Food and service.
Room a little dark but only to be expected with all the beams in the room. Could have done with better lighting in the bathroom and a mirror on the bedroom wall.
Friendly, helpful staff, food options and good quality.
Nice and relaxing place the food was excellent a couple of new dishes on that night we stayed which were very good. Lovely to see a place so busy
The hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly. The food was standard pub fair. The views from the hotel were stunning.
The hotel décor was rather dated and could do with some freshening up. Also whilst sitting in the dining room you got a strong smell of food being fried, in fact the smell permeated the whole of the down stairs.
Everything! The food was incredible (recommend the belly pork and roast duck! And the full English brekky was perfect!) the atmosphere was very 'homely', the staff were all very polite and attentive to our needs. Overall I would recommend this to anyone. Upon arrival we were first greeted by the gorgeous views in the car park. After a few cheeky pictures / snaps, we entered the Farmers Arms and were welcomed warmly by the owner. He showed us to our room (watch Lee Evans before going, the bit where he goes on about houses that go 'up and down, then up and back down again!'... Sums the place up well). Very quant, very old but with the required modern updates and refurbs that make it a truly spectacular place to stay. We shall be visiting again soon! :)
Not really a dislike at all... More a recommendation, 'watch your head!!' The low beams and door frames are something to consider if you're 6ft or above. As I said, not a dislike as it adds to the quant feel and 'qwerkyness' of the place.
Food OK and staff friendly and professional. Good location for accessing the Lake District for walkers and working people wanting not overpriced accommodation and good food. Lack of exclusive private lounge areas means less suitable for visitors wanting somewhere else to relax other than in their bedrooms.
Bedrooms in need of an update and some maintenance but keep basic and simple. No more cushions please. Main problem was flies! Flies at mealtimes, evening and breakfast. Flies in the bedroom and even flies in the hotel office. Hope it was a temporary issue but not nice. Did not find any flies at any other establishment visited that same week in the Lake District.
Accommodation needs a little attention. Good choice of food. Evening food better than breakfast. Friendly staff. Knew the farmers from years ago; slate floor is now polished, sealed and spoiled and lost its old appeal. Personal choice.
Tired bathroom with hit and miss water temp for shower.
The situation of The farmers Arms is Ideal for touring / walking the Southern Fells. The Staff were friendly and helpful.Good evening menu and great breakfast to set you off in the morning.
I had a single room which was large enough, but the single bed was not very comfortable.
Friendly staff. Hearty breakfast. Good menu selection. Rustic comfy individual rooms. Great place to escape. Love it. Booked to go back.
If you don't like noise avoid room 1 as it's over the stable bar.
oozes character.....good location. excellent food. exceptionally clean.
The flies which ruined my evening meal, fortunately the food was very good.
breakfast comfortable single bedroom
noisy as I was directly over the bar only one toilet/ shower and bath room that I could ascertain.
Excellent food. Very good welcoming staff.

Good buzzy atmosphere. Excellent food- evening meals and breakfast. Value for money.
Lack of residents' sitting area- residents' area in reception was too often reserved for people coming in for meals, resulting in nowhere for residents to relax.
Excellent food and really nice atmosphere. Shouldn't have eaten both nights but it was so good with lots of pleasant people. Fantastic walks and the view from the car park north was worth painting.
Room was out of the seventies but then at £35 a night? Could do with a couple less rooms and making them en suit.
the food and staff were excellent
Charming, comfortable, great food...good hearty full English breakfast with cereal if you wished and evening meal was very good in restaurant, reasonably priced. Better quality food than your average pub classics, lots of locals regulars and visitors enjoy the food here. Low door ways and sloping beamed rooms add to the charm.
We stayed at the farmers arms for 2 nights, the place itself is very nice old but in very good condition, I love old places anyway. Our first night we just ate in the restaurant and the food is to die for. I had the lamb and my husband had the steak. Both were absolutely divine, we were both so stuffed that neither of us could eat the next day till 1.00 in the afternoon, highly recommend to stay here or just go for a meal very high quality and high praise to there chef never tasted lamb like that in my life. Defiantly worth another visit even if it's just for a meal.
There was nothing about the farmers arms not to like.
lovely country Pub, very attentive staff and great food. everything you would wish for when staying away from home.
The water pressure in the shower was extremely lacking.
The friendliness and patience of the staff. Good food at very reasonable prices. Huge portions. Clean and comfortable rooms. Beautiful location.
My frail, very elderly mum found the steps of varying heights very difficult to see and climb. It would be helpful if the step edges were highlighted - but we appreciate this is a very old building.
Friendly staff Good food Ample parking
Not suitable for anyone who has walking difficulties
Beautiful view from bedroom window
Too short a stay!
