Uncomfortable bed. Boring breakfast.
A good hotel; welcoming staff; spacious, well-decorated rooms; ample parking; well-cooked breakfast.
Beware Room 7! Apparently the rooms on the top floor of the hotel are let to two students. On our last night we were awake until past 3.57 (the last time we looked at the clock) due to the noise from above. The floors are a bit creaky but the occupant of the room was constantly walking around the room, with the occasional bang / louder noise ... just in case we'd managed to drop off to sleep! There is no access for the public to the top floor, a door marked Private, or we would have tried to speak to the owner of the room. Not a very happy end to our time in a very lovely city. We did mention this when we left, we hope it was acted upon.
WiFi didn't work, only ever saw staff at breakfast so no one to ask why it didn't work. Rooms tired and needing an upgrade
staff were friendly and polite.
toilet disgusting. finish around bath like a child had done the job. room smelt damp and unaired, beds tatty, squeaky and rattling headboards. as you might expect from a cheap b&b. I stayed in room 5
Limited bar and no snacks for late comers.
Room is was big enough and bed comfortable.
Temperature setting for the shower was not constant (fluctuating between hot and cold). Breakfast buffet was quite light but the English breakfast does compensate this point.
Beautiful surroundings, comfortable and clean. Helpful staff ... It was a pleasant stay and will definitely think of coming back some time
Very good breakfast and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The bed needed replacing. It was very old and rickety disturbing me constantly throughout the night.
Lovely building, big rooms, nicely furnished, free wifi, cheap.
Nothing to dislike.
Staff friendly, extremely good night's sleep and nice breakfast in bright dining room.
Walk into town is fine if you're fit but is located uphill so would probably advise to get a taxi if you struggle walking. Room nice but carpets a bit jaded.
The room and view as usual were amazing, including the staff.
The hotel itself and the breakfast were great
I didn't realise that it was a pet friendly hotel and not being very pet friendly ourselves being in the room next door to a noisy dog was not great! Also the walls were very thin indeed and the bed soft. We did have a pleasant stay though and the staff were great!
Friendly staff Fantastic room with a great view of the Cathedral and a super big bed
Sausages at breakfast
The room was tired and dismil, the bed mattress was that soft it was like laying on a marshmallow, the toilet roll holder was on the skirting board in the ensuite, the breakfast was awful and the dining room was full of students who kept going in and our of the kitchen and coming out with food, couldn't wait to leave, wont be visiting farnley towers again
Didn't like the bed, had a lot of roll together
The best part was the view from the room window over durham and of course the breakfast.
The bed quilt cover was stained with dried body fluid and as reception was closed when we were going to bed we had to wait until the next day to get it changed.
Really clean and comfortable
Couldn't log onto wifi with code in book
Room Bath Beds Breakfast room
Distance from station and town. Local tourist map omits the paths that provide a direct walking route from hotel down to Prebends Bridge and up into the Cathedral South Bailey. Shaver light was not working.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Warm rooms & comfortable beds
Lovely breakfast in nice setting. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Room felt more basis than described in the advert and some items didnt work so we had to be moved. However, second room was much nicer1
Nice old building, very friendly manager and staff. Room was a good size with all the right furniture and a good sized flatscreen tv. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice.
Decor was a little bit dated and could do with a refresh in parts. Fitted the style and era of the building but it would benefit from upgrading as it looks a bit tired certainly in the room and bathroom - or maybe going the other route and making it really contemporary. Either would work but would perhaps appeal to different clientele.
No bar or lounge
spacious room with high ceilings, great views over city centre. good breakfast.
The shower rail collapsed and hit me in the head ??
very friendly young staff and large, clean and comfortable room.
