The hotel is located right in the city centre. In the 3 days I spent there, I didn't have any issues with noise or anything else really. The room was very nice and comfortable, and the staff were great.

Colchester is a brilliant town to visit, you have the old and new part to walk round ranging from a good collection of shops and food outlets to browse and walking round the various churches, castle, monastery ruins and lovely parks.
The town is within walking distance of both train stations, taxis are plenty also. Take a good pair of comfy walking attire for feet as you will be walking up and down gradients!! A great place to visit on the local bus is Manningtree where there is a antiques emporium to walk round with a great cafe in the high street for food.
If visiting Colchester for the first time I recommend staying at least a minimum of 4 days as their is a lot to see of interest. Lots of charity shops too!!
For families do visit Colchester Zoo which is a great day out, this can be reached by bus also if you do not drive.

Colchester is a gem.
Colchester is a gem. Lovely architecture and sights, good cafes and pubs, shopping and eateries. It's not at all dog friendly, though, which is a big drawback if you ask me. Come on, Colchester, Britain loves its pets!

Colchester castle was a good part it was interesting to see Colchester's history. The castle Park is a great place to go and sit and relax take a picnic and have a stroll around. I only stayed for 2 nights but would of liked to stay longer to take a proper look around
The rooms where comfy and decorated with a homely feel. The location and car park was very convenient. Not many hotels are a walking distance to town and have free parking. Staff are friendly. I personally think the bad reviews were not to do with the service but discrimination. This hotel definitely has potential and I feel like the staff are working hard to make it Better. I think the improvements that need to be made are reflected in the price a it’s very cheap compared to other hotels in the area.
I liked the location, the people working their are super nice, as well as the building and the old style. I liked the style of the hotel from the building itself to the furniture but you will like only if you like traditional old styles. I don't recommend it to someone who like fancy super stars hotel. not because it is not nice but because they will put bad reviews because it won't meet their expectations
1. Location is at the heart of Colchester. We arrived by National Express bus and the stop is just 3 mins walk to the hotel.
2. Room is modern and comfortable. Bathroom with shower and modern too.
3. This hotel has a lift so really love it as I was travelling with heavy luggages.
4. My room comes with hot bfast at The George. Simple but delicious bfast with amazing atmosphere of The George.
Location was perfect. Right near the high Street with pubs and restaurants. Chosen for its closeness to the Colchester Arts Centre where we attended a gig. Lovely hotel, quirky little room in the Stable block with a comfy bed. Very friendly welcoming staff. Continental breakfast with plenty of choice. We would stay again if we come back to Colchester.
Bit concerned about booking a hotel on the High Street because we normally goto a country hotel but glad to say it was perfect, location was ideal for mooching round Colchester town. our room was comfortable with air-conditioning, the bar staff were friendly, we ate in the restuarant and the food was lovely.
Student accommodation made available during the summer holidays, located on the Uni Campus.
As such, it is a bit bare-bones but good value for the money.
Essex Uni Campus is on the outskirts of Colchester, dorms well clear of busy traffic. Parking and public transport on site.
The location is really good. 100m from the castle on the high street. The room was spacious and was really clean. The balcony was useful and had a good view over Colchester.
The breakfast over the road in the George Hotel was tasty and there was plenty of selection.
Lovely pub and hotel. We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed it. Our room was lovely and was perfect for us. The bed was one of the comfiest I’ve ever slept in!! Really friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely go back if we go to Colchester again!
Good facilities in the hotel and restaurant prepared good food, including an excellent breakfast of porridge and eggs benedict. Bed softer than we like but comfortable. Good location for centre of Colchester. Nice welcoming atmosphere of teh staff,
The staff were so friendly and helpful! They upgraded our stay which was amazing!
The hotel it’s self is beautiful and clean. The food was to dye for!
Location is perfect, just right on the outskirts of town and right next to Colchester castle.
The location of the place.
Loved the building too
and the beds and room, loved that we had out own door to the main road so we didn't have to walk to the reception as we were round the back of the hotel.
We stayed for our son’s graduation. This hotel is perfectly located for this event. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was a busy week for the hotel but it was always quiet and peaceful.
Lovely hotel with lots of authentic features. We stayed in room 7 with the four poster bed - beautiful room.
Fantastic location in the heart of Colchester.
Staff were OUTSTANDING.
This was the perfect place for a visit to Colchester. Conveniently located for the town, super comfy room and really warm, friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend a stay here.
Situated on the A12 just outside of Colchester. We stayed here as it was a short ride from our daughter's Colchester Zoo and on the route to Braintree Shopping Village.
The hotel itself is great, I travel for work to colchester and frequently stay at this Holiday Inn. Always a great stay, great parking and brilliant location.
