Southampton Airport is 7 miles away. The refurbished hotel has 2 meeting rooms with natural daylight. Nice spacious room, friendly welcome on Reception. I pre-booked the room using my Visa debit card. However when I went to check out I asked if I could pay by cash. My cash was taken but I discovered a couple of days later that the debit payment still went through on the day I checked out (4 January 2012). I have since emailed my Bank Statement for the attention of the Accounts Dep't of the Holiday Inn Express (as requested by the person who answered the phone when I queried this) but I have received no reply and the money hasn't been refunded to me. I would be grateful if this could be looked at. Sue Warne (stayed on the night of 3 January 2012)

Breakfast area needs to liven up and a better cleaning. Some (not all of them) of the Cleaning staff (rooms) unfriendly. Personally, just by looking at me they made me feel unwelcome. Reception staff friendly and helpfull. Room is of a good size and comfortable. Nice bathroom. A big free parking place.

Whenever we need to go and stay in the Southampton area we always use this hotel as we know exactly what to expect from them and they never disappoint. The introduction of the option of a hot breakfast aswell as the choice of continental was a welcome surprise, and a good addition to a hotel that already offers an excellent service.

Location for an event we were attending Staff were on a Christmas Party, so external staff had been bought in and didn't know anything! Didn't know nearest shop, nearest cash machine or how to open the bar. Beds were too soft and we ended up rolling into the middle. Lots of scale in the kettle - it hadn't been cleaned for a long time. Walls and door thin - got woken up by a family leaving at 6am.

it's good location to the Southampton cruise terminal no restaurant to have an evening meal - basic bar food to be eaten in very ordinary area with a television program on all the time. We chose to use an alternative restaurant facility some 5 minutes drive away.

Very clean, welcoming room, with just the right amount of facilities; tea, coffee, hair and body wash, etc. Functional without waste. Attentive staff: Night staff brought an extra quilt imediately, even though it was after midnight when I asked for it. Poorly stocked bar (no grapefruit juice for me and I heard others commenting on other things that were not available that would usually be standard in a hotel bar).

Very clean and tidy far in front of the Travel Lodge would recommend my stay with you Near to the shopping area but I must say the Rose Bowl Holiday Inn when we stayed there last has spoilt us

Everything was better than I expected it to be with the exception of the bed, see below for that, it was very clean, warm and dry. The shower was absolutely fabulous too The mattress on the double bed was a little soft for me, my wife liked it and you can't please all of the people all of the time can you?
