The Ocean View House is situated in Ventnor, on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. This B&B offers panoramic sea views, and in room massage treatments.
Score from 91 reviews Wonderful
Very welcoming, even late at night. Relaxed atmosphere and good food. Need to visit IOW regularly to see dad (in a home) and try and book FBH every time.
My other half says a huge tv would be nice!
Fantastic location; friendly and helpful staff; great meals ; wonderful cliff top walks from the doorstep; enjoyed the company of the communal dining in the evenings
Staff was very kind and food was great (value for money)
Lunch was fantastic
Dinner was poor
Very good food, friendly, helpful staff, lovely ambience.
Staff are excellent, Amazing Hotel with stunning view, VERY CLEAN ROOMS :-)
The food and the friendly staff. Good value for money.
Although fabulous views, my husband found the stairs a struggle to our 2nd. floor room.
Tony was great, very helpful. The walks.
The hotel seemed entirely set up to meet the needs of organised groups and had no interest in people travelling independently and hoping to be treated as individuals. When we arrived our names were on a list on a table for all to see and we were expected to tick to say we had arrived - so much for personal reception. Dinner had to be a set three course meal at 7.15 when the large groups using the hotel were eating. The idea that we might want to eat just one or two courses at 8.00 caused bemusement. Breakfast seating was all at large, shared tables. Staff were unfriendly and uninterested. My advice - find a good B&B
Laid back atmosphere, real comfort rather than the appearance of it.
Dinner very early.
Location Room comfort Cuisine Friendly and helpful staff
Cannot fault this gem of a hotel
Our room had a picture postcard vies of the Bay. The room itself was excellent. We particularly liked that you could get extra milk / teabags etc from a dresser on the landing. We had an excellent 3 course dinner in the hotel for £14.95 each. There was a quiz on in the evening for the groups booked in and we were welcomed to join in - good fun.
Everything was great! Nothing not to like!
The ice-cream kiosk ! The staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely views.
The mattresses were a bit springy and the bathroom was damp and smelly. Didn't like eating all at once but that is probably the nature of clientele - not a bit problem.
stunning location; heated pool
sometimes hard to find staff at reception
Staff were friendly and helpful and keen for us to enjoy ourselves. The location is stunning and very peaceful.
The decor is a little old fashioned and wifi erratic.
Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent gardens. Perfect hotel position. Will go back again!
Location, views, quiet, good breakfast, Dandelion cafe, grounds.
Checking in is a bit of a DIY affair. Reception is rarely manned. Eventually we found an envelope addressed to us saying which room we had and the bar man gave us a key. This would be fine if we had been briefed beforehand!
The manager Tony is a star, nothing is too much trouble. And would I stay here again - YES
I you're not a walker, you may not enjoy the communal nature of the dining
Everything about the hotel was perfect. I would certainly go back again.
This hotel is in a fantastic position with great views and a lovely pool. The staff were also helpful.
I enjoyed my stay here, but I'm not sure what this hotel is trying to be. It styles itself as a country house hotel, but it is not. It seems to cater for a lots of groups and has a bit of a hostel feel to it. It desperately needs a decent bar and restaurant area.
Swimming pool and location
Group breakfast tables
Very well located for walks to the Needles and Alum bay Beautiful bay and very isolated Friendly staff
No local restaurants 99% of guests stay for one week on an organized walking holiday so you feel a bit like an outsider
No pets! Loved the location, the availability of towels, beverages on all floors as well as in the rooms. Friendliness and warmth of staff - though we were mistaken for walkers which forms the majority of the clients..the friendliness still showed through.
Rushed breakfast - might be an idea to have a slightly extended time for B&B guests who are not walkers. Tea in pot was cold & had to listen to people at our table complain about long wait, hence the 'fair' for value for money
Very helpful friendly staff, very flexible and welcoming, top outdoor heated pool, great coffee and superb breakfast
Slightly stale smell in rooms some dated decor
Walking distance to sea side and city...
Everything was perfect
