Fairmont St Andrews, ScotlandKingask, KY16 8PN St Andrews (Show map) Excellent, Score from 157 reviews“Excellent location. Very comfortable accommodation. Walking coastal route is good only if you have appropriate footwear. A good pair of boots are required, and prior knowledge of tidal times would have been helpful, as we had to turn back to hotel.”

Firstly the position of the hotel is fabulous and the views breath taking. It is however what it is, a hotel focused totally on golf. There is nothing else. The spa treatments and rooms were very luxurious but the pool area was more municipal baths than top hotel and I wouldn't want to spend alot of time there...perhaps that is their intention! Our stay was very comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful but would not return without a golf club in hand! See above. Fantastic as long as you love golf !

Location and surrounding scenery was very good ,comfortable Hotel with lots going on ,thought the restaurants were a bit expensive although food was very nice ,and waiters very attentive ,but dont expect to pay £45 for a bottle of wine ,that kind of spoils things . Regards

The bedrooms are comfortable. The staff are very helpful. The views are superb. The Spa is not up to the standard of 5* Hotels. The "gourmet" restaurant is not really operating at top level.

Was a nice location Was expecting something older - most Fairmont's are old railway hotels or converted older structures - so was a little disappointed that it was like being inside a Marriott or some other big conference hotel - but I guess for guys who want to play golf, its a great location.

The value for money, the golf courses/facilities, the spa, the relaxed atmosphere and the regular shuttle service into St Andrews town, which means you don't feel captive at Fairmont. Also, the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We usually go to Gleneagles for a break of this type. However, for the reasons stated above, we will be going back to Fairmont instead. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It's quite impersonal but still friendly. Thought the room prep had gone downhill - a bit dusty and toiletries not replenished. Hotel was quite full with plenty of staff but courtesy bus stopped at 6. Taxi was very expensive at £13 for a 3-4 mile trip. Complaints are minor but we've stayed here often and did notice a difference.

We found the Fairmont to be wonderful! We stayed only one night and wished we had booked 2. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. They had a shuttle bus to take you the few miles into St Andrews which was helpful and saved finding parking. The spa facilities were lovely - we didn't have any treatments but used the sauna, steam room and swimming pool. The restaurant was good value - £25 for three courses - scallops beautiful but a bit frugal! The strip steak was to die for and a huge dessert to finish. The Christmas decorations were quite magical. Breakfast was very good. There was a self service buffet with everything you could want to eat. They had someone cooking eggs for you or you could have an omelette. The pastries were Fisher and Donaldson but unfortunately I had no room! We took a walk around the golf course before we left. It was quite bracing as there was a gale blowing but the scenery was lovely. We can't wait to go back! If you want to treat yourself, this the hotel for you! There were quite a few young families at the hotel and we found the pool to be quite noisy. We could not use the jacuzzi as the children were all in it! A few people allowed their children to run up and down the corridor at night and it was near midnight before they stopped! Having taken my children to hotels int he past we would never have allowed them to behave in this way , but I suppose it takes all sorts!! Don't let this put you off going to this hotel though. We visited in the Christmas holidays so we expected children to be there and didn't really spoil the whole experience.

Lovely room - staff generally good Delayed check-in as room not ready til 4.30pm (should have been 3pm according to booking.com) and reception staff were not very apologetic. The pool is ok - but jacuzzi was broken down and no appointments were available for spa treatments, so limited 'spa' experience

Beautiful setting with a relaxed atmosphere and fabulous facilities. Suprisingly welcoming to families with young children but large enough to cater for couples looking for a romantic break too.
