Walking distance to town centre. Helpful staff Very good breakfast Nice room Very clean Parking on site
The breakfast was very good and service quick yet unobtrusive.
This was a really convenient location because we could walk easily to the town centre. We had a car and it was easy to leave the town to head for the dales etc. Breakfast was good each morning.
We had a lovely meal in the restaurant downstairs BUT the noise above coming from the breakfast room was dreadful and really spoilt a great but expensive dining experience. There was very little effort made by the management to interact with clients---a pity!
very clean and comfortable hotel, staff very welcoming breakfast good choice rooms very spacious and the en-suite too
Great location just 10 mins walk from both the station and the city centre. Loved the Victorian feel - this is no chain hotel. One of the staff was particularly helpful and offered me the office computer when the internet didn't work and I wanted to check the train times. Lovely quiet location and polite guests meant that I had a very peaceful and relaxed stay - no screaming children, music or undue noise at breakfast (or any other time). I'd definitely come here again.
The internet wasn't working, and the member of staff on duty when I checked in didn't appear to know this even though I found out the following morning from his colleague that it hadn't been working for weeks. My ground floor room suffered from the creaky floor upstairs early in the morning with guests getting up early. Maybe better to have an upstairs room if this would bother you (it wasn't a real problem for me). Breakfast was OK with a big choice of cooked food, but the scrambled eggs were watery and tasteless (and I imagine pre-made, not to order, given the speed with which it appeared), and the coffee was weak, if I'm going to be picky - both easily remedied with a bit of effort!
The rooms were clean and tidy. Plenty of storage space and good facilities.
Everything! Comfortable beds, lovely bathroom,TV in the room, good breakfast.
There was nothing to critise.
Great staff, very good breakfast. Nice room. Good location, walking distance to city center.
Bit noisy, could hear upstairs footsteps. Wifi was troublesome. Minor issues, though.
Staff and breakfast
Wifi not always on or working
Location lovely views of Durham from our room comfortable spacious clean huge bed beautiful building lovely grounds
Breakfast was not the best
Clean look when walking into reception. Nice decoration in bedrooms Quiet location.
Breakfast, not enough tables for number of guests, therefore double sittings required, sadly the tables didn't get cleared efficiently and were full of dirty crockery to greet later guests.
The room was quiet and spacious, and the shower was excellent! It was a lovely place to stay after a long, exhausting day of travelling. It was easy to get to the city centre (just under 15 minutes' walk), and there is a bus stop nearby as well. The restaurant was not open on the day I stayed, but breakfast is included with the stay. Tea-making facilities in the room, which was convenient. Very near the train station, but a bit of a hike (given the terrain) if you have a lot of luggage! Given location, room, and helpfulness of staff, a very good value for the money!
The room could be a bit cleaner (a few small things in the room and bathroom), but the bed and linens were very clean and fresh.
Room and en-suite very clean, fragrant aroma when we walked in. Location was good for Durham, just a 10 minute walk into the centre, and very close to the A167 for travel to Chester Le Street for the cricket.
Didn't enjoy the cooked breakfast, will give it a miss if we stay there again.
Wifi signal was a bit weak, but it only made us enjoy the scenery more!
Not enough outlets but I figured it all out.
Spacious and comfortable room. Friendly people. Very good wi-fi.
Clean and spacious bathroom with huge bath and loads of hot water which was noticeably soft compared with the hard water in the south. Exceptionally good restaurant beneath Farnley Towers called DH1. Nearness to city centre.
Uphill climb back to Farnley Towers from city centre. Bedding could have been more upmarket and the valances were a little grubby.
Nice place to stay.
The uphill walk from town.
Farnley Towers was fine. Room was squashed for 3 children and they hadn't put out extra cups or towels though a family room was booked. This was rectified on request Durham out of term time seemed like a ghost town but not the fault of Farnley!
Service at breakfast.
Pillows uncomfortable and affected sleep adversely.
WiFi and the Hill back.
Room was very comfortable.
Breakfast quality was ok but measured (one sausage and one rasher of bacon) The room I had had windows at street level. The bathroom only had frosted glass and the bath was under it. I was having a shower when someone walked past. It was very disconcerting.
liked the location. breakfast was well cooked. staff were obliging when dealing with complaints.
very poor wifi-( not in rooms just hall way) breakfast was poorly organised with some people having to wait in the hall, and then not a single order was correct. room had not been hoovered, there were no towels in any of the rooms.
The staff were all very lovely, warm & welcoming & went the extra mile for me when I found myself in a bit of a pickle after having my bag stolen at a Friends wedding with everything including my room key, return train ticket & credit cards in it. They did not rush me for check out & ensured I had facilities to cancel my cards & call police etc. Kieth Jones was lovely-he made me cups of coffee & was very helpful. I stayed in a single room which had a very cosy bed was compact but peaceful & comfy & good value for money & the english breakfast was yummy. would definately recommend as a budget hotel in a wonderful city.
We had a super room with a huge bed.Very quite. The staff were excellent.
A bit slow at breakfast poosibly due to everyone arriving at the same time. The food itself was excellent.
