A short walk from Ludlow town centre, The Charlton Arms provides attractive rooms and fine dining on the Ludford Bridge. This Shropshire pub is just 10 minutes’ walk from the medieval Ludlow Castle.

Location, size of room, friendly staff and clean
location was very good. and the hotel was very comfortable.the staff were very pleasant and helpfull, and the bedrooms are very spacious
Great breakfast and our waiter was very attentive. He also suggested local places to visit such as the bell tower on church, great views.
Room could do with a good clean
The bar and restaurant area were great. Breakfast was really lovely and the staff are very polite
In our opinion the room needs updating.
Fabulous room, great setting. Ludlow is a lovely place to visit and this hotel makes it that bit better
I liked the feel of the hotel. You were made to feel very welcome. Didn't feel rushed at any time
The Buildings history and charm. Quality of service & friendliness of staff.
Room was great. Food was too. Lounges w fireplaces were phenomenal! Atmosphere was lovely
Staff at check in and in the restaurant seemed to care less. Check out reception was kind. Wifi was dodgy but glad to have some.
We loved the cosy guest lounge on the first floor with the open fire. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel, but it was only a 5 minute walk from the castle and plenty of lovely places to eat.
The bedroom was fairly ordinary and looked out over the car park. Tea for 2 in the lounge was quite pricey.
Location, historic areas, breakfast, bar staff, breakfast staff, spacious room
Slightly tired corridors, poor soundproofing. Everything in the room was clean and worked but it was quite old (looked 80s style). Not a problem as such for the price I paid but I might have been more concerned had I paid more.
Always accommodating, best location for the town and a beautiful building inside and out. We love the authenticity of the old building when walking across the bedroom we found ourselves going downhill and the undulating corridors were also testament to its age and character. Also, although we were right on the roadside the room was really quiet.
The pillows were not comfortable particularly for one with a neck problem - and the loo paper could have been softer and stronger.
Everything, especially the food
The bed was uncomfortable: too hard, but we both suffer with our backs!
That we hadnt booked to stay longer
Beautiful hotel, one of our favourite towns.
Quite expensive but what the hell, once in a while!
The location is ideal, being in the town centre and with parking - a bonus. The hotel was comfortable and quaint, and the bedroom (found it eventually by going along several corridors, up and down stairs and through seven fire doors) was clean and warm. Staff were helpful and efficient, though not especially warm and welcoming on the day of my visit.
My overall impression was that it needs some updating in terms of furnishings and pictures, and I haven't seen sheets and blankets on a hotel bed for years. The food on the night of my visit was rather underwhelming, and breakfast, in a dark corner of the restaurant, was not a very sympathetic experience either - a little disappointing considering the cost of the overnight stay.
Very pleasant stay in a wonderful old building, loved the period furniture and atmosphere. Staff helpful and attentive. Would definitely stay again
nice staff, in town, wonderful upgrade that I didn't ask for. Lovely hotel, open fires, comfortable, would go again
bedspread was torn
The guests who decided to use their spa bath at 3:30 in the morning!
We always stay here in Ludlow, but like different rooms each time. Our four poster was very comfortable and HUUUGE!
The staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. The beds were warm and comfortable and our rooms were spacious
the bar area on the ground floor was very squashed and quite ordinary only redeeming feature was the beautiful roaring fire
The food was delicious and the entertainment fantastic
Nothing about the place
The room was filthy, dated and dirty
- hotel frontage - James 1st Room - location in centre of town - the history of the place
- elevated toilet in bathroom with 2 steps up was dangerous in the dark at night - grouting around the bath needs re-doing - did not look nice - common areas were cool/cold (OK it was winter) - could do with a bigger bed
Very friendly and attentive staff. Really good food.
Location is brilliant, half minute from centre of town. Wonderful characterful building Friendly and welcoming staff Good parking.
Expensive for the condition of the flagship bedroom, which is well overdue for a makeover. Unnecessary notices. Poor general condition, eg bluetac not removed from walls. Slow service at dinner, though breakfast was good. Up drinkable coffee at breakfast.
