Nice setting and very quiet area for relaxing. Food was good and nicely presented and lounge nice and relaxing after dinner with a lovely open log fire. Bedroom was comfortable and excellent choice for breakfast, good value for the price we paid Thought the bathroom could have done with some upgrading as shower was a mixer from the bath and was difficult to regulate

So much beauty blinds anything less. Wide staircase, wooden panelling, fine local fare, walks along the riverbank, birdsong, riversong, peace, tranquility, and sofas to relax in by the log fire, Steady, reliable, friendly quality all round. A little bit of heaven!

A dream location for a relaxing stay with beautiful countryside and pleasant walks along the river. The food and service are to be commended and the choice of local produce was excellent. I will certainly stay here again and recommend this hotel to all.

friendly staff and we had a very relaxing time. The period features were lovely and very atmospheric. Great experience and would stay there again. The room got a wee bit cold during the night but apart from that it was fine.

The location was very good, also nice riverside walks. Also very nice lounge area. Breakfast was good. The food was the worst I have had in a Country house Hotel, very poor. Also the Chef swearing on his mobile phone next to customers. Had to pay £40 for an upgrade as the first room offered was terrible.

Located in lovely garden and in very quiet location. Building interesting and lots of character. Rooms comfortable. Power failure from approx 1900hrs - no hot water, no lights, no heating in rooms and snow feet deep outside. While power failure not the hotels fault - the fact that they didn't have some small gas heaters and stoves for hot water for cups of tea/coffee was an issue. We went out for dinner and when we returned the lounge with the open fire was the only warm room in the hotel. While drinks were 'on the house' and some clients enjoyed this a hot drink would have been preferable. A cold breakfast was offered (included in our tariff) we left early to eat somewhere warm.

As a couple in our early 40's we chose to stay for the weekend for valentines and what a perfect venue. The location and grounds were fantastic. The staff were all friendly and as I have read on other reviews nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was fabulous and the breakfast buffet was never ending! delicious! The grand fireplace ensured a warm and cosy atmosphere no matter what time of the day or night it was.The room was a good size and clean and we would definately stay again. Cant really say we didnt like anything but if we had to pick one thing it would be that the decor was in need of a bit of a facelift.

Setting was stunning, our dog was allowed and not just tolerated. Rooms downstairs were lovely and the views were fantastic. Great breakfast. Would go back. It was noisy overnight - other peoples fans running, corridor lights coming on. We couldn't shower because the temperature wouldn't adjust, but there was a bath so that was fine.

The location was great, and the staff could not do enough for us. We had stayed at the classic hotel in The Lakes before - The Waterhead, and it was also fantastic so thought we'd try another. We will definitely stay again.

Location My wife and I were very disappointed with our stay it was the first day of our honeymoon and we chose friars carse as our treat as it was the most expensive hotel we stayed in during our week long honeymoon. At a castle you expect four poster beds not two single beds shoved together so that there is a ridge down the middle of the bed, the evening meal was a 3 course menu when my wife said she didnt really like that much on the menu the waitress just shrugged you would have thought at the prices being charged some alternative could have been offered they werent even busy. The hotel room was dirty hairs in the bath, cobwebs dust the least we expected was a clean room as the first night as our honeymoon we were disappointed my wife has a disabled daughter and this was her first break in 15yrs not a good start really

Lovely setting. My daughter and I enjoyed our stay. Nice breakfast Booked twin room but the bed had been made up into a double. Room was in need of up dating- we found the window wouldn't stay open and the shower was a bit poor.

This is a delightful building with magnificent public rooms and comfortable bedrooms. The setting in a large wooded park with river and fishing rights is beautiful. The staff could not have been more cheerful and helpful. Generally it exceeded my expectation of a 3 star hotel.

We stayed one night and the staff from the receptionist to the domestics were all very pleasant and made us feel very welcomed. The room was large and clean the chairs at the window was comfortable although a bit shabby, bed was comfortable and crisp launderyed bed linen. Bathroom was very clean, only problem we had the mixer unit for shower a bit tempremental.Dinner menu was varied and had something for every t aste, waiter did a great job serving and nothing a bother.Breakfast was help your self from the cold table or the hot food trolley, staff kept hot trolley topped up well and no one as we could see went wth out.Lovely place to relax with great staff.

Our room was in need of some updating. One of the wooden windows was badly in need of repair to ensure that the sash stayed in the proper place. I did report it. The window needed painting. I think there could be said to be a safety aspect given the notice about not leaning out of the window. It lowered the standard of the room. I think the room did not meet the standards of a tree star hotel.. In every other respect we much enjoyed our stay and will go back.

Fantastic location, excellent walks around the grounds, countryside and along the riverbank, where fishing is also available. Within easy travelling distance to the tourist towns and attractions on Scottish borders also easy travel to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Staff very friendly, polite and attentive. Evening meal and breakfast a bit disapointing. 3 course evening meal quite pricey and breakfast fully buffet style self service with hot food left on heated trolley.

“Everthing...Both my husband and I were very pleased with our stay . We thought your staff were just wonderful. especially the breakfast waitress, and Chef, who came out to speak to us. Having had 40 years Hotel experience I notice more than most guests, but still say you are fortunate to have such staff. Best Wishes, Eileen and John McGillivray.” Eileen, Castle Kennedy, Wigtownshire. |
