Out of season it is quiet and a lot of the shops/pubs/cafes have limited opening times. If you want a break from a busy life, it feels relaxing. The lanes can be narrow and winding, the views out to sea from Porlock Weir are great

Always somewhere to eat and drink.
Always somewhere to eat and drink. Most of the shops were open and a good selection. Easy to walk anywhere.
Locals are very friendly.
Do not confuse the Top Ship with the Bottom Ship! Same owners, similar menu and bar staff work in both. When booking a meal double check you have the right Ship

Porlock is an amazing place to visit!
Porlock is an amazing place to visit! It is old, very quaint. and quite special. It was an honor to roam the streets and check out the shops, particularly the Wortelberry Tea Room where we enjoyed cream tea, a UK favorite and now ours, and the museum. Neil and Tyrone were such gracious and helpful hosts.

Porlock is a little hidden gem in the County of Somerset, South West England.
There a so many different types of walks varying from Exmoor pony and Deer watching to exploring the wooded coombes with beautiful flowing crystal clear streams.
A walk through Horner wood is beautiful too and Webber's Post were you would almost certainly see the ponies close up.
The village of Porlock itself has 3 lovely pubs, which all serve food, plus a handful of tearooms. Whortleberry tea rooms and the Big Cheese both deserve mention.
I am a visitor to this beautiful place and find myself returning again and again to this beautiful friendly village.

Porlock Weir hotel is just down the hill from Porlock.
Porlock Weir hotel is just down the hill from Porlock. Right on the harbour front. There is a fantastic terrace by the harbour wall for eating wood fired pizza when weather is warm enough or just enjoy a drink whilst soaking up the view. There is a great lounge area. There is an informal bar area, where people with doggy’s sit. There is a lovely restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner are serviced. Porlock has lots on offer. Shops, small museum. Groceries. Cash point. Pharmacy and Miles tea. Whortleberry Tea rooms is a favourite and there is a great Cheese shop where you can grab a coffee and cake or a snack and stock up on a fabulous range of cheeses and chutneys.
Location sublime though a bit far to walk to Porlock in rain for supper. Taxi companies used succesfully though!
Breakfast was superb and all the little touches in this high end and interesting property were great. Owner Guy and Anna? went out of their way to explain everything and help make for a very welcome stay. Thank you. Views from bedroom and dining Hall outstanding.....very relaxing.
Perfect location for walking the coastal path & exploring the local area. Beautifully quiet but only 10minutes walk into Porlock to access the shops and buses. Large, fully equipped kitchen / diner, and surprisingly large rooms for a cottage. Delightfully furnished & kind, friendly owners who live locally. Really enjoyed our stay, perfect for a family of four. We hope to return!
Clean and quiet, well presented studio with lovely courtyard garden in an excellent location in the centre of Porlock. Sally is an excellent, friendly host who was welcoming and very helpful. All the facilities worked well and the bed was very comfortable. Parking was very convenient for the property and we had no concerns.
Beautiful hotel. Stayed for New Year's Eve. Owners/staff were warm and friendly. Great breakfast with lots of choice with good quality local produce.
Stunning views from the room I stayed in of the sea, village and hills. Little touches added to the nostalgia of the romance of Exmoor as written in the novel Lorna Doone.
Beautiful house in a beautiful location, only a ten-minute drive from Porlock. Lots of lovely walks straight from the house. Our stay there felt like a taste of luxury! Staff were very friendly and welcoming, and our room was lovely with a big comfy bed. Breakfast was delicious with a range of options to choose from.
The breakfast was lovely. Plenty of choices and the hot food was well prepared. The location is great. Right in the middle of Porlock. Chris and Clare, couple that run it, are very very friendly and accommodating. They allowed to check in 3 hours early!
great breakfast, cooked with care. we enjoyed our discussions with Neil and Tyrone and their advices about hikings and buses around. and Porlock is charming place, not too busy .., at least when we were there
