The White Horse is one of Britain's oldest inns and has tasty food, good rooms and a traditional pub. It is ideal for walks on White Horse Hill and The Ridgeway.
Score from 63 reviews Very good
The attention of the reception staff. The wyndrush room was spacious and the decor fitted the age of the property. The lighting of the garden at night was very very nicely achieved.but nothing that could not be achieved at home.
The food in the restaurant was classed as fine dining. We say over priced and to much like Heston(Blumintwit)??? There was no draught beer although it was shown as such on the beers and wine list. It was in a bottle and warm. The bottle of table water along with all other drinks was over priced!
Pretty much everything. Highly professional and polite staff, large comfortable room overlooking the lawns with a good large bath, and superb food - make sure you eat in the restaurant! Also a very good and interesting wine list.
Can not fault this hotel
- Staff were friendly, helpful and provided 1st class service - Food was of the highest quality and presented and served in an excellent manner, and therefore worth every penny - Hotel and Garden was lovely place to relax and chill out.
Nothing comes to mind!
when I came to pay they insisted that my first night that was offered at 99 pounds had to be paid at full price 299 pounds this was very disappointing I would like you to resolve this and get my refund regards Mrs Flack
food (both dinner and breakfast), room (room 8 is very romantic and to be recommended), location (the hotel advised us a very beautiful walk by the Thames)
the young children from Asian were a bit jetlagged at dinner in the evening (but the staff managed very well)
Everything, we were looked after superbly - nothing was too much trouble. Every member of staff was really friendly and approachable, we had a lovely couple of days. Our evening meal was beautiful, true fine dining and cannot recommend it any higher.
We have nothing to say here as we loved everything about our stay.
From the minute I walked in to fallowfields, I was greeted by a really lovely man named James. Nothing was too much trouble and he managed to cater for all of my needs. The rooms were beautifully decorated, and the location was really peaceful. Sadly I was staying there on business, so I couldn't appreciate all aspects of the hotel. I will definitely be returning for a few days with my partner.
It's not a criticism of the hotel but, getting a taxi is an impossible task. The first day I couldn't find one to come to the village, so I ended up having to walk 30 minutes, which made me late for my meeting. The second day, it cost me £20 for a 1.6 mile journey, because the taxi had to come from oxford. Had I not had a lot of luggage, I would have walked again, but in the end, I had to hand over the £20. It would be helpful to have known this before I arrived. In fact it's such an issue that, I would put it in small print on the website.
quintesential english with 'rich' menue.
not for business people.
Staff were great, we were given bus timetable on request which helped us so much and we especially felt the young American lady who looked after us at breakfast was brilliant on our stay, very friendly and welcoming, we really enjoyed talking with her.
Just that we had large suitcases and there was no lift to get them up the stairs. But well worth the effort for the stay, nice peaceful place.
First Class Service, food & drink Lovely location
Wifi quite poor
Friendly staff, apart from one lady in the restaurant, who obviously had a different attitude towards some of the middle class, more regular customers Food was excellent but expensive Elegant lounge/dining room and good quality furnishings Lovely peaceful grounds
Unfriendly lady in restaurant Shabby furnishings in one of the bedrooms booked Cost of food
Friendly and helpful welcome, room quality, ambience and decor
Shower took a minute to warm up, but now I am being picky!
Atmosphere, hospitality, accommodation, food and drink excellent.
Lovely staff, super food, quiet location
The personal service and the freshness and quality of the food.
I thought the cost of the room was excessive compared to other hotels I've stayed in
Overall look and feel. Bathrooms were a nice size. Bedrooms comfortable.
The shower screens. The hotel is small with no sizeable reception room. The location is neither remote nor in a village - so is not perfect, but still in a nice rural setting.
Good-sized room, good produce used for breakfast, very quiet location.
Flies from the "farm" in which it is set. No cold shower or toilet water (due to refurbishments?) for a whole day, but no real apology, drink or gesture about the inconvenience.
excellent service, friendly welcome, good location, quiet place, easy distance to Oxford, ample free parking, free Wifi, good breakfast (freshly cooked), gourmet restaurant
you will need a car
