Falcons Nest Hotel  

Fantastic location and very friendly and helpful staff. Would definately book their again. The view from the conservatory resraurant was to die for. Was on a family holiday buit could see the romance potential.

The outside of the hotel and some of the corridor decor is a bit tired but this should not put visitor off. It's a gem.

I had business in Douglas for a week but as the Youth Commonwealth Games were on, this was the only bed anyone could find in iom (at any price). I had to rent a car but the drive from Port Erin to Douglas took less than 30 minutes and there were very few queues. As far as the hotel was concerned I was pleasantly surprised, not be used to two star hotels. The room was perfectly adequate. The full english breakfast was just fine (the manx kippers were to die for). The bar was the only place with wi-fi so privacy was not too easy in order to skype home. The bar meals and those in the restaurant were good value. A little gem really!

Excellent staff - very helpful, Breakfast had a good selection of full cooked or cold buffet. The wifi worked well in the bar area. They considered where our rooms were positioned so that we could put older children in one room and ourselves in another, yet close by.

Sea view not quite what I expected, was not a full view on front of hotel for paying Superior Room. Did not detract from holiday.

The staff were very friendly. The room I was allocated was a twin, very spacious, clean and with a sea-view. Breakfast was good. Happy to stay there again.

We liked the location and the staff were obliging and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had a little problem with a fan not working shortly after we moved into our room and with an inside bathroom with no window, it was a bit of a nuisance as naturally steam cannot escape. We reported it and were offered another room the next day as engineers were not working. It was a nicer room and we found that a satisfactory solution and were pleased that they handled the situation with the minimum of excuses. We enjoyed our stay there and would book the second room again and will probably return next year. The Hotel is good value for money for a ** and we thought the breakfasts were "The Business" Ha! We have stayed in accommodation with a lot more stars and not enjoyed it as much.

Quite dated and old fashioned

The location of this hotel, overlooking the harbour of Port Erin, is brilliant. Having toured the island and seen the other towns and villages, we concluded that we made the right choice by staying in Port Erin. Our room, one of the four superior, sea view rooms, was reasonably spacious with a huge picture window affording an excellent view. Port Erin is a small town with local shops and the hotel also serves as a popular local's pub. The bar is to the side of the hotel and doesn't intrude into the hotel side of the building. There is another bar that could be described as the resident's bar although it is open to all. The large conservatory along the front of the building makes excellent use of the hotel's commanding position, while the high ceiling in the restaurant adds to the grandeur of the Victorian building that it so clearly is. There were plenty of staff on duty and keeping the place clean is obviously a management priority. Towels were changed daily and were big, fluffy and spotlessly white. Breakfast was excellent - freshly cooked and plentiful.

This is not a 'hotel chain' type of establishment. There is plenty of painted anaglypta wallpaper and the room furniture was mainly pine. The door to our room was thin ply that allowed any conversation outside to be easily heard. The cracked tiles in the bathroom and the dated bathroom suite seemed to go with the homely feel of the place. The laundry on the first floor (opposite side of the corridor to the superior rooms) emitted such a strong smell of soap powder that it made me sneeze as I walked past. The smell didn't permeate into the bedroom, even though the laundry was so close by. That said, our room was very clean and warm. There was good selection of beers but the food in the restaurant was ordinary and adequate.
