The room was very comfortable and it was nice having a seperate shower as well as a bath. The staff made every effort to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We ordered room service on our second night, which was disapointing as the food was cold when it arrived and missing part of our order.

The location is perhaps the greatest asset of Five Lakes Hotel. Tucked away in the countryside it offers the chance to really get away from the hustle and bustle of life and lost oneself in the tranquilly of nature. The grounds are well kept and the lakes, conveniently located, are welcome attractions to what would otherwise be just an ordinary golf course. The design of the lake nearest the building offer guests that rare opportunity to relax by the water's edge and succumb to the temptation of feeding the aquatic fauna. It would be a good idea to install a coin fish and duck feed dispenser at this location as I don't think bread is ideal for fish food. Overall I think Five Lakes is particularly designed for quiet relaxation and romance for the older members of our society. I was disappointed in the fact that the hotel provide scanty information about its own facilities and attractions and, more so, no information about other attractions within the nearby areas/locations. As near as Tiptoe was, nothing was said it. It was as though Five Lakes exist in isolation of adjoining communities. I discover the zoo in Colchester by chance and a nature reserve for birds by accident. I am sure there are others but just had not the time to play Christopher Columbus. These info, as a form of handbook or pack, should be placed in every room.

As I didn't want to have a room outside in the 'village' (having to walk outside in the rain during the evening in an expensive dress to get to the party we were attending) the receptionist changed it to a room within the main building without question - excellent! I then spoke to someone else at the party who had stayed in the 'village' accommodation and though she said it was really nice both of her dresses were soaked simply walking with them over her arm having first checked in.

There was no hot water available in the room after 6.30pm on the Saturday evening. I therefore had to have a lukewarm shower.

Very limited room service menu, used a limited selection from the Restaurant Menu. Then charged a tray charge of £5.00. I have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels and this was the first time I have been charged tray service fee Bar Service was poor, table service just did not happen. Bedrooms look like they have been refurbish and were very comfortable and the queen size bed was very comfortable as well. Breakfast - Very limited menu from the help self service buffet, tea pots used as milk jugs, no salt and pepper had to go and find it from other tables. No choice for guest if they wanted fried eggs etc and of course no Breakfast Menus.

Wondedrful room. fantastic staff and service, nothing too much trouble including facilitating early entry to our room to attend a nearby wedding. The tea was AWFUL. I think the hotel was using long-life milk. Shame, since everything else was commendable,

Room was clean, modern and comfortable. No restaurant available, hotel was undergoing refurbishment so had to use brasserie where food was of a good quality but took an hour and 45 mins to have two courses due to extremely slow staff. Staff were friendly and helpful, just painfully slow!

A good meal. Nice views. Beds had comfortable mattresses. Well designed shower room. Quiet location. I did not like the pillows - very thick! poor night sleep. Unfortunately swimming pool was closed during our stay, so we only stayed one night (had booked for 3 nights) Further out of Maldon than had realised, because of the winding country lanes.

The room was clean and well appointed. Very modern with lovely views overlooking the golf course. Staff were very pleasant The hotel is undergoing some renovations which are a little disruptive and do spoil the overall ambience of the hotel but it was a minor inconvenience really

Major improvement since my previous visit. The standard of the rooms was very high, with a extra large comfortable bed. Staff were very professional and nothing was too much trouble. Food in the brasserie restaurant was very good. Pool is not designed for doing length swimming, and some of the gym equipment needs updating, and possibly a few more machines. Breakfast didnt live up to the same expectations of the meal the night before
