The hotel is incredibly well located, the staff always on point and eager to help. Clean rooms and shower.
The rooms were ridiculously small. But the worst part were the beds. supposedly a two-persoon bed, it could only really fit one tall adult. We had to squeeze together on a flimsy and squeaky spring mattress, needless to say we didn't catch a single night of decent sleep. The other problem was the wifi: the router couldn't produce enough IP addresses, so 3 out of 4 people in my group didn't have any wifi. One of the staff then proceeded to test the connection by connecting his phone, but since it had already been connected before it didn't pose any problem. An easy way to wash his hands clean and pretend the problem were the devices. This was really a shame, since is stayed at this hotel last year and got a far better room.
Well located for my purposes. Very friendly personell. Very good WiFi. My room had a private shower and toilet. I understand not all rooms have this; I was very pleased that my room did.
Somewhat small, but I only needed a place to sleep so not a problem.
Really close to train station! Also close to some good bus lines. Going the other way, there's some good shops and decent restaurants around as well. Breakfast is ok, if hard to find down in the basement.
Like all the hotels in the area, it's expensive.
The hotel is next to St. Pancras and Kings Cross. A lot of small restaurants next to it. Good value for mony.
We had a two rooms apartment in a town house direct under the roof. The smell of the other apartments (food, smoke etc.) was penetrant. The bathtub and the sink had no plug.
Location was good and travel to and from was easy.
Accomodation was very "tired" and felt dirty and was not very comfortable. Accomodation was booked for 2 adults and 2 children (11 & 13) yet there was 2 double beds - a double bed and twin beds would have been more practical. Use of space was poor and overall the accommodation felt very cramped. Bathroom was very small and in a poor state of repair. Overall very disappointed.
Like the wifi and the tv in the room. Beds were comfortable but could have more pillows.
Mold in the room and fire safety not filled out in the room. Shared shower and toilet. Could here everything through the walls, easily woken up. Cleaning products they use smell unpleasant was tempted to by an air fresher to hide the smell. Not all lights worked and front door hard to get open. Not suitable for someone who has a lot of luggage due to steps being steep. Was disappointed by the room as they was nothing like the photographs.
+ great location + some of the staff helpful
- some of the staff unfriendly - rooms in the basement should not be offered at all - strange window design - not possible to air
We booked the 2 bedroom apartment, upon arrival we were advised it had a leak on the roof do were put in another room, which ok large enough, no offer of a refund for the room we were given which was much smaller than booked
Dirty floors, needed a really good clean, bits and dust all on the floor, not pleasant to walk on bare foot
location access to transport cleaning\room staff
room size and organisation shared bathroom was dirty needs proper maintenance
Clean, tidy room, fine location and polite, helpful staff
The room was nice, a little small, but reasonable sized TV and shower
On this site it is advertised as having parking and can check in at 11 o clock. Unfortunately neither of these are true. We arrived just before 11, and were told that the rooms wouldnt be ready until between 1 and 2. It states they have a 'secure' place you can leave your luggage, which turned out to be in front of the desk. Next we asked where the parking is. They said out the front of the hotel. This area on a Saturday is not use able without a permit until 1.30, which meant we had to wait 3 hours. On asking the hotel manager what to do he told us we could park down the road. After we had driven down there we found that there was a 2 hour Max stay, and was £4.40 an hour. Would not recommend for car drivers, as we were lucky we got a spot
shower was disappointing as you had to play around and follow instructions to make it work and then it could go to a trickle with no warning
The location, amenities and staff Michelle ...London
The room was too small, it felt a bit claustrophobic. For too fairly tall people the space was not enough
I liked the location and the friendliness of the staff who were also very helpful. The rooms were also very clean and the beds very comfortable. I was grateful for the assistance of the staff to change my room when I found the wifi very unstable in the room allocated on the night of 12 Aug, and also too small for my daughter and I to be comfortable, especially the bathroom. The room that I was subsequently given was a lot better.
I understand there is a premium on space, and thus the rooms would be a bit small. However, the room I was in on the night of the 12th was so small, especially the bathroom, that it was impossible for 2 people to feel comfortable. We could hardly move with our luggage in the way and the bathroom had barely room for one person. Also, it does get very noisy especially on the Saturday night that I was there (2 August) and from 3am till 5am, we were kept awake by a fight across the park.
This hotel is in a great spot to access all parts of London. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, albeit a bit repetitive if you stay a few days.
The stairs to reach the top, floor are a real challenge. Need to warn travellers so they can be prepared, or even request a room on lower levels. Room tiny but location made up for it.
they renewed the place for breakfast grealty improving it! loved it! the rooms are a bit small, but enough for a few nights after long walking days. it is on walking distance from several various tourism atractions and being this close to kings cross broadens the possibilities
The location is perfect. Near the tube. The room and bathroom (although shared) were very clean.
The deceptive picture on the internet. The room is minute. Although it was a double room only one cup was provided.
Very good location. Close tube access.
Unexplained charges to my account. Room extremely small. Weren't allowed check in until 6pm as our room wasn't ready.
The location near King's Cross St. Pancras was excellent for getting around London. The hotel offers free wifi, which is very cool and much appreciated.
The bed was quite small so I didn't sleep too well. The room was very warm and because it faced a closed courtyard, opening a window didn't help too much. But it's Summer, what can you really do?
Before booking this hotel I specifically inquired if there would be a secure place to keep our bikes overnight. I was assured by the receptionist that they could be kept in the luggage room.On the booking form I mentioned this agreement to make sure that it had been properly noted. When we arrived however with 2 fully laden touring cycles we were told there was nowhere to put our cycles. The duty manager basically dismissed the agreement because it was a night porter who said we could store them in the luggage room. Eventually he said we could store them outside in the back yard of the hotel. Not the best start.
A stone's throw from Kings Cross / St Pancras, so very central and brilliant for getting around London.
To be fair I was aware of the shared WC and shower room when I booked, but as it is a 'wet room', you really need to leave your room with only a towel round you to go for a shower!
Great location, right across the king's cross station. Easy to find. Comfortable bed. Not far from centrum. Small but clean.
No sink at the toilet. Had to wash hands at the room. A hole in the bathroom door. Very thin walls - you could hear everything!
No bath mat, the floor can be very slippy
Don't stay at the Excelsior hotel! The pictures on the website are nothing like the actual rooms and the staff are unhelpful. When myself and my friend arrived to the room, we were shocked to find the size of the room was nothing like had been shown in the photos online, there was dirt on the windowsill, the smell coming from the toilet outside our room was disgusting! Absolutely horrific facilities and only one out of the three plug sockets worked. We went to complain about the room and the staff member was so unprofessional, chewing gum loudly as he spoke to us. When we complained we were told we would have to wait until there was a manager there in the morning, so we checked out at 10am the next morning, asked for the manager and surprise surprise he wasn't there!! Absolutely terrible hotel, don't stay here
Reception service was excellent-we arrived to hotel a few hours before check in,but they very quickly prepared our room
