Friars Carse Country House Hotel is set in a 45-acre estate including stunning woodland stretching to the banks of the Nith River, with private salmon and trout fishing. The bedrooms have a private bathroom, TV, mini CD player, radio alarm, tea/coffee, hairdryer, telephone and a DVD player. Nice setting and very quiet area for relaxing. Food was good and nicely presented and lounge nice and relaxing after dinner with a lovely open log fire. Bedroom was comfortable and excellent choice for breakfast, good value for the price we paid Thought the bathroom could have done with some upgrading as shower was a mixer from the bath and was difficult to regulate

We stayed one night and the staff from the receptionist to the domestics were all very pleasant and made us feel very welcomed. The room was large and clean the chairs at the window was comfortable although a bit shabby, bed was comfortable and crisp launderyed bed linen. Bathroom was very clean, only problem we had the mixer unit for shower a bit tempremental.Dinner menu was varied and had something for every t aste, waiter did a great job serving and nothing a bother.Breakfast was help your self from the cold table or the hot food trolley, staff kept hot trolley topped up well and no one as we could see went wth out.Lovely place to relax with great staff.

The Dinner was very limited and the service was poor. The breakfast was the weakest of all those we experienced on our 2 week visit to Scotland (5 other hotels/B & B's), we were used to personnelly cooked breakfast, with a wider choice.

Dramatic setting and building with long, well-documented history at a sensible price - a chance for everyone to imagine they are "The Laird" for a night or two. Staff seem to have a personal pride in maintaining a very high standard of service, and haggis with breakfast was a treat especially relished by my guest from Belarus! Very little not to like, but some of the plumbing showed its age. The heating was oppressively high and difficult to get to a tolerable level, only after opening the window for several hours and turning the radiator down as far as possible.

Fantastic location, excellent walks around the grounds, countryside and along the riverbank, where fishing is also available. Within easy travelling distance to the tourist towns and attractions on Scottish borders also easy travel to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Staff very friendly, polite and attentive. Evening meal and breakfast a bit disapointing. 3 course evening meal quite pricey and breakfast fully buffet style self service with hot food left on heated trolley.

The traditional Country House Hotel with the big log fire in beautiful grounds, big river and stunning countryside. Everybody was most welcoming and worked hard. The view from the bedroom window overlooking the river was lovely The bathroom needed to be updated ie The shower over the bath was pretty basic, either too hot/ too cold you had to juggle for along time before you could get the right mix and the loo seat needed some attention, .All a bit old fashioned but beautifully clean.

The staff were very kind and helpful and we were all very comfortable (more than 70 guests at my sister-in-law's 70th birthday party. The marquee was very well equiped, the band was excellent and all the catering staff were very professional, attentive and the food was excellent. A small party stayed in the hotel. The hotel is obviously a 'work in progress' and some of the rooms, although very comfortable, were in need of a lick of paint. The facilities match the best country house hotels, and we like the 'this is how it was' ambiance. It was obvious from the leaflet about the history of the house, that it had been well looked after for hundreds of years and, as we were already aware that a priory (probably a 'lodging house' on a pilgrim route), had been the first building on the site, we felt very much at home as we had travelled from Cupar in Fife, where there is evidence of a similar 'station', and which now is Cupar Old Parish Church.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our weekend break. The decor in the hotel is a touch shabby but then again, they don't charge a lot per room per night and we weren;t expecting the Ritz so it's really excellent value for money. The breakfast is really good too. The grounds are lovely to walk around and the hotel staff are really friendly and nothing was too much trouble for the slightly bumbling breakfast waiter. We even spotted a ghost in the middle of our first night at the hotel! The shower was pretty poor and was more of a trickle than a nice powerful jet. This also meant that it took an hour to fill the bath up by which time it was cold. Apart from that, we couldn't fault it for the money we paid.

This is a delightful building with magnificent public rooms and comfortable bedrooms. The setting in a large wooded park with river and fishing rights is beautiful. The staff could not have been more cheerful and helpful. Generally it exceeded my expectation of a 3 star hotel.

Our room was in need of some updating. One of the wooden windows was badly in need of repair to ensure that the sash stayed in the proper place. I did report it. The window needed painting. I think there could be said to be a safety aspect given the notice about not leaning out of the window. It lowered the standard of the room. I think the room did not meet the standards of a tree star hotel.. In every other respect we much enjoyed our stay and will go back.
