“This is an extremely well presented and friendly hotel. The attention to detail e.g. a fridge to to replenish your own milk and water is impressive. The welcome was first class, warm and accommodating. I would recommend this as a place to stay.”
David,
Hatfield
This elegant 18th century country house is situated amid the quiet of the Somerset countryside, yet within reach of the M5, just 5 miles from Taunton and Ilminster. Farthings overlooks the village green and enjoys 3 acres of private and peaceful gardens. With a wonderfully relaxing and informal atmosphere, it is the ideal place in which to unwind. Privately-owned, the family and its experienced staff invite guests to savor the warm hospitality and superb locally sourced food, cooked and presented in the AA Rosette-awarded restaurant. The restaurant has direct access to the gardens, where drinks and canapes can be enjoyed on a warm summer's evening. In winter, enjoy the comfort and warmth of log fires in the cozy lounge or bar. Each of the 12 rooms, with private bathrooms, is tastefully decorated and has all the facilities one would expect of a delightful country house hotel. Reception was first class. The young staff were polite and helpful and the amenities agreeable. It was evident that the aim of the establishment was to put guests at their ease and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The meals were fair only and over priced. This includes the breakfast. It would not be our wish to eat there again. As far as food was concerned, value for money was not good.

Very friendly and helpful. A really lovely warm and tastefully furnished Hotel. A really good breakfast. The only thing we could find fault with was a constant hum which seemed to come from the kitchen when in use, which they cannot do much about I suppose.

All the above ticked ratings, especially the kindness and politeness of the staff. The cost of the breakfast and evening meal was prohibitive - not competitive with local rates. Had these prices been more reasonable we would definitely have eaten there.

Small and friendly. Convenient to Taunton to Bridgewater canal which we were cycling. Continental Breakfast had very poor selection with only cereal toast and juices. Where were the crosissants, cold meats etc.? Not good value for money. Food service between course very slow but worth waiting for.

We had a fabulous suite - much bigger than expected! Pleasant surroundings, sympathetically decorated. Lovely. The continental breakfast was a little frugal.

We thouroughly enjoyed the pampering of the staff!! Always checking that we were satisfied with our food and that we had enough alcohol! What more is needed when you and your friends have gone away for a relaxing well fed and watered week-end!!

The rooms were very well presented with a very comfortable bed. The charge of 36 pounds for a vegetarian meal which was only a pasta and wild mushrooms in a sauce plus two other courses was too much. The bar charge was 6 pounds for one gin and tonic...In my home town I can get two for three pounds fifty.

Well appointed and friendly young staff, plus open fire in lounge Food was very expensive so we dined elsewhere, and the bed was very uncomfortable - mattress was old so it had a ridge down the middle

Our booking was upgraded so that we stayed the two nights in 'Magnolia', a delightful room with large en-suite and a walk-in closet. The continental breakfast selection, although certainly adequate, could be a bit broader and made more interesting.

Lovely hotel, room beautifully done & very comfortable. Quiet village location, ideal for somerset inland tourist visiting. Would suggest they lower the price of the dinner. We would have eaten there, with our guests, but thought the prices excessive. This is gourmet only with no alternative.

Lovely location, only saw one member of staff who was very nice and helpful. On the night I stayed the hotel appeared to close at 10pm and as I was not due to arrive back from an evening out until after that time was told to let myself in through the front door which had been locked.I Think I was the only guest in the hotel that night so as a lone female traveler found the experience quite unsettling. Not sure if the hotel closes at this time at weekends or when busy. Apart from this a lovely experience and would recommend
