This picturesque 17th-century inn is in Stratford-upon-Avon, a 10 minute walk from the train station. The Shakespeare Hotel offers 4-star accommodations, free Wi-Fi and charming rooms.
Score from 495 reviews Very good
In a Grade II heritage-listed building, this historic hotel has gone through a £3 million restoration project, yet still retains its original features, open fires and wonderful antiques.
Score from 748 reviews Wonderful
The location was perfect. The building was a mixture of tudor and modern in the right proportions. Parking was included.
Mid week stay was quiet, but with the room directly above the pub it may be very noisy towards the weekend. Rooms at the back of the Hotel are probably quieter. Rooms 300 and upwards are in the tudor building.
Nice to be in the old part of the hotel rather than the new - v.atmospheric! Great for 1 night only.
The price of staying in the old part of the hotel is small rooms with sometimes very small en-suites - e.g. Room 318's en-suite was tiny!
The staff were very friendly and polite. We were given a beautiful room for our anniversary. The room was excellent. The reception area was lovely. Thank you.
The main bar in the front was not as cosy and comfortable as other areas of the hotel. The fire was not lit and it was freezing outside. It looked a bit like a holiday camp bar. Sorry.
Everything we would defiantly stay again.
There was nothing we didn't like
Charming venue, great location. Food good but expensive
Delayed room availability. Allocated room then found occupied. Staff not briefed on how pre-theatre dining worked, post theatre dessert & coffee shambolic
Great central location within walking distance of amenities.
The location close to the theatre and Stratford centre Parking Sitting in front of the fire in the old lounge General feel of the place. Wifi now extended through the hotel.
Poor quality coffee - weak. Obvious dirt traps in bathroom not cleaned eg pipes along wall next to toilet - very visible when sitting on the toilet! Staff with poor English - asked for Earl Grey tea with teabag on the side as I like it weak. Got pot of tea with 2 teabags already in it (only one of them Earl grey I think) and hence strong tea! Breakfast buffet scrambled eggs were rubbery and inedible. Everyone was avoiding them so they just sat there getting worse and were not replaced because not empty when the staff checked them!
location food car parking friendly staff fair cost
noisy corridors and bar downstairs no soap /information the room despite asking no net curtain on bathroom window overlooking the street
Staff were very friendly (a bit overworked in my opinion) but they were all brilliant from the receptionist to the barstaff. Very engaging with the customers. Bar is very good, very warm and cosy.
Double bed was split so there was a ridge in the middle. Parking was very tight and I only just managed to get the last spot.
The (very) olde world character.
Lovely position for going to RSC and exploring Stratford
Our booking included breakfast, which we had but on paying were charged for cooked breakfasts and told our booking only included continental breakfast. Wee felt this ought to have been made clear at the time of booking as we ordered cooked breakfast assuming this was included, not unreasonably!
Location, comfort, value for money in a very popular destination. Nice bar and lovely log fires at this time of year in pleasant intimate lounges.
The cheaper rooms are obviously not in the old part of the hotel and I guess if you want to "live Elisabethan" you should ask and will, I guess, pay more.
Executive room was a nice size Car parking
Breakfast is a ridiculous price so we went to an excellent cafe in town instead
Good location, handy for theatre and restaurants.
Room was a bit chilly as the heating was not on and there were no blankets in the wardrobe.
Location & parking Good breakfast Friendly & helpful staff
Hard mattress Evening menu was same on both nights
the staff as always friendly helpful and polite = has a wonderful history to the place and very easy to get into the town from here yet quiet
Staff friendly. Food good.
Water not warm enough for a bath.
Friendly staff. The garden. The location. Good value dinners comfortably in time for the evening performance. Free parking by the hotel.
The room was very small, which we didn't mind, but others might. The light wasn't great for reading.
location warm bedroom great breakfast value for money (special deal
a little noisy (street) bed was a little hard
Very pleasant staff in restaurant and bar. Breakfast supervisor particularly attentive and friendly.
Not a severe criticism but reception staff could be more attentive to guests . They are polite enough but are very wrapped up in the technology. There is no incidental acknowledgement of guests if this makes sense. A small point in an otherwise excellent stay. Thank you.
Nothing to dislike
Great room, lovely bed & great bath. Good view too.
Noise of a generator starting early in the morning.
Good base for our visit to Stratford upon Avon for a wedding. Central & only 10 minutes from the train station. Lovely, spotlessly clean room & a fabulous hot shower! Staff friendly & helpful!
Great central location, nice large rooms, the block at the back of the hotel was very quiet at night, good parking facilities.
There's no flexibility in the cancellation charges - we had to miss the first night due to a car problem and the standard rules and charges remained.
