Lovely people work in reception and dining room . Superb dinner. Wonderful breakfast - included. Free wifi. Room furnishings. Complimentary chocolates. Near to city centre but quiet. Easy (street) parking. Nothing negative! Unobtrusive Jazz FM not to all tastes but ok.

The location was good and the décor is wonderful, the staff were very helpful. Very nice stay thank you. My only complaint was the smoked salmon and scramble eggs for breakfast - very small amount of salmon and no lemon or butter served with it making it very dry.

Loved the room, hot tub and the complimentary hamper. The meal in the restaurant was fabulous. Although we thoroughly enjoyed our stay we were disappointed that work was being carried out in the adjoining room which started at 9am in the morning....check was 11am.....I think for the sake of 2 hours the work that was being carried out shouldn't have started until then

Individual rooms in a small hotel with charm, warmth and great character, A true "Small luxury private hotel" Superb in house gourmet restaurant best in Durham. Outstanding personable staff especially the current manager,Natalia. Having to check out of just a 10 bedroom hotel by 11 am when check in is 3 pm and they were not happy for me to stay until just 12!

My room was lovely & well stocked. The staff were helpful & brought breakfast to my room on my birthday along with a card. Although centrally located, the road was quiet. The hotel & my room was pretty dark, which made it slightly creepy! Could do with more light in reception & in corner of the bedroom where the hospitality tray is. My room was not clean when I arrived - the carpet had blonde hairs on it, champagne cork & other rubbish under the desk chair, which was disappointing. This was rectified the next day. The reception staff were efficient & polite, but not very welcoming. Felt they were just doing what was expected of them, and not really enjoying their job.

The lady who served breakfast was very friendly and accommodating, the staff were attentive and helpful. The room was quite small compare to what we were expecting. The attention to detail was not up its five star rating and price.

Thought the building and room was lovely, breakfast was nice with a good selection There was nothing I didn't like however we did have a few issues during our stay. One of the blowers in the hot tub was broken which wasn't that much of a big deal but we also had an incident in the middle of the night that started around 1pm with the lights outside the cabin flicking on and offfor an hour and a half, along with it lighting up the room every minute there was a loud bang Everytime it did. We rang reception and they sorted it straight away which we were greatful for but in the morning I didn't feel like we were treated the way we had hoped. At the reception she did not seem that bothered and said she would get the manager to ring us and see what they could do to compensate for what had happened which we have not recieved a phone call yet. I just feel for the amount we had paid we expected more of a reaction, we understand faults happen but it could of been dealt with in a better response, It may put us off coming back to the hotel or suggesting it to friends or family as we went on recommendation that we would have a nice relaxing time which didn't really happen as we were woken up so didn't get much sleep and didn't feel relax so instead of going in to durham as planned went home as we were restless. As for the below question at the moment I would recommend durham but maybe not the hotel or if I didn't I would explain about these faults

We liked the friendly hospitality we received from all staff at The Gadds. Food was excellent. Also very clean. Housekeeper was very professional as were all staff. Room was a little too small for us. However very unusual.
