Breakfast is excelllent
Room was a bit dusty
We stayed in the Ruby room, and loved it! Lovely location close to the river. We enjoyed the restaurants and the sites in Durham. We went for a morning walk and jog along the river and then had breakfast in the hotel - best croissant I've ever had!!
Location cleanliness food and staff all a credit to get be hotel . Loved the themed rooms something a bit different from the normal .good value for money
We arrived in Durham for the University Open Day and received a warm welcome from the staff who were very attentive. My daughter and I enjoyed a delicious meal in the restaurant of fillet steak and the vegetarian tagine. The breakfast of eggs benedict was fantastic and a great way to start a day of University trekking.Chocolates in the bedroom were a nice finishing touch.
Only downside was the pillows were not the most comfortable, the shower rail in the bathroom was pretty rusty and it became apparent that the thin walls enabled you to hear every word of fellow guests conversations which woke us up in the morning.
Excellent hotel. Been wanting to stay for ages and were not disappointed. Lots of nice little touches.
Excellent. All I would change is the background music.
I stayed in the loft suite and it was beautifully decorated and it had the comfiest bed i've ever slept in. The breakfast was always lovely. The hotel waa right in the centre easy to get to the shops and the cathedral. I Definately recommend staying here if you go to durham for the night.
A quirky hotel with interesting decor and friendly staff. Great location for exploring Durham
No car park, so had to pay to use public parking. Found some at 60p an hour.
Stylish room which was extremely comfortable. The staff could not do enough to help and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was very, very good. We will definitely go back
location near to city centre
occasional banging of doors but this quietened down at night. Paying to park car
Durhams great Gadds a very nice freindly hotl
Hotel very quirky and original through out all public areas, whilst having a cosy and homely feel. Our room, the Express, was very well thought out with great attention to detail. Staff and owner very friendly and welcoming. We had a fantastic stay, would and will definitely stay again.
The only critism I would have is that we would have liked to have been able to check in slightly earlier, but no big deal. Also, if staying here, bring plenty of £1.00 coins for parking.
Bedroom rather cramped
Loved the originality and quirkiness. Friendly staff.
Would be nice to have an out of hours room service...potential for up selling here!
Location breakfast very good
Excellent central accommodation .. Beautiful room .. Lovely extras ... Fantastic sole use of hot tub... Beautiful bathroom and amazing power shower. Comfortable bed with quality clean bedding .. Excellent food and drinks ..
Staff at breakfast inexperienced !!! A smile here and there too would have made a difference. A better hair dryer in the room ...
So friendly and helpful .. Staying on my own.. They allowed a friend to join me for breakfast with no notice .. Kindly didn't charge .. Super staff.. Amazing location.. Steak was fab ..
Chips not quite triple cooked..they were attentive in dealing with it
Each room had a theme which we liked. The breakfasts were very good with lots of choice. Didn't have an evening meal at the hotel but the menu seemed good.
The only problem is the parking, having to feed the parking meter but it's clear on the booking form that this is the case, so it was expected.
Gorgeous hotel in a great location, room was fantastic & staff were very pleasant. Would definitely stay again/recommend.
Only slight negative is that although the terrace for the hot tub is a private terrace it is overlooked by 3 windows so it is not entirely private
One of the receptionists was extremely welcoming and very helpful( don't know her name but she has a relative in Morpeth).Food good and reasonably priced.Great decor with themed rooms-a breath of fresh air from the bland ,corporate look of so many chain hotels now.
Ringing in advance of arriving (due to changes in circumstance) these guys couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. When we did finally arrive, the welcome was wonderful - this set the tone for an amazingly hospitable stay. The room (Ruby) was just as described; a lovely mixture of opulence, style and comfort. Even with incredibly warm evenings, at the height of summer, the aircon unit was up to the task. We ate in the restaurant first night, enjoyed it so much, we ate there a second night - good food with a sufficient variety of wines to suit courses. Breakfast, maybe a little slow on service, but freshly cooked local produce, fresh fruit, pastries - set us up for the day - perfect. So, in order of excellence - staff friendliness, comfort, food, wine, location - in fact, it's difficult to say which was better.
There were builders next door when we sat outside for afternoon tea and strawberries . . .nothing to do with the hotel, so moot as to whether this is relevant
Me and the hubby stayed in the Edwardian express. The 2 receptionists that were there during our stay were lovely. Our morning breakfast was fab!!!! 10/10. The lady who served us was so warming and welcoming, She called us angel all the time, did not catch her name but all in all the stay we had was fab!!!
The bed was really creaky and kept me awake all night nearly, as every time me or the hubby moved the wood would creak. Also it's not good if your on the tall side like me, and like to sleep with legs straight lol, that's the only bad point I had
pillows were lumpy! arrived for breakfast at 9.30 and felt our full English breakfast had been cooked an hour before, had to ask for our eggs and bacon to be redone!!
we had a garden room , which was very peaceful, and a hot tub ! we had a very good dinner in the restaurant, Very easy to walk into the sights in the city centre, good location
the breakfast was a bit of a let down , a packet of Alpen let down the decadent style of Gadds town house, We would have liked a pot of tea , rather than a tea bag each
The breakfast was really nice and the location was ideal.
The sheets were stained and had slight tears in them. (Amytheist room).
