The hotel is nestled just below Symonds Yat Rock and stands exclusively in grounds of almost 5 acres, overlooking the river. It has terraced gardens of magnolia trees and a well established wisteria.

Location, comfort of bed
No real choice of breakfast, no useable shower, no hot water one evening. Furniture looking tatty.
Great location and views over the valley. Breakfast included fruit compote which was delicious. Symonds Yat is not the easiest place to park but Forest View Guest House has a large garden out the front with lots of parking space. The WiFi connection was good and we were easily able to stream using iPlayer.
The proprietors seem to have a "type" of guest they prefer at their Guest House. Presumably they are the "type" of guests who don't mind feeling that they are an unwelcome distraction. Every other public place we visited in Symonds Yat provided the sort of welcome that makes us want to return for more, Forest View made me wonder why people who obviously have so little interest in the idea of customer service, would choose an industry that deals with the public. Having said that if you don't mind (or even quite like) the idea of not engaging in any conversation that doesn't involve paying your bill before you have stayed, then you will find Forest View, very comfortable and very clean with a very average breakfast.
Quiet, fresh air, beatiful view
Location - friendly staff - nice breakfast.
No shower in our "luxury" bathroom. Seven wardrobes and many many cupboards in the bedroom which made a karge room feel small. Broken door handles on wardrobes and light bulbs not replaced. Having to book a time for breakfast instead of just coming down when you were ready.
A very Comfortable room with an excellent view. Excellent Breakfast catering for vegetarians Easy Parking
Me and my boyfriend stayed here for one night, was a beautiful location also beautiful views from our room would definitely recommend lots to do and see in the area too, staff were lovely and such a good night's sleep
There was nothing we didn't like
We loved the location and the friendly staff.
Not the best location for quality food, the tea house was lovely but Royal Lodge was not up to the standard expected.
Enjoyed having a room with a view as well as good choice of breakfast. Near restaurants and walking trails. Friendly welcome on arrival.
Would have preferred some fresh fruit options at breakfast. Unfortunately bed mattress was too firm but okay for a one night stay.
Location of guest house was perfect
Place looking tired and in need of a bit of tlc Breakfast was cooked early and kept warm for far too long, have to say got to be up there with the worst had
The owner and staff couldn't do enough for us .The garden was well maintained and the view from our window was second to none. Well done FVGH
Great view Delicious breakfast Great location
Went there for relaxing time but staff did not make us feel relaxed. Had to give exact time of breakfast e.g. 9.15 the day before and when we got down a few mins after that were told we were late. On the last day we weren't asked for a time so went at same time as day before but just before we were about to leave the room someone knocked on the door and shouted "breakfast" was quite rude and made me feel unrelaxed!
Very nice location... Would vist the area again, but not this establishment.... Noting check in was until 19.30, made ample allowances for travelling time to arrive in time, lo & behold traffic/road works incurred 2 hour delays - phoned to say would be later than anticipated, 30 mins, friendly lady answered, but loud voice in background not so friendly - not too keen on that, so was a bit off put before arriving.
Previous guests empty toiletries and used disposable razor left on shower box.... Not very nice! Someone's else's hair in sink..... Whilst taking a quick stroll to the river bank having checked out but still within check out time, being hailed and 'told' its going to be busy later so can't leave my car parked - jumping the gun a bit.... If your in the service industry, being customer friendly is surely a must....
This hotel has a fabulous location which is stunning. The view of the river and mountains that surround it are very memorable and the little hamlet around the hotel is interesting to explore.
This hotel seems to be all about the location. I didn't feel welcomed or that the owner was that friendly. The service on arrival was business like and not at all 'warm'. Despite trying, I had the briefest of conversations at breakfast but Gill (I presume) seemed happy to chat away to the other guests (couples) that were in the dining room. Strange, disappointing and not what I would expect from a family run hotel. Business travellers should note that the earliest I could get breakfast was 8:15am.
Location, service, friendly people, food ... Just perfect. And than the view, never had a better then that (room 2).
Mattress much to soft
view from room was fantastic. salmon and scrambled egg breakfast was very good
bed was to hard. dust/cobwebs on lampshades
We liked the view from the room. Bottle of water left in our room every day. Room was well appointed . Quiet and peaceful.
Limited parking. No printed menu, it was on a chalk board in the hall which meant we were unsure of what we could have. Since we were there for 3 nights we may have had different things for example eggs benedict or an omelette. Owners didn't ask on departure if everything had been to our satisfaction. T.V. too small No bar service available although there was one.
The location is fabulous. Forest View has patios where you can sit and watch the river go by. Perhaps with a nice bottle of wine from the bar. Breakfast was excellent and served in the dining room overlooking the river. All in all wonderful.
Symonds Yat is very busy at the weekends and getting the car through to the guest house is sometimes a bit slow.
couldn't fault our visit.Glorious views .very clean and comfortable with such friendly staff.Perfect.
Location Stunning views Friendly staff Breakfasts Comfortable beds.
Tired décor. Would have liked a blind on the window.
