We had a warm welcome with tea and home made cake in the guests' sitting room. Breakfast was excellent and the bonus was looking out at red squirrels and a wide variety of birds feeding just outside. We were very well looked after altogether.

Location is fantastic - and there are pheasants, wild birds and red squirrels in the garden. Breakfast was excellent and the Harrises are extremely friendly and courteous.

The location is simply fantastic, right in the wild heart of the South Lakes and near the best route for tackling the Scafell Massif from Eskdale/Hardknott whilst avoiding the hordes that swarm up the mountain from the more accessable startpoints. It's also only a few minutes drive or 20 minute walk from the brilliant atmosphere of The George Inn and it's peerless steak and ale pie (NOT a light-bite!). The proprietors are friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgable about the local area and clearly take great pride in making you feel welcome. You might even spot a red squirrel over the excellent full english breakfast. Very minor point but the signage when approaching from Hardnott/Eskdale Green direction isn't very clear and I only spotted it when almost passed it.

The staff were very friendly. The setting was perfect for a "get away from it all break" with a wildlife (birds and red squirrel) experience that you need to see to believe. It was the perfect location for a Countryside break.

Very friendly owners, who allowed a wide range of breakfasting times. The grounds are fabulous, with a huge number of bird species disporting themselves in front of the breakfast room window, and in the company of one or two red squirrels. My room was generously proportioned and charmingly decorated.

Forest How Guest House was the perfect country stay. It was the perfect location for Scafell Pike only 20 minutes away by car, where we were heading the next morning also the perfect location for other Lake District walks. John & Deb greeted us on arrival like family and made us immediately welcome even though we were running late in the evening after travelling from Fort William & Ben Nevis. They made a special effort to move our breakfast times a bit earlier the next morning to suit our exit times and gave us home made bread and cake for our journey the next morning which we eat on the top of Scafell Pike as planned. There was an open crackling fire in the guest room to greet us and our room bathrooms were fitted out new. It was a truly special place that was a bit quirky but lovely. There was wild life in the gardens with local birds, Red Squirrels and Pheasants that John feed by hand. Also lost sheep biting the heads off his flowers!! We awoke to beautiful views of mountains out the bedroom windows and morning mist and wildlife sounds with the early morning Sun. Deb & John were a truly special couple and we will definitely return and tell our friends and family to do the same if we/they need to be in this vicinity again. Thanks to John and Deb a very special stay Perfect!!

Very good value for money. Friendly and helpful owners able to offer local advice. Excellent breakfast with beautiful garden and wildlife. Location excellent with easy acces to beautiful landscapes, walking and outdoor activities in one of the slightly more neglected area of the Lakes.

Very friendly. Coffee and homemade cake on arrival. Very helpful with weather forecast....even gave us the printout. Lovely breakfast with views of red squirrels lots of species of birds. Will definitely use again when in the area.. En suite was good. Bedding was very clean and towels were white and fluffy. A bit dated overall but proprietors had only been there just over a year and have already made significant changes.

John and Deb were great hosts - nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast (all local ingredients, home-made bread) was fantastic, as was the accompanying view of the many birds feeding just outside the window. It's a great localtion, with lovely views - we'll be back.

This is a real find in terms of setting and welcome we received. We were greeted with coffee and home made cake, had a lovely room with great views of the fells and as peaceful as you could want. Breakfast choice was excellent and we watched red squirrels and many birds feeding as we enjoyed the relaxed setting. There are direct walks from the house to high and low fells and riverside ambles to local pubs. Lastly the proprietors could not have been more friendly and helpful. Outstanding! No fault to find with this one.

Gelegen vlakbij Hardknott pas, Wrynose pas, Wasdale Head en Windermere. Parkeerfaciliteiten. Lastig vond ik de aparte kranen voor heet en koud water op de wastafel (kamer 2), waardoor geen lauw stromend water kon worden verkregen.

Everything! We couldn't have found a better place for a relaxing break. The location is perfect, quiet and secluded with lovely gardens and a bridle path running past the door which was perfect for walking the dog. There was a warm welcome from Deb and John for both us and for Bertie, our dog. Our bed was very comfortable, the tea/coffee tray supplies generous and everything worked perfectly in the ensuite. We couldn't fault our full English breakfast and the very good coffee which made us want to linger in their lovely conservatory from which we could see numerous garden birds and, a special treat, the red squirrels which visit the bird table regularly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this b&b to friends and family, in fact I already have.

It was a random choice that turned out to be magnificent....The owners have clearly made every effort to turn their house into what is really the best guest house I have visited in a long time, both in terms of location (calm, beautiful), warmth of welcome, and the care taken over the breakfasts they provide.
