Hawkwell is a peaceful country house next to the Thames River, 2 miles from central Oxford. It has a 3-acre garden and serves modern British cuisine in Iffley Blue Restaurant.
Score from 701 reviews Very good
This hotel is close to Oxford, adjacent to the A34 and just a 5-minute drive from junction 9 of the M40. Its attractive rural location is also convenient for Blenheim Palace and the Cotswolds.
Score from 309 reviews Good

The rooms in the lodge have recently been refurbished to a good standard. The rooms are relatively small but now have a much greater feel of luxury. There is a good choice at breakfast after a workout or swim in the leisure centre!
The grounds and the hotel were stunning. The breakfast was very good. We were in the lodge which had just been refurbish and was immaculate.
The bed was too firm for us. We were above the boiler room which was a bit noisy every time the boiler fired up.
Wonderful welcome at reception considering it was a busy night with two functions going on. Our room was in an annexe so it was quiet - also lovely and warm and spacious. Great breakfast and excellent staff. Magnificent building and setting.
The great hall. Afternoon tea good.
The modern decor. Annexe sound proofing dire. Fire doors always banging closed. Annexe rooms are very small.
Room was in annex and very small. Bathroom floor tiles badly cracked. Restaurant closed so had to travel into Witney for evening meal. Felt staff were rude and concentrating on functions and had no time for guests who were not with wedding group or Xmas party group. Ordered platter for two for lunch and it only came with 1 pitta bread! Asked for another piece of pitta bread and took 40 mins to get one.
The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The bar / reception area is a very welcoming area in which to relax.
The outdoor walk from the lodge to the main hall. As an architect I think a covered walkway us not impossible to achieve whilst maintaining the aesthetics of the hall.
Checked out at midnight due to the appalling noise from the room above us. After 3 complaints to reception who where very unhelpful we had 2 choices....stay and not sleep or check out. We checked out. The room was grubby and the bed uncomfortable. I've also had no response from them to my complaint.
Location, ambience, comfort
Gloomy in the witer months
Gardens lovely, grounds well kept. Main hall decorated tastefully for Christmas, Gun Bar excellent service.
Room very small, bathroom disappointing! Room was very noisy due to boiler (according to staff) beside room. No lift in new part of hotel. Leisure facilities are poor, it is used by public and due to classes very little chance of a good swim.
although we were in the grounds in a modern lodge it was in a great location with amazing views over the pastures. The main house was like a stately home and very friendly staff
perhaps in bad weather it would be difficult to walk to the main house - umbrella's??
Loved the veiws and the building
Impressive main hall and grounds. Nice pool
The room was very small for a double.
Food - Excellent both Breakfast and Evening meal Service : Made very welcome from the moment we arrived to the time we left, couldn't do enough for us and very helpful in both directions into oxford and the best means of getting there Building and grounds : Beautiful building (both inside and out ) and surrounding grounds. Location : easy to get to, close enough to oxford for sight seeing, but far enough away from the hustle and bussle of a city, very quite and relaxing Room in the main building: Although a little dated was large enough and clean and tidy,Good large TV, Reasonable sized bed, Had a good nights sleep on both nights
No TV in the bar for the rugby Room was on the side of the building facing towards the conference buildings so view was obscured by the buildings
location reception staff
standard of room...plastic light fitting, trim fittings missing, damaged wardrobe door... sack your handy man! c/heating didn't work! room stank of cigarette smoke! lounge area taken over by wedding party! so no area for other residents staying !!
Really welcoming. The restaurant produced excellent food, which was good value for money.
The room was a little 'tired'.
Staff were friendly. Breakfast was good. Nice building in beautiful grounds. It would be ok for weddings and corporate events, but to be avoided if you want a relaxing week end.
The lighting in our room was too dim to read. It was the same in the elegent sittingroom. There was a wedding reception going on, so there were few spare seats anywhere. Our room overlooked the back of the kitchen. Even with ear plugs, the noise of extracter fans kept us awake.
The whole compound was excellent and beautifully and tastefully arranged and maintained. The approach to the main Hall was impressive. The Hall is superb and the service in the bar and restaurant very friendly and good. The swimming pool was excellent and well maintained.
Standard Bedrooms were on the small side but sufficient for a short stay. The leisure facilities shower and male changing room could have done with more regular cleaning.
location historic public rooms food friendly staff good value for money
dining room service one night, but were compensated
Service was outstanding, nothing was too much.
Given a twin room when double booked, so after getting to room had to then go back to reception to swap.
Great staff! We booked a two night stay and had a problem with the room on the first night. The next morning, the manager and staff handled the issue promptly and professionally and we were upgraded for the second night. We can't speak highly enough of Eynsham Hall and loved our stay.
The setting and imposing nature of the driveway up to it and the main building itself , you feel like you are going somewhere special whether it be for that weekend away or for a longer break .There are excellent spa facilities with the pool , sauna and gym and acres of grounds to stroll around. It is a short drive to ring and ride for Oxford, Blenheim Palace or other areas of the Cotswolds. The buffet breakfast and other meals on offer are excellent so whats not to like .
Nothing really as rooms in the lodges that show signs of dating are being refurbed on a rolling basis it seems.
The restaurant and bar were great, also Bruno the waiter was very caring for all the guests. Very pleasant surroundings and a lot nearby to do and see.
The room had a layer of dust on every surface and there was no shelves or space in the bathroom to put any toiletries.
An amazing location, with wonderful gardens and grounds. when looking out of your bedroom and sitting in the lounge we felt like the lord and lady in their mansion. Would defenatly revisit. Real value for money
Lack of a lift
The setting. We were on a rushed overnight to a delayed flight and would have liked to stay longer. Might come back and see it properly because the grounds looked gorgeous and the hall itself was full of character.
No lift to our room but it was a last minute booking and we were happy to get one.
