Score from 1006 reviews Excellent
Staff and location were excellent. Facilities also of a high standard including the breakfast.
I thought the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It was a great value for the money. My friend and I were very happy with everything about it and would definitely stay there again.
Extremely helpful and friendly staff would definitely recommend it, handy for the town and clean. Liked the ponytail theme the gentlemen were working!
parking facilities breakfast service everything really as above
a bit too far from centre and places we needed on foot and up a bit of a hill but realise parking facilities better as not completely in centre mattress a bit bouncy but definitely not uncomfortable -- my husband kept moving but not really your problem!
A large , comfortable room with a good view. Friendly and polite staff.
Friendly, attentive staff.Good location for foot access to Durham.Free car parking on site.
Poor/non existent WiFi signal, though no real problem for such a short stay.
The hotel is close to the town although up two hills. It is a lovely building with very good views. The bedroom was fairly big. the breakfast was efficiently and quickly served.
Nothing really - room was too hot but this is standard in hotel rooms
Our room had a great view, it was a good size and very comfortable. The breakfast was good, staff very efficient. One of the best things about the hotel is the restaurant a further 3 minute walk up the road, Bella Mama...excellent in every way!
The place is let down by the noise of banging internal doors, creaking floorboards in the rooms above and the poor wifi connection.
Friendly staff, comfortable room, good breakfast, good vale
Unfortunately WiFi wasn't working, other than that no problems at all.
The man checking us out on the Sunday morning :)
spacious clean bedrooms, quiet location, nice views
did not see one member of staff our whole stay except to check in and take our order at breakfast. front door key jammed and we spent 20minutes trying to open it with no help from anyone at 1am locked outside in cold weather, no taxi would pick us up from the tower as was close to durham stating it would cost more in fuel to collect us- very steep hill and 15minute walk into durham. small breakfast- took a while for to take our order, not enough seats for all guests. No one on reception on morning when we checked out so couldnt discuss issue with front door
A beautiful hotel in a lovely location, overlooking Durham Cathedral. Professional and very helpful staff.
As a vegetarian I would have liked a choice of croissants for breakfast. I did ask a couple of times, but ended up eating close to nothing for breakfast.
Good location for Durham city
Location, friendliness and helpfulness of staff, excellent value for money and proximity to the fabulous DH1 restaurant .
Friendly, quiet, great view from breakfast room, prompt and efficient service.
Characterful building, large and light bedrooms, superb location away from the hustle as bustle of city, yet still within easy reach of everything. Breakfast was marvellous and the service was superb. A real find! I will be coming back!
Location, Friendliness, cleanliness. Comfort. Room size. Parking.
Was unable to log onto Internet. Breakfast stretched the available staff who were all pleasant and helpful but who struggled to cope with the numbers arriving all at once.
Comfortable bed, large desk, fast wifi, spacious bathroom, nice breakfast, car park, a short drive into the city.
The breakfast was not good - microwaved croissants!!, warm, not hot, food..... Check in was confusing - minimal staff
Good location in Durham and the breakfast was excellent. Room was generally ok for a single
Booked a twin and got a single. Bedding was a bit yellow although clean. Restaurant is not part of the hotel and was closed during visit. This is more of a B+B as they have no control of the restaurant and facilities are basic although ok.
Views over city. pleasant to stay in an independent establishment Small hotel in building with character, rooms individually styled.Staff helpful, pretty dining room. Good value for money Ample parking Would have liked to try the restaurant as menu looked interesting( weekly closure the night we visited)
A few small quibbles only. Beds a little too soft, lighting in bathroom too dim Traditional breakfast a bit lacking in finesse for an aspiring restaurant - sausage bland, baked beans should have been omitted; coffee rather tasteless , dining room rather cramped at breakfast when all hotel guests present at once
Friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, a fabulous freshly cooked breakfast, an excellent location and great value.
Wifi - a bit clunky and slow
DUSTY,needs decorating.POOR Quality breakfast.Not clean.Is not worth £90 a night.No curtain in bathroom.Would never stay again.
I really enjoyed the stay, its a lovely old building and the staff were more than helpful, its a very peaceful location and the view of the cathedral from my large lower floor bay window was fantastic. A very characteristic and quirky hotel and I look forward to staying again. Excellent parking and remarkably close to the centre of Beautiful Durham
wifi was a little week in the room, (excellent in the communal areas) although not at all bad.
