Fernhill Hotel  

Location is convenient for Lyme and Charmouth and easy access to main road for other areas. The staff were so very friendly, couldn't do enough for us. Small and personal surroundings. Lots to eat at breakfast.

Expectations of the breakfast were high but the bacon and the poached eggs were seriously over cooked. The bacon was like leather. Shame as everything else was OK.

This is the best hotel we have ever stayed, indeed! I warmly recommend it for anyone! One can feel that the owners put their heart into it and sincerely do their best to make a very comfortable and pleasant stay for their guests.They are personally very nice people and have helped us a lot with our questions, finding proper bus connections and so on. Upon our arrival, they have kindly offered us tea and cake, and that was for free! This lovely hotel is situated in a picturesque place within a walkable distance to Charmouth beach, one of the best places for fossil hunting. Famous Lyme Regis is also not that far. Besides, a bus stop (Jurassic Coastline X53, bus 31) is just in front of a hotel: very convenient also for those guests without a car. As foreigners, we are sincerely interested in English culture, and have been very pleased to find lovely English interior in the Hotel with fragrant fresh flowers. Also, a delicious typical English breakfast is served (with lovely music), what we wanted to try and liked very much. Again, only local products are used, what gives an opportunity to try real South English food. Our room was very cosy and clean. There is wifi Internet connection for free. Very helpful, one can borrow DVD (feature films, popular science films (Jurassic Coast, dinosaurs)) and play them using an installed DVD player in a room. Finally, the hotel is green tourism awarded, what we find an important detail. Summing up, if we come to Dorset or East Devon again, we will come back to this very lovely English hotel without any doubt! Once again, we feel this hotel has been created and is being run with all heart.

Meals Service

The room was extreamly cramped and the bathroom was no larger than a phone booth. Anyone on the large side or infirm would find great difficulty using it.

It was a very comfortable hotel in a convenient place. The swimming pool was pleasantly warm. It was in walking distance of Charmouth and the beach. Good spot to go fossil hunting. Also buses if you didn't want to walk or take the car. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and made us very welcome. The hotel itself was comfortable and very clean. If the weather hadn't been so bad the grounds would have been lovely to explore.

Stay at this hotel!! This is a lovely hotel, very comfortable and the owners and staff are so helpful and friendly. Excellent service and if you needed assistance, the staff were always on hand to help. The facilities are 1st class, from the dining room to the bar. Room was very comfortable and well maintained. Thanks for a great stay - it made my last night in England perfect.

The location was well chosen for sightseeing along the Jurassic Coast. The hotel management & staff were most accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Extremely helpful with information regarding local visiter attractions.

The restaurant menu is restrictive and the chef has a tendency to overcook food (this last statement also applies to breakfast). There is a need to retrain the restaurant staff in procedures, with special reference to wine & tasting before it is poured for the other party(ies)

Clean, food

Spa bath ridiculously small - a small bath with some air outlets. Swimming pool closed. To us it was just a very expensive bed and breakfast. This was definitley not value for money at £170.

The hotel is situated just off the main road but set back in it's own very pleasant grounds.lt is very quiet and peaceful. The staff are excellent,, very polite well spoken and extremely attentive. An ideal place for visiting Dorset for both coastal and countryside. The bedroom was a good size and the hotel provided a bowl of fresh fruit which was a nice gesture. Food was very good although l didn't like their crumble it was far too dry.

L found the bed very uncomfortable as it was far too soft.

Wir haben sehr kurzfristig dieses Hotel gebucht und waren über das gebotene Service mehr als überrascht. Das Hotel ist ein wahres Schmuckkästchen und hat eine exellente Küche. Ebenso die Bierauswahl ist toll und das Personal sehr, sehr freundlich. Die Zimmer sind sehr sauber und sehr gepflegt eingerichtet. Das gesamte Hotel besticht durch einen sehr gepflegten und sehr sauberen Eindruck. Wir haben den Abend hier sehr genossen und können es nur weiter empfehlen.
