Score from 208 reviews Good
Ideally situated in the New Forest, close to the small town of Lyndhurst, this friendly hotel is set back from the road and offers quality accommodation at affordable prices.
Score from 223 reviews Very good
Nestled within beautifully maintained gardens, the South Lawn Hotel is located on the edge of the New Forest National Park, while only a mile from the beach and the Jurassic Coastline of Hampshire.

10-15 minute walk away from village centre
Location was excellent on the centre of the new forest
Hotel was very dated and in desperate need of a refit. Beds worn out. No wifi in rooms. No real lighting in bathroom and several health and safety issues.
Good access for and accommodation of dogs. Brilliant location. Helpful staff.
Bathroom needs updating (tiles). Crack in sink (room 103).
The staff were super friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious and clean. We arrived a bit earlier than the 3pm check in, but as we explained we needed to get ready for a wedding they very kindly found us an available room
The proximity of the hotel to interesting location was ideal. Excellent facilities, especially for dog owners.. Made to feel very welcome. Lovely food with plenty of choices. Excellent for guests with dietary requirements too.
The fruit salad was a little uninteresting, mostly apple and hard fruits... A little extra variety would have been nice...
Friendly and extremely helpful Staff. Very relaxed atmosphere. Decent Ales. Food excellent. Bedroom spacious, ground floor garden room was especially nice. Would certainly stay again.
Some areas (corridors) a "little tired" in need of TLC, but this was outweighed by the welcome we were given, and quality of room.
large ground floor bay windowed bedroom with views over rear garden. good location in New Forrest
does need a make over, but still clean and comfy. breakfast was ok
Room and facilities were good.
Food was good without being special, but there was a disturbing sense of rush in the Dining Room at Dinner, but calm at Breakfast.
Almost everything, apart from the DIY toaster (see opposite).
The toaster (or bread warmer) was a distinctly ineffective and painfully slow device, and as a result by the time we managed to make ourselves toast (or warmed bread - it never quite got hot enough to do more than give the bread a light tan) our scrambled egg was cool. Most hotels I have been to serve toast along with the breakfast, without requiring guests to make their own. I think this would be a very good innovation for Forest Park Hotel.
Traditional country hotel with friendly staff and fine food.
Leaving to come home and return to work.
I worked there 51years ago
I think it is in need of some tender loving care. Carpet on stairs wearing, there has been leak in my bedroom. Roof looks like in need of repair.
Location In New Forest with large back garden was lovely. Hotel had potential. Room was at the back end of hotel, but it opened on to the garden which was a real bonus.
Staff were disinterested. Breakfast was B grade.
Dining room, Reception friendliness, breakfast, size of room
Bathroom fittings tired and out-dated.
The shower was a dribble. When we complained we were told it was because the plumbing needed updating and was fed by header tanks in the loft. I asked if there were any rooms with power showers and was told no. My sister stayed at the hotel on our second night and had a lovely shower in her room!!!
Food and location were great.
Could do with a spruce up of decor and carpets. Shower temperature and water flow not steady.
Shower is very poor
Hotel room was tired and shabby. Very clean and the view of the garden we asked for. Blonde receptionist who was also our breakfast waitress was very professional and charming but £129 for the room and breakfast was far more than its value for one night. Breakfast was good but lack of value for money means we won't be back
Overpriced, tv too small and on side wall made the picture difficult to see. Room was tatty as was the bathroom.
Friendly, helpful staff. Great garden.Lovely views.
The bar food and staff were great and the location perfect for walking.
The room was definitely a little tired and the hotel is shabby in places but I understand it is being done up an area at a time.
The bedroom should have two chairs, more shelf space in bathroom In bar you have candles why are they not lit?
Bar area needs more attention to make it more welcoming
The location. That's it really.
Service was half hearted. Staff clearly didn't want to be there. There's no way it was worth £119, let alone with no breakfast. The place is clearly going thru a refurb but prices are not seemingly reflective of this
Location Friendly staff Dinner and breakfast was very good.
Water stain on ceiling and wall. Shower water that ran hot then cold constantly. Fixtures were dingy white, old ugly wood and rusty chrome - even the taps in the sink were two different types. The floor in the bathroom was completely uneven and the vinyl flooring over it did not fit. Carpet on the stairs was threadbare on almost every step. The stair hand rails really needed wiping with vinegar and water as they were tacky.
I understand the hotel is due to undergo a refurb soon but in the meantime £109 a night seemed a little steep for a hotel in s pretty tired state. Pros - friendly staff, comfy bed, free wifi Cons - pricey, in full need of refurb with a bathroom that should be borderline condemned. On arrival we were told that the window in our room was broken and so often complimentary breakfast which was a nice touch; however, to find out that if it was not free breakfast for 2 would cost around £25.00 on top of the £109 room price it does seems steep for what else is available in that price range. Walls were thin so could also hear full conversation in room next to us at 1am. Summary - with beautiful surroundings and the right approach to the refurb this could be a very nice hotel. At present the price is too steep for what is on offer. I would consider lowering the room price or offering breakfast with the £109 price tag for reasonable value for money.
Staff friendy.rooms clean and tidy.good breakfast and all diets catered for. I can see that the hotel is in need of investment but at present it is more than good enough foe a short break.
Noisy ceiling extractor fans. Bathrooms need updating and our bed was uncomfortable.
