Score from 1504 reviews Very good 8.4/10
We were close to the castle and royal mile, as well as restaurants and shopping.
Construction next door interfered with the sleep of four members of our family. (We had three rooms.)
big room perfect location free wifi clean
The lift was broken No restaurant on the same hotel, you have to go out
Just the location.
The breakfast, the 4th bed was small, old blanquettes, 3 days without lift. Expensive for a kind hotel. To sleep at night noise from the street no air conditioner for summer time.
Inflated tattoo prices
The hotel is well equipped for a comfortable stay -- roomy, uncomplicated but pleasing decor, and staff who are available 24/7. The ample desk space and wi-fi were important to me. I personally liked the absence of a dining room -- multiple dining options were within easy walking distance and, to my mind, that is more fun than being stuck in the one place.
A few more luxuries -- shampoo would have been nice -- but I swiftly found a store where I could equip myself with these. I also would have liked a super-comfortable sitting chair -- the one they had was not bad but one couldn't lean back and enjoy a protracted read as I like to do.

Helpfulness of staff; High state of cleanliness; quiet area; all basic necessities supplied; within walking ditance of main city shopping and business area; railway, bus , tramcar and taxi forms of transport all very near at hand; pleasant frontage onto street.
Fresh decor, comfortable beds, perfect location for our needs - central but not noisy, even during the Festival. Polite and efficient staff.
Bath towels a bit mean, it's very much no frills - no toiletries provided in the bathroom - which is a bit mean at the price we were paying.
The location was most convenient, just off the beaten path, so it was quiet, but within easy walking distance to shopping, museums and other points of interest. Never had a worry about safety and security. Staff was very helpful, answering all our questions about orientation and planning.
Though there was a slight breeze through the window, some air-conditioning or perhaps a ceiling fan would have made the afternoons more comfortable.
Location was good. The breakfast at Ricks adjacent to the hotel was good. Plenty of food to be had. The hotel staff were obliging.
The carpets in both rooms we had were not very clean, even though the rooms have supposedly had a recent revamp. Unable to have the window open due to cooking smells wafting in.
small room lack of amenities, ie. no ice, no drinks on site no shampoo and conditioner no drawer space
We really liked the location and the walks into Edinburgh, lovely area in Bruntsfield and Morningside with interesting local and individual shops.
Location good. Bedrooms good. Bathrooms excellent. Breakfast at Ricks was excellent.
There is nowhere to sit and chat or have a drink/coffee. Just a dark alcove with sofas - this is not 4star! Certainly no frills. Soap/shampoo dispenser in shower, again, this is not 4star.
Good location, priced reasonably
Very noisy--noisy doors and large gap underneath room door that allowed acoustic energy from hallway and lobby area to enter room
Location...in a quiet area yet within walking distance of train station and pretty much everything I want to see and do Nice breakfast included at Rick's Cafe across the street Comfortable rooms
Good location! close to all the amenities
The carpet was a bit dirty, it needs to be cleaned properly or they must put something new. The flow is also uneven... mind you its an old hotel
Room and bathroom
The sealing of the room is too tight. It's good in winter but it will be too hot in summer
The staff at this hotel were very helpful, printed off boarding passes, and booked a taxi! Very welcoming! The house keeper went and got scissors to cut a label off my dress no questions asked! Would definetly stay at this hotel again. The location is brilliant!
It was quite expensive compared To their normal rate but this was due to the festival being on
The beds are confortable and they checked us in at 10, luggage room, nice TV, coffea, tea facilities, nice toileteries, elevator, etc.
For 180 £ per night, this hotel didn t have instrument to clean the toilet, the lamps did not give good light, the windows cannot be opened properly, the bar/fridge was empty, no slippers, as they mentioned in the room description when we booked it, and not the best blankets. It is a normal hotel, I didn't understand why it costs 180 £ per night, and not 80, for example. What's so special about it?
Location and convenient. On George Street.
Location very good
Slightly pricey rates for what facilities there are
The position and the staff. The room was a single with a double bed. Perfect.
