Boasting an enviable location in Edinburgh city centre, the historic and chic George Hotel is close to Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street Gardens and Holyrood Palace.

In the heart of Edinburgh city centre, the historical Ballantrae is an elegant Georgian hotel offering guest rooms with free Wi-Fi.
Score from 1309 reviews Very good
Friendly reception staff Clean, comfortable room Excellent breakfast at ricks
The location, and plush rooms.
We were unfortunate to have a fire alarm incident, just unlucky
Good location in the city center. Confortable room and friendly staff.
The lift to upstairs or downstairs was tiny and slow
the location is great and very close to tourist attraction in the new town. Just on the corner of the George St. and a few steps away Princes St. At night, you have lots of choice to do it, you can drink a cocktail or go to traditional pub. I strongly advise to young travellers
cleanliness, comfort and style of room and great location,
When I checked in I was told breakfast was served in Rick's restaurant across the road from the hotel...couldn't fault it...was absolutely lovely..would definitely recommend it.
a lovely hotel, staff very pleasant, ideal location when in Edinburgh
Very convenient location and a comfortable and clean facility. Quite simple and functional.
No toiletries in bathroom though available at a price from reception. Wouldn't think of this as a four star hotel - covers essential but not extravagant.
Location is good if you want to party hard:)
Location and comfort both top class.
Value Location Comfort
No bad experience but would like a bar in the hotel.
Proximity to Waverly Station, Princess St. & George St. Quiet location and being open 24 hrs per day was fantastic. Very handy to some nice bars and restaurants.
Nothing to complain about
Noice between room.
Location was excellent
loved the price! loved the rooms and hotel itself and loved location and proximity to princes street and central edinburgh
Traffic is verrrrry noisy and due to hotel having old fashioned non double glazing it was super noisy very late into the night. Also 3 bars/clubs in very close proximity and was very loud also. shame. as hotel is pretty great!
The situation of the hotel is excellent. The room was very comfortable and clean. The price was very reasonable.
The bedding was unusual - unattractive, rough blankets, and not enough of them. There was a constant hum (in room 108) from a generator or something similar which meant ear plugs were required in order to sleep. The bath towel was the smallest bath towel I have ever seen.
Great value for money, central location, close walking proximity to all tourist attractions, Royal Mile, shops, restaurants..
Breakfast should have been provided complimentary with the reservation (for the price paid other similar hotels do provide a complimentary breakfast).
Nice looking room & lovely bathroom
The blankets on the bed very rough & uncomfortable
- Fantastic location, easy walk to food, bars, transport and activities. Safe area. - Clean - Friendly and helpful staff - Reliable and fast wifi - Plenty of free TV channels - Well priced
- The restaurant next door gives a discount for guests, but no integrated restaurant or room service. - Decor a bit dated - Room description of double/triple made me wonder whether it was hostel style, but it's not - it's definitely hotel style.
Location perfect, Rooms nice and clean, reception very nice and helpful. All would have been a nice trip if ...
... if the management would have made the decision to let the heating on during the day in JANUARY. But since the heating went ON at 9.30pm and went off at latest 7am I was sleeping in my down jacket :( In the next morning I decided to check out and warm up in a cafe before heading home - instead of relaxing in the hotel.
Location, rooms etc
Breakfast good, but outside hotel
Fridge really handy. Location excellent and staff helpful. Excellent value for money.
Bed a bit uncomfortable. Room a bit chilly even with the heating on and shower temp a bit hit and miss in the evening
Central location, nice clean rooms.
Absolute nightmare to get parked, there is NO parking anywhere close by, traffic wardens watching you as soon as you pull up. You are encouraged to visit Edinburgh, then traffic wardens hound you as soon as you arrive. I have to say this is EVERYWHERE in the city, not just here.
Excellent value for money, especially considering the city centre location of the hotel. Would happily stay again
The room was spacious and clean. Loved the location and the breakfast across the street was EXCELLENT - worth the money!!!
Parking was quite far away and expensive.
