Lovely setting in village, pretty bedroom and well appointed en-suite. Excellent breakfast Booking in after 6pm, we expected, from the website description, that we would be able to get an evening meal on arrival, and spend time relaxing in the bar but the pub had closed at 5pm. It closed the same times the following day too - very disappointing! Also when we left and I went to find someone to take our room key, it was accepted by a cleaner with thanks, but we were not told we would need to see the owners to arrange payment for our stay, so I presumed that the debit card details given when we booked online would be used automatically. I was quite dismayed to find a message on our answerphone when we arrived home saying we had left without paying ! It left a bad impression both of us as customers, and the whole booking process. From the hotel owners comments, we are not the first to make this mistake it seems - GET IT SORTED!!

The chef who greeted us when we arrived and his cooked breakfasts. That their description of the rooms did not match up to their reality. Bedlinen is lauded in the website, yet two of the four pillows in both rooms had no cases; our curtains did not shut as they were broken; there were several stains and cracks on the walls and ceilings; there was ingrained dirt around the shower fittings. ( We have photographic evidence for all this). Generally both rooms were very tired, drab and cramped. We had arranged for three friends to join us for breakfast. There were very few guests, so this was not a problem. It being Sunday we met at just after 9 and by 10.20 the management decided that rather than ask us if we could leave they would engage their cleaner to vacuum the room! Overall we were embarrassed to have recommended this inn to our friends on the basis of the description of the hostelry and the subsequent attitude of the landlord.

We were made most welcome by the landlady and staff. Service was excellent, dinner and breakfast excellent. Our room was charming and characterful, all we could wish for during our overnight stay. Our bed was king size and superbly comfortable. Nothing

This place is managed by extremely nice people and offers clean and comfortable rooms. Ones you have checked in you should enjoy the ales and food in the pub: only one word: perfect. The place is 8miles from Oxford thus perfect for a city trip as well as for nice long walk along the river Thames.

The very warm and welcoming atmosphere from everyone. Great conversation whilst relaxing in the bar The room was very nice but needs a bit of work on the decorating and furniture layout. The power shower was great but the screen was inadequate and dirty.

Genuinely friendly and helpful hosts. Really good food. Very atmospheric inn, with extremely comfortable rooms. Not a criticism - they need time off - but the pub was shut Sunday evening. In an ideal world, I would have liked to eat in then as well. Other pub I tried not half as good!

Lovely friendly staff, clean rooms and great food. Quiet location and beautiful old building. Wonderful simple breakfast, but no fresh fruit or yoghurt for those who don't want cereal No shampoo in our bedroom. We had to go to collect a hair drier from a downstairs cupboard. No fresh fruit at breakfast.

Good central location, beers and bar good, lovely old building - but original features have been removed or hidden by tacky decor on the inside. Very odd staff -small, dusty room - stuffy and overheated, confused decor, bathroom tired and a bit grubby in the corners. The website depicts a much nicer environment - so prepare for disppointment!

Although a comfortable bed and a clean room it was very small. It was opposite the church which chimed delightfully every quarter hour throughout the night. The evening meal menu was varied and enjoyable and the breakfast was adequate apart from no butter or spread for the toast. The small size of the room and the church bells.
