Ideally situated right in the heart of shopping and tourist area, beach and ferry. Bus, taxi and train right on doorstep. Hotel met our needs - we wanted somewhere to stay within easy reach of everything and the "basic" room was fine as there were only the two of us and we were hardly in the room. Rooms are modern with comfy bed, flat screen tv and tea/coffee making supplies, sofa, desk & chair. Ideal for business travel or short-term stay for couples. We weren't looking for luxury, all-the-frills accommodation costing an arm and a leg, so if that's what you want, this wouldn't be suitable. Discounted car parking in such a busy area was appreciated; however it wasn't easy finding our way out to the hotel at first, and it would be useful if the council helped out with signage. Great breakfast choice - although listed as "continental" there was a choice of tea/coffee, orange/grapefruit juice, fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals incl. muesli, croissants/pastries, toast, scrambled eggs, sausages and beans, all self-serve. Some people might find the distance between hotel and car park a bit of a pain, you can't just "pop outside" to the car if you forget anything, so avoid if you're a lazy type! (The multi-level car park is underground on the same site, access via alleyway next to hotel, through shopping centre and down escalators.) The room was quite small, so I wouldn't stay here longer than a few days as there isn't much wardrobe/shelf space. There is nowhere to put your suitcase - I don't know why they don't put a suitcase rack in the empty space behind the door. There is no bar fridge (not a problem for us as we never use them anyway). If I had small children, I wouldn't be happy with the location of the tea/coffee making supplies, which was on a low worktop, all too easy for a youngster to reach the kettle. In any case, it was a nuisance having to stoop down to make a cup of tea, I don't think much thought was put into this layout. The extractor fans in the bathroom were useless, you need to use the mirror in the bedroom for make-up/shaving etc.

we liked almost everything about the hotel, the location was excellent, parking was good and cheap, (all be it opposite the hotel ), the rooms were very comfortable, spacious and quite, the breakfasts were basic but nice, the staff were all very friendly and very helpful, location is everything for this hotel, and is therefore reflected in the price, very nice stay. even though the location of the hotel is excellent the prices are higher than they need to be, very expensive for what you get and the bar prices are quite high as well, a shame because we would have had a few more drinks before going out and a night cap on return to our rooms. p.s. i agree with everyone else about the lift voice, very annoying, we took the stairs most times.

Location was excellent. The Internet was ridiculously over priced considering we only used it once in 2 days and paid near 30 quid for the honour (we figured we would get it j case we needed it) and the rooms although fine and clean were no better quality than that of an etap, travelogue or similar but far cheaper hotel chain. Breakfast didn't open late enough so we missed it both Saturday and Sunday!

Good location for shops, restaurants and museums. Clean, nice room. Breakfast adequate. (Did not want a mega full English). Pleasantly surprised at car park discount. (Ensure you get your car park ticket validated.)

Parking . . Wilst using a disabled badge it is great having spaces near the hotel and yet having to return the shoal enforcement voucher back upstairs is a nuisance as it requires more walking and leaving the vehicle without legitimate proof again. Might I suggest a letter box to post them into downstairs in the entrance. I am sure it would be welcomed by your disabled visitors.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Holiday Inn at Gunwharf Quays, the staff have been friendly and accommodating and the hotel is clean. We did not have breakfast in the hotel as we went into Gunwharf Quays and had breakfast in the restaurants there which had discount when we showed our room key. I would not necessarily say the hotel was value for money and the price was quite high for a basic double room but we chose to stay there for the location and convenience of the shopping and leisure complex.

Wonderful location in the heart of Gunwhart Quays just a few minutes from so many interesting attractions such as Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, water taxi to Submarine Museum and /or Explosion Museum, ferries pass the Quays to France & Isle of Wight, ferry to Gosport to a good Saturday market and can have refreshments in Gosport Library and see lots of maritime books, other interesting buildings in Portsmouth. Can walk to Spice Island for 2 pubs with good restaurants overlooking the water and ferries. Good to see sailing boats etc in Harbour and tied up at Gunwhart Quays. Hotel excellent, clean, tidy, friendly, polite and helpful staff.

The Hotel is in a great location for a visit to Portsmouth Harbour, the Spinnaker Tower and Historic Dockyard. With the added bonus of being situated on Gunwharf Quays which has a vast choice of shops, bars and restuarants. Many of which overlook the busy harbourside and we spent many a happy hour watching the boats come and go.

The front desk staff were very nice. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who let us to our room before official check in. Clean room with the best shower in England. My only complaint was the outrageous price of wifi use, more than you would spend for a whole month at home. Come on, four pounds an hour.... Really?

Fast and efficient check in. Nice staff. No parking fees! Nice bar and breakfast areas. Comfortable rooms with tea/coffee, etc and choice of soft/firm pillows. Located in Gunwharf Quays! Turn off the loud, poor quality recording in the lift. Everyone knows when the doors are closing/opening and what floor they are on.......The hallway carpets need replacing. They are worn and scruffy and not in keeping with Holiday Inn standards.

I enjoy Gunwharf as it accommodates all my needs for a short break in the Portsmouth area. The fact that many shops and Restaurants are also very handy. The location is ideal and access from the major roads is too good to be true

It was convenient for attending a Recital at the Royal Marines School of Music as you can walk it in 4 minutes! Also the car parking was very convenient as we could leave the car there and use the eating facilities at Gunwharf Quays without having to travel. We would have liked more options at breakfast. Sausages, Scrambled Eggs and Baked Beans were provided which is more than a Continental Breakfast - thank you. Maybe bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes would be good alternatives!
