. It is poorly signed and hard to find.
The location, within a stone's throw from the Royal Mile. The friendly, helpful staff. The cleanliness of the rooms
The location - in a street with seven nightclubs, so very noisy. The kitchen - untidy and needed a good cleaning out. The bathroom facilities - one bathroom for five rooms, shower washbasin and toilet in one room only.
Every thing else was good.
One has got to climb up and down to reach the hostel from its neighborhood. As senior citizen we found it a bit tough. Noisy place in first week of August.
Location is excellent, centrally located, the price is fantastic for the location, the staff was super helpful, even directed us toward free parking.
It's a value hostel so it's excellent for the location, but the facilities themselves are nothing amazing.
location was brilliant.
rooms could do with an update.
location, kitchen, comfortable, free wifi, free towel
noisy, shower booth was out of order, confused to find the main entrance at the first time
A good location for the university open day. Pleasant staff and clean facilities.
Uncomfortable beds, creaking doors and floors throughout the building made for a sleepless night.
The location is very good, right in the center of town and walking distance to many nice places. The price is also very good.
Well, it's not a hotel so I wouldn't expect the same kind of service, but the staff at the reception were a bit confused, took a long time to find my booking despite me having a print-out of the confirmation. The bed felt lumpy due to the exposed springs. An extra mattress wouldn't hurt. Lastly, there was one bathroom in my corridor (with maybe 10-12 or so rooms, didn't count), with the shower in the same room. This meant that if someone went for a shower the bathroom was busy for quite a long time. More bathrooms would have been nice, but at least I think the bathroom should be separated from the shower room.
Friendly very helpful staff. Comfortable bed.
A large family dominated the shared bathroom at peak time in the morning for an hour and a half.
Location, comfort, price (even during the Festival).
A little bit unfriendly the staff, to much work oriented. And why they don't try to understand us when leaving and ask us to pay for left luggage. Or to pay for late check-out. It is not polite. I think. Thank you!
Location, location, location. Close to all Festival venues and Royal Mile.
Location again. It's quiet in the daytime but there are many bars on the street below, which seem to be open all night. Drunks shouting along the street at all hours. Also, I wish there had been breakfast available, more than just a bun and coffee.
