Score from 47 reviews Very good
Room was cold. Bathroom smelled. Spa was small, bit dingy, no Jacuzzi, claimed an indoor/outdoor pool. It was October so outdoor pool was not useable and there was not really any indoor pool to speak of. Unrequested and very unwelcome 6am wake up call. Not good value for money
Over priced for what you get. Several items in room not working, some of the pool spa not working. Bar prices extortionate ! The drinks were far cheaper and better in the Michelin star restaurant we went too.
Food, presantation was out of this world - loved it ! The place in general ,Staff ,everything!!we will be back Soon !
The staleMop smell just at the entrance !
Charming staff Lovely grounds I know from previous visits that the spa is lovely
No tea / coffee making facilities in the room No mini bar in the room No hairdryer in the room (very old fashioned, wall mounted dryer that really doesn't dry Noisy in the mornings as the cleaners start work
Comfortable bed. Decent sausages at breakfast
We stayed here for one night. We booked a Junior suite; however it seemed to be an average-sized room with a couple of armchairs, and a corridor to the strangely-shaped bathroom. The bathroom was dominated by a huge bath, which I suspect is never used. It would have been more appropriate to have improved the shower, since it isn't very big, one of the doors isn't fixed at the bottom and the shower head is almost impossible to move around and covered in limescale. There obviously used to be 2 basins; however one has been removed and the hole covered by a piece of laminated board which is too large and hangs over the edge of the unit. The toilet could do with some serious attention from bleach and limescale remover. The bed was very comfortable but the pillows were appalling; one of them was so old it had separated into 2 pieces inside its cover. However the first young lady we saw on reception very quickly brought another 2 better pillows to our room. The aircon worked well but started to make a loud humming noise for about 15 seconds at a time at random points during the night. The wallpaper was peeling off in a number of places round the room. However by far the worst was the slippers which were provided. Out of 4 pairs, only one was new and in a plastic wrapper - the other 3 pairs had all been worn. I asked for 2 more pairs and a very pleasant young man turned up with 2 more 'pre-loved' offerings. There is a warning slip given with these, saying that if you take them away there will be a £10 charge - the thought of wearing them at all was disgusting enough, without paying for the privilege of taking them home with you! The spa was tired and in desperate need of updating; the shower area was small with one out of order, and the swimming pool had a ring of dirt and grease round the edge. Luckily we had already booked a different restaurant for dinner and the same lovely receptionist who booked us in, organised a taxi for us.
The 1970s feel to the place was like stepping back in time and reminded me of my youth.
The spa staff appeared stressed , overworked and disinterested in their clients. The spa appeared overbooked, the pool area was crowded and at one stage I had to stand as all the seats and loungers were taken up. My room was shabby; the door chain was broken, there was a hole in the sheet, my mini bar fridge did not work and although I reported this, I had no response. The food was mediocre and very expensive for what it was. I ordered a fish dish that was luke warm. The vegetables tasted like school dinners and had that feel of having been boiled in advance and plunged in hot water before serving. Overall not a good experience and I wish I had gone elsewhere.
We were upgraded to the Royal Ascot Suite which was a lovely gesture, the staff were very accommodating. Our room was quiet, extremely spacious with a balcony & modern bathroom. The spa facilities were also to a high standard.
The hotel decor was a little dated and could do with some renovation to warrant the 4 star status.
The setting and facilities.
Lack of staff - seemed to be rushed off their feet but always polite. Would have been nice to have tea making facilities in the bedroom.
do not change a thing
Very friendly and helpful staff
The venue/ambience /staff and food mostly excellent but fell down badly on Sunday morning with no-one in attendance at breakfast until after we finished when toast appeared! Having already given up on another very good hotel in the area because of the pre-cooked, dried-up breakfast it was a shame to see fredricks also produce this on Sat/Sun.
no tea facilities in the room and the mini-bar looked as if it had been stolen by a none-too careful burgler-!
The fact they did not charge for the meal after the disastrous service we had. At least they accepted our complaints and dealt with it fairly.
A poorly run establishment
good sized rooms Friendly staff
no coffee facilities in room
The Restaurant and Bar area was excellent! All members of staff were professional and attentative. The food was of good quality too. The Spa area is relaxing but needs immediate attention to cleanliness and tidiness. It is becoming very run down. (Dirty swimming pool - tide marks, lack of fresh towels, wet and unkept loungers) The windows were filthy! I have used the spa on many occasions and this time standards have certainly slipped!
Nothing except receptionist was helpful
No tea/coffee making in room, no bar in room, no hand towels, only one bathrobe with slippers, all in all very poor value for money!!
The room was nice and the Hotel for being so old was nice....Little bit tatty here and some nets curtains were torn which spoilt the appearance when you first arrived.
the staff were so unfriendly and we were there in a large group very happy to spend money, but they showed very little interest and the service was very slow indeed. It may of help if the some of the staff spoke more English!
Environment - green surroundings, garden, excellent food.
Staff. Gardens. Room. Spa facilities
Bar prices were ridiculously expensive. They messed up my rate and informed me that they should have provided breakfast for the price I paid.
The efforts and politeness in moving us to an acceptable room
Our first room was an olde r garret, not in any way equivalent to newer rooms in hotel, it being very cramped with poor facilities
Absolutely great location. Nice breakfasts and indeed small rooms, though it is not a problem if you are not staying in the hotel for along time.
We booked a suite (balmoral) which had a lovely very private outdoor patio. The room and bathroom was spacious with lovely decor. Meals were of a very high standard. Nothing to dislike about this gem of a hotel close to Heathrow Airport. Stayed 2 nights while waiting for our return flight to NZ. Staff were very helpful.
Nice hotel with friendly staff. Room comfortable with plenty of storage and hanging space.
The minibar had been removed from our room but we weren't told or warned. Prosecco by the glass was extortionate at £13 a glass. Buffet breakfast was poor. Food nice but staff overloaded and slow to replenish food so some things were not available. Pastry basket empty for entire time we were in breakfast. Scrambled eggs like rubber. Ordered fried eggs which took 15 mins to arrive.
The service provided by the receptionist was good.
The surliness of the staff, the expensive costs of drinks in the bar and no tea/coffee making facilities. There was even no shower grab rail so I had to hold the shower head! I had to ring for a taxi as the receptionist provided me with the card and told me to ring them! Poor service all round and I will stay in the Holiday Inn on my next visit.
Service rather lacking, basics not in the room. Bottle opener. Had to ask for tea making tray. Some staff were charmless. Hotel rather chintzy.
