Very good,
Score from 449 reviews
“ Superb and comfortable room Excellent food Great staff Lovely building Location was perfect, 5 min walk to Durham shopping district, 10 min to Cathedral. Beautiful scenery, a very hilly neighborhood. River walk also a 5 min walk away. Close to train station, taxi was only 3L, or a 12-15 min walk. ”

Friendly staff. Good location with parking. Cooked breakfast good. Good quality bed linen and towels. All a bit grubby. Needed a good vacuum, changes of table cothes, good sweep and mop of dining room floor. Room 7 noisey as student occupied room above and floor insulation poor.

Good character to the building. Breakfast was really good and staff were friendly. No lounge or sitting facilities after being out for the day. Even the sitting area in restaurant was very small.

Quiet. Breakfast portions big. Attached restaurant, "Gourmet Spot", provided interesting, tasty food. Combination of heavy duvet and hard pillows made sleeping difficult. Quite a hike out of town. Breakfast coffee tasted like instant.

The Hotel is set in lovely surroundings. My room had lovely views to Cathedral. Lovely room. Fantastic Breakfast Steep Hill from City Centre - £3 taxi so not bad. Bar is closed on Sunday, would of been nice to go back and sit and have a drink

The location was lovely and the hotel itself was fabulous with old classic features and furniture. Very traditional and welcoming. The walk up the hill to the hotel was a bit much after walking around Durham for a few hours.

Even if your room doesn't have a view, you can enjoy one from the breakfast room which is a lovely place to wake up. Beds are comfy and my room was clean and fresh. Staff were helpful and available. Calm, quiet location - (just a long way up the hill if you're walking). The shower water pressure was quite low when using hot water. The ingredients for the English breakfast could probably be better sourced.

Room was spacious with fantastic views of castle and cathedral. Food was great. Shower was wonderful. Not a warm welcome. At checkout time rang service bell several times then the chef came out and said he would get someone. The person that finally came out didn't seem comfortable with the checkout payment process.

Lovely old building, great location 10 mins walk to city centre. I think I must have been in an un renovated room, like a 70s travel lodge. Shower head broken, stained furniture, shiny pine. Oh and a note to brekkie chef, change your sausages, mine was revolting.

Decent sized room, nice outlook, cooked to order breakfast, clean, good shower. Firstly, this is not a hotel, it is a guest house. The description of a few minutes walk to the centre of Durham is totally misleading, as it is a ten minute walk down a very steep hill, and back up it again !! Also the king sized bed was pretty much a standard double and very soft.

Beautiful bedroom and bathroom, warm, well equipped and very spacious. Excellent Service and a good cooked breakfast. Ate in the specialist restaurant the evening before and the meal was impeccable and very good value. Would like a sitting/room/bar sitting area as well as the bedrooms, but you cannot have everything!

Farnley Tower is a substantial Victorian property, with much of that period still intact, but, of course, with all mod cons. Very comfortable room and good en-suite facilities. Good Breakfast, served in a grand looking room.Farnley Tower is on a quite road, a short walk away from the City centre.
